00:16Banu-Putin, South African President Tsiripa Mafosa, Iranian President Masoud Pashiskan
00:20and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
00:26Venezuelan acting President José Rodríguez is in Suriname for an official visit aimed
00:30at deepening diplomatic, commercial and cooperation ties between the two nations.
00:39Chile marks three years since the 1973 civil military coup honoring former President Salvador
00:44Allende with commemorative events across Santiago.
00:53Hello, welcome from the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Derezo Studios in Caracas, Venezuela.
00:58We begin with the news.
01:15In India, New Delhi prepares to host the 18th BRICS Summit on September 12 and 13, a meeting
01:20that aims to reinforce the bloc's strategic role in building a multi-power world order.
01:24Our correspondent, Juno Soner, is in the city and has all the information.
01:29Hello from New Delhi, capital of the Republic of India, where the city is preparing itself
01:36for the start of the 18th Summit of Heads of State of the BRICS Alliance under the Presidency
01:44of the Republic of India. The summit will take place over the weekend on the 12th and 13th of September
01:51with the participation of Heads of State and Prime Ministers of the BRICS Alliance,
01:57the extended BRICS Alliance. But it is the climax, the summit of a year-long work.
02:04This is something we have to emphasize. According to the numbers provided by the Indian Presidency,
02:08there have been 350 different ministerial meetings over the year on different issues,
02:16such as economy, finance, but also agriculture, education and even sports were topics
02:22that were discussed over the year. And today, on this Friday, we have the meeting
02:27of the BRICS business forum, where business people and also experts, representatives
02:33of the consulates, diplomatic personnel, are discussing integration, as well as the women
02:39forum of BRICS, which is convening also today on this Friday, before on Saturday, the summit
02:46starts with the Heads of State coming together. Some of them have already arrived today.
02:52For instance, the Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived today in Delhi on this Friday.
02:58Some of them will arrive tomorrow on Saturday, and then the summit will start officially.
03:08The main issues on the summit will be international economy, the situation of international economy,
03:15the situation around disrupting supply chains, protectionism, which is increasingly applied
03:23by above all the United States, but also some European countries. Also the situation of security
03:29of trade routes, as witnessed in the energy supply, for instance, in the Gulf of Hormuz,
03:36but also in the Black Sea and the Red Sea as well. So these topics will be discussed.
03:41But BRICS has an approach here, which emphasizes the strengthening of multilateralism.
03:48That is, starting with the United Nations, the alliance proposes to stop unilateralism,
03:56to stop unilateral aggressions, and to return to make work the international organizations.
04:02In that context, the Secretary General of the UN, Antonio Guterres, will also be present here
04:09at the summit, together with the heads of states. And of course, in the terms of economy,
04:17another topic will be the South-South integration and providing alternatives to trade payments,
04:26alternatives to the U.S. dollar. There are different ideas that will be discussed on this summit,
04:31but their main idea is to rely more on national currencies or digital currencies and less on the U.S.
04:39dollar.
04:39There was the idea of the BRICS currency, which will maybe again come to the agenda here too,
04:48but that remains to be seen. There are different approaches. And a third thing is South-South integration,
04:55in terms of development and integration, connectivity. And speaking of connectivity,
05:02one of the important issues here will be the relations between India and China,
05:09two neighbors, the big giants of the Asian continent, who will come together here in the context of BRICS summit.
05:18And the BRICS summit may provide a leap for the bilateral relations between these two gigantic countries of the Asian
05:29continent.
05:29That remains to be seen. As I said, the summit will start on Saturday officially,
05:35with the arrival of more heads of state. And we will cover it here from New Delhi for Telesur.
05:43Thank you, Yunus. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Nareta Modi held bilateral talks in New Delhi
05:50ahead of the 18th BRICS summit. The meeting focused on strengthening the long-standing strategic partnership
05:56between Russia and India with trade, energy, defense, technology and investment among the key areas on the agenda.
06:03The leaders also changed views on major international developments, as BRICS members seek to expand cooperation
06:08and strengthen the role in an increasingly multi-poor world. The talks come amid continued Western pressure on Moscow
06:15and growing efforts by BRICS nations to develop independent mechanisms for trade and economic cooperation.
