Eight people, including five journalists, are missing after a speedboat lost contact while heading toward Anak Krakatau in Indonesia’s Sunda Strait to cover the volcano’s eruption. Indonesian rescuers launched a search after communications were lost on Monday evening, September 7.
The search is being hampered by difficult sea conditions and ongoing volcanic activity. Anak Krakatau has continued to erupt intermittently after a major eruption over the weekend, while authorities maintain the volcano at Alert Level III, Indonesia’s second-highest alert level.
