26:30I draw the characters here for Skylanders.
26:33I do the enemies, the NPCs, and the Skylander toys.
26:38So a lot of people ask me, how do you come up with these ideas?
26:41Basically, I just draw.
26:43I've been drawing since your age.
26:45I just never stopped.
26:46I just keep drawing.
26:47But sometimes the designers, they come to me and ask me, hey, can you make a character
26:52that does this and this and this?
26:54And I do it too.
26:54We got to see some really cool Skylanders concept art.
26:58It's pretty funny, right?
26:59He's kind of a funny character, but I know.
27:03But he looks more like an NPC or something.
27:06He doesn't look like a very capable character.
27:08Not a character you want to play at least.
27:10So I decided to make him more like adding some wall so he could see it.
27:14And so then we added more rocks and stuff on his arms and all the gems on his back.
27:20Because he's a dumb idea, right?
27:21And then we added orange rocks on his back.

27:55And then we refine and change until we find something that's like perfect.

37:23Why did you name the thing Skylander?
37:27That is a really good question.
37:29I wish I could tell you I was the one who came up with the name.
37:32We were, we knew that the land was called Skylands.
37:37But we were trying to come up with a name for the game.
37:40And you would think that we would have thought of it right away.
37:42A young woman named Donna Wu who was working on the game suggested it.
37:46And we had a whole long list of names that we were going to call it.
37:51And then we, I'd say probably 20 of us got together and said what is our favorite name?
37:57And Skylanders, it's funny now it seems like of course that's the name.
38:03But we were going through all kinds of other crazy names.
38:05But when we finally got to Skylanders everybody nodded and said that's the name of it.
38:09How did Spyro came to Skylander?
38:12That's a good question.
38:13We had, we were asked to make a new Spyro game.
38:18And that sounded fun but then my boss was like,
38:21Hey Paul, it has to be something entirely new.
38:25Completely different from any other hand game.
38:27And then we started thinking about toys.
38:30We had never made toys before.
38:32And we were like, well how can we combine toys in the video games that we make?
38:36And we said, well Spyro is so cute.
38:38I want a toy of Spyro.
38:39What if he had lots and lots of friends?
38:42So Spyro and his friends is what we called it for a long time ago.
38:45And those are all Spyro's friends.
38:50Yeah, those are some of his best friends.
38:53He's probably got a lot of friends.

44:25There was a girl who was part of the Make-A-Wish Foundation who wanted to work, learn how to
44:30design games.
44:31We had her come out and talk about characters with her and, and we worked on a character
44:35with her that actually became Octavius Cloptimus, that Oracle dude.
44:39And then, I worked on a challenge with her, just brainstormed me and her and a designer,
44:43and she was telling me, and we'd come up with the geckos that worked with Capoeira,
44:48she definitely got the whole crazy challenge thing.
44:51That's very cool.
44:51And she even said, she goes, my friends and I sing songs about copy bearers, we love them
44:56as animals.
44:57So, I'm like, really?