06:22Putin's basis underscores the importance of Russia-India relations as New Delhi prepares to host leaders
06:27from across the expanded BRICS grouping for this weekend's summit.
06:36India expanded its presence on the BRICS TV network following the inclusion of its largest national news agency,
06:43the Press Trust of India. The cooperation agreement, signed on the eve of the 18th BRICS summit in New Delhi,
06:51aims to ensure
06:51the mutual exchange of reliable, real-time content and to disseminate objective information about the bloc's activities
06:59in the cultural, business and economic spheres. The Indian Agency emphasized that this long-term partnership seeks
07:05to bring greater depth and diversity to global news coverage, while TV BRICS emphasized the importance
07:11of continuing to strengthen a shared media space among the bloc's member state nations.
07:36Iran is demanding an end to the Saudi blockade on Yemen, urging return to dialogue and respect for
07:42Yemen's territorial integrity. In a statement issued on Thursday, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
07:47reiterated Tehran's position that Yemen's independence, national sovereignty and territorial integrity must be respected,
07:54and that the illegal and inhumane blockade imposed on the country by Saudi Arabia must end.
08:01The statement further called for the immediate resumption of dialogue on the agreed-upon roadmap, and urged the
08:07implementation of its provisions, adding that Tehran was prepared to offer any good offices to help
08:12advance the process. The Ministry also says security and stability in West Asia and the Red Sea region
08:18could not be achieved without respecting the legitimate rights and dignity of the Yemeni people.

09:06Welcome back.
09:19Welcome back.
09:21Welcome back.
09:42Welcome back.
09:45Welcome back.
09:46Welcome back.
09:48First, I want to thank President Jennifer Simons for the invitation and to be here
09:52very committed to our bilateral agenda.
09:54We will sign important agreements in different areas of cooperation, and I always insist
09:59that this is the path, friendship, cooperation and engagement where both countries and both
10:03peoples can benefit.
10:04So I am happy to be in Suriname with the Venezuelan delegation.
10:11And Venezuela and Suriname share a history of cooperation based on mutual respect.
10:16Let's take a look at the information in the following chart.
10:20Both countries, located in northern South America, have maintained diplomatic relations
10:25for decades, marked by cooperation, mutual respect, and the pursuit of benefits for their peoples.
10:32The most recent meeting between Venezuela and Suriname took place during the official visit
10:37of Surinamese Foreign Minister Melvin Mova to Caracas on May 15 and 16 of this year, where
10:44a roadmap was established to move toward the creation of a joint commission, aimed at finalizing
10:49agreements and cooperation plans in key areas such as fisheries, agriculture, tourism, energy,
10:56and maritime and air transportation.
10:59Likewise, both countries have signed agreements in the areas of energy, trade, transportation,
11:05agriculture, food security, and multilateral cooperation.
11:09The relationship between Suriname and Venezuela is strategic.
11:14Both countries share common interests, including defending their sovereignty, promoting economic
11:20and social development, and strengthening Latin American and Caribbean integration.
11:45In Colombia, residents of the Department of Cali had a vigil on marches to mark one month
11:49since the earthquake that rocked the country.
11:51Hundreds of citizens filled the main avenues in the southern part of the city in a rally
11:55to pay tribute to the 154 victims of the earthquake.
11:58The event included the participation of church leaders, community leaders, and survivors of
12:03the building collapses.
12:04Meanwhile, outreach is growing in temporary shelters where entire families are demanding
12:08permanent housing solutions after weeks of living in precarious conditions.
12:15From day one, there was a strong sense of solidarity.
12:19Many people came out to help, with everyone doing their part, whatever each person could do.
12:25Some prepared food, some helped clear debris, some shared information on social media, and
12:29everyone did whatever they could to help.
12:32And the Guatemalan Public Prosecutor's Office requested the suspension of the charges against authorities
12:37and members of the indigenous community.
12:40It is being considered that their participation in the 2023 protests was protected by the right
12:45to resistance and freedom of expression.
12:47The defense accepted the request, although in question the investigation pointed out that
12:52the charges were based on social media posts.
12:55Nevertheless, the court must decide whether to grant the suspension or to refer the defendants
12:59to a public oral trial.
13:05In Panama, youth organizations and trade unions are rejecting government-backed internship laws
13:11that allow corporations to pay young workers below the minimum wage.
