00:14The Wolvesend-born Manchester United boss made his Champions League managerial debut as United began their European campaign with a

00:28Carrick already has Champions League glory on his CV as a United player, having lifted the trophy with Manchester United
00:37in 2008.
00:39Now his path has followed a Newcastle legend, Robson, who guided the Magpies to the competition during the 2000s.
00:49It's another significant milestone in Carrick's growing managerial career.
00:54The manager wanted to get off to a great start in Europe and has said how special it is to
01:02be playing in that competition, this time from the dugout.
01:06Here is what he had to say.
01:10It's a magical competition, you know. It's where we all want to be. When you're out of it, you realise
01:17how special it is. And when you're in it, you want to make the most of it.
01:21I think we've all seen some special, special nights and felt some special things in the competition over the years.
01:29It's where we want to be, it's what we want to get back to and that's, you know, it's the
01:34best competition to challenge yourself and to push against the best.
01:39We're delighted to be here, but we're not here to just enjoy the occasion. We're here to do business and
01:46go as far as we possibly can.
01:49It's challenging yourself against the elite with the best. I've said it before, I think it's over a long, long,
01:56long period of time, this football club has been used to challenging what's the best and being the best.
02:04And it's not something that you can take for granted. It's what it takes to be there and what it
02:08takes to stay there, you know, and we've missed out on it for a number of years and now we're
02:13back.
02:13So I think it means a lot, you know. It's where we want to be every single year and it's
02:20where we should expect to be without being ahead of ourselves.
02:24It's what we have to push for, it's the standards that we want to set. And it's up to us
02:30to be able to do.
02:31I think you made huge steps over the last few months or a year or so to make it and
02:39finish the team really strong to be in this position.
02:42And now it's about what's next and pushing into the next chapter, if you like, the next phase, the next
02:48evolution of the team and the squad.
02:50And this is certainly where we want to be and it's up to us now to make sure we stay.
