00:01Ladies and gentlemen, the Secretary of War, the Honorable Pete Hegstaff.
00:12Well, President Trump, First Lady, fellow cabinet secretaries, Chairman Cain, Secretary Rice,
00:21senior Pentagon leaders, uniform and civilian, many of which were here on that day, and those
00:28heroes of 9-11. To those who were here, to those who lost loved ones, and to those who came
00:36to pay tribute, we welcome you, and we never forget. At this very hour, a quarter century
00:45ago, Islamic terrorists murdered 184 Americans right here at the Pentagon. Their co-conspirators
00:53had already crashed two planes into two towers in New York. More conspirators murdered innocent
00:59Americans aboard an airplane that crashed in Shanksville. But on that flight, Flight 93,
01:06Americans fought back, saving this very capital, the first American counterattack of the war.
01:15All told, Islamist terrorists murdered nearly 3,000 of our fellow Americans that day, 25 years
01:22ago. It's hard to even imagine. These dastardly and cowardly attacks changed America in ways that
01:31even the sound of those planes on this day stirs your soul. But it changed America not as the cowards
01:40had hoped. You see, their attacks inspired millions to step forward instead and say, send me. In the book of
01:51Isaiah, Isaiah said, here I am, Lord, send me. And in the days and weeks that followed, millions of Americans
01:57said, here we are, send us. And so we fought foreign wars, a generation of sacrifice, of valor, selfless, and
02:11steadfast.
02:12Even if imperfect, those conflicts were our retribution. And today on this site, we honor the 184
02:23184 murdered at the Pentagon. Warriors and civilians, officers and enlisted moms and dads, brothers and
02:30sisters, whose faces we saw, whose names were red. A flag for each surrounds this venue.
02:39We honor the survivors. We honor the first responders who ran toward the flames, heroic firefighters,
02:45police officers, and EMTs, pulling out the wounded and the fallen out of the rubble and the toxic smoke.
02:53Warriors and civilians alike, they stared death in the eye and they did not blink.
03:02September 11, 2001 was one of the darkest days in American history, but evil did not get the last word.
03:09It never has and it never will. 25 years later, America is stronger than ever before, tall and proud.
03:20You see, many of those wearing the cloth of our nation right now, many do not remember 9-11. Many
03:27were not even born yet.
03:29And that leaves it to us on this day and others like it to pass down that memory to our
03:36kids, to my kids, to yours, to my grandkids, to yours.
03:42You see, on that day, many Americans were ignorant of the Islamist threat that we faced. But 25 years ago
03:48at this very hour, it was no more.
03:51Because history was not over. It's never over. The struggle against evil continued and it continues now.
03:59It will continue until Judgment Day. Our only answer here on Earth is eternal vigilance.
04:08That, indeed, is the price of freedom. There are still enemies who hate us.
04:14Everyday enemies plot to curb our power and kill our citizens, including from Islamic terrorists abroad and at home.
04:22But we are ever vigilant. Especially this place. Especially these people.
04:32Over the past six months, we have laid waste to the world's most prolific state sponsor of terrorism.
04:38Our warriors have fought an Islamic theocracy that has wished us death for nearly half a century that cheered on
04:459-11.
04:47A regime that has sponsored terrorist attacks against Americans for decades, killing thousands, including our comrades in Iraq and Afghanistan.
04:55But they did not factor in this president.
05:00The United States has killed their leaders, destroyed their air force, and their navy rests at the bottom of the
05:06sea.
05:07Their defenses are gone. We're still sending terrorists where they belong to hell.
05:13And tankers to the bottom of the ocean where they belong.
05:16And we're ensuring that Iran will never have a nuclear weapon. The economic pressure tightens every day.
05:26We control the strait. We will finish this fight.
05:32But we also know, as the scripture says, the world will always have war and rumors of war.
05:41And so the fight goes on. And so we raise up a new generation of strong, brave warriors who will
05:48say,
05:49when it matters most, send me. Or as they said on Flight 93, Todd Beamer's famous words, let's roll.
06:04The top 1% of Americans, those that wear the uniform, still keep the watch.
06:11We all sleep in peace because we know they stand ready.
06:16We honor the fallen of that day 25 years ago by living worthy of their legacy today.
06:26And for 250 more years. We have faith in our warriors.
06:33But we also have faith that there is one who keeps watch over us.
06:38And scripture tells us that the Lord is our fortress and our shield.
06:43The Lord trains our arms for war and our hands for battle.
06:49Strengthened by faith in Almighty God, we will continue to defeat our enemies and protect this republic,
06:57just as the heroes and the warriors of 9-11 did.
07:02Because in this nation, in God we trust.
07:06In this land, in this place, on that day, and still today.
07:14And amen.

08:26and a lonely field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
08:34In 25 years, a generation has passed since the terror attacks of September 11th, 2001.
08:44Yet time has not dimmed the honor of that day when our country came face to face with true evil.
08:55At 8.20 a.m. on a cloudless Tuesday morning, a beautiful day it was.
09:04American Airlines Flight 77 took off 25 miles from here, bound for Los Angeles.
09:13On board were three 11-year-old students heading on a cross-country field trip.
09:20A father and a mother with their two young daughters, bound for international adventure,
09:27and a flight attendant whose mind was elsewhere. She had just learned that
09:34she was expecting her first child and was so excited to tell her mom and dad.
09:41Here at the Pentagon and A.B. Harriman had just gotten off the phone with his 10-year-old son.
09:49A secretary was celebrating her 46th birthday. So happy she was. A sergeant major was chatting with some
09:59colleagues.
