An isolated polar scientific research station tasked with managing the entry of researchers and glacial exploration rovers to prevent blizzard infiltration.
In freezing temperatures of -50°C, researchers wear ultra-thick extreme-cold gloves that render any touchscreen or physical button completely unusable. This building acts as the base's main airlock. A traffic light system regulates outdoor approaches during the storm. The motorized door opens to welcome the team while activating a virtual warm-air curtain.
Returning from their missions, researchers and exploration rovers wear pressurized suits and thermal gloves so bulky that operating a touchscreen, typing a numeric code, or grabbing a conventional handle is impossible. Worse yet, forcing a standard airlock open would cause a massive influx of snow and a destructive thermal shock to the laboratory. The buttons remain completely invisible beneath the snowdrifts.
In polar environments, satellite internet connections frequently drop during storms. The Arduino Uno Q locally processes external movements (via Edge Impulse). The system does not rely on the cloud, ensuring it can save lives even in the dead of a severe storm.
If a researcher in distress performs a prolonged emergency gesture, the system triggers an acoustic signal to guide rescue teams or fellow crew members safely through the storm.