13:14The right-wing administration of José Raúl Molino approved legislation permitting companies
13:20to hire young people aged 18 to 25 for salaries 30 percent below the average minimum wage, while
13:27youth unemployment exceeds 22 percent.
13:30More than double the national average unions and students condemn the policy as legalized
13:34labor precarity designed to benefit business owners under the guise of work experience.
13:48This really does not serve the interests of Panamanian youth.
13:51If we want to create decent jobs and a stable life, believe me, we won't achieve that with this law.
13:57We are in a situation where young people are not entering the workforce at an early age, which creates a
14:02gap.
14:07They want to disguise this internship law, presenting it as a tool that brings flexibility to labor issues,
14:15while in fact it undermines the rights of students who will enter the workforce in the future.

14:56Welcome back. Chile marks 53 years since the 1973 civil military coup
15:01honoring former President Salvador Allende with commemorative events across Santiago.
15:07Commemorations began at the General Cemetery in Mount Solión, where family members, local authorities,
15:12and progressive organizations gathered to pay tribute.
15:15Marches through the historical center reached La Moneda Palace to remember 38 victims killed
15:20or disappeared during the assault on the presidential seat.
15:23Tributes highlighted a gender social legacy, including corporate nationalization, agrarian reform,
15:29and healthcare expansion before his government was overthrown.
15:32Tributes concluded at the Museum of Memory and Human Rights,
15:36honoring more than 40,000 victims of the 17 years dictatorship that followed.
15:48We're going back live to Suriname, Paramibo, the capital wherein the presidential palace
15:52held a bilateral meeting with the president of Suriname, Jennifer Simmons,
16:01a bilateral agreement to strengthen the existing diplomatic relations between both nations,
16:08but also to deepen the existing cooperation agreements and to develop forward the strategic agenda
16:17to continue to improve the benefits for both nations, to reap results,
16:24to have better outcomes of the different fields, as talking education, agriculture, tourism,
16:30transportation, in a way to continue to integrate more the nations
16:34and to continue to develop a stronger link between both nations.
16:40This is all part of the framework of the official working visit that the acting president of the Bolivarian Republic
16:45of Venezuela
16:46is carrying out in the neighboring country of Suriname.
16:50We'll have more updates about this important visit and the outcomes of these bilateral talks in upcoming moments.
16:56But for now, let's continue in the United States, where victims' families gathered in New York
17:02to mark 25 years since September 11 World Trade Center attacks, urging that the grief not be used to justify
17:09military conflict.
17:10Members of Peaceful Tomorrows marched towards Ground Zero,
17:14reaffirming a 25-year mission focused on human rights, non-violence and international accountability.
17:20The anniversary coincides with New York City releasing over 170,000 pages of records regarding toxic air exposure following the
17:27attacks.
17:28City officials noted that the deaths from 9-11 related illnesses have not surpassed the initial casualty count, renewing calls
17:35for long-term health support.
17:43In the United States, protesters gathered in downtown Dallas on the second day of the Republican National Convention
17:48to protest against the Donald Trump administration.
17:51Dozens of people and organizations demonstrated in the surrounding area to express their opposition to the policies of the Donald
17:59Trump administration.
18:00Authorities confirmed the arrest of two protesters, while participants shared the reasons that led them to protest.
18:07The protesters criticized the president and his administration on issues related to immigration, the war in Iran and corruption allegations.
18:14Many called for Trump and the Republican Party to leave Dallas.
18:24And in Spain, the autonomous city of Ceuta has recorded one of these worst nights of incidents affecting migrants,
18:31with several fires reported at different points in the city.
18:33According to sources from the Fire Extinction Service, 42 shacks that migrants had built to spend the night were burnt,
18:40as well as up to eight vehicles and four containers.
18:42The first fire, which broke out around midnight, occurred in the migrant settlement of the Navas del Tarajal
18:48and affected at least 40 tents and shacks that were produced to ashes.
18:52The succession of fires has forced firefighters to deploy for several hours in different areas of the city
18:57in order to respond to the emergencies that have kept both security personnel and numerous residents on alert.
19:02This counts that Ceuta is in the midst of a migrant crisis, which has caused protests and violence across the
19:08city.
19:15And with this information, we have come to the end of this news brief.
