00:00Macklin Celebrini, holy shit.
00:02This kid was playing on the top line for Team Canada at the Olympics.
00:05115 points, that's the most in a single season in Sharks franchise history.
00:10The kid was 19 years old.
00:12The sky's the limit for Macklin Celebrini.
00:14What's up, Belmont? How's it going?
00:24I love you, Wilson.
00:38If you guys skated against each other, it was faster. How would that play out?
00:42I don't think against is the right word to use.
00:44I don't think we could skate. I'm not good enough to skate against Macklin.
00:50I could skate with or alongside Macklin, maybe.
00:54That would be a lot of fun, though.
00:56I would like to show you my shot, though.
00:58I'm really proud of my shot.
01:00I've heard great things, so I really want to see this thing.
01:03I'm telling you, it's nasty.
01:05And my aim's even kind of decent, but it's fast, isn't it?
01:09I got a quick shot.
01:11And that's a wrist shot. That's like a snap shot.
01:13I don't really have a slap shot yet.
01:15Yeah, I mean, that one's harder.
01:17Have you shot on a goalie? Like a proper goalie?
01:20Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:21Like we do shootout lines just to kill time all the time.
01:25And I don't have the stick handle to fake effectively.
01:28Yeah, yeah.
01:28But, you know, I'll get about halfway and I'll just try to rip one up top.
01:31And sometimes it'll work.
01:33Some of the best shooters in the world just do that.
01:35See, I always said that.
01:38And it really depends on the talent of the goalie.
01:40Yeah.
01:40A lot of guys I could just not score on at all.
01:43But you get a guy who's been out there for, you know, 30 minutes while we've all been shooting on
01:46him.
01:48That's my time.
01:48Yeah.
01:51I think we share a common trainer, actually.
01:54Really? Who is it?
01:55Barb.
01:56Yeah.
01:57She's teaching you how to skate?
01:58Uh-huh.
02:00Barb is the, correct me if I'm wrong, she's like the Canadian power skating Olympic coach.
02:04Yeah, yeah, yeah.
02:06She does all the power skating.
02:08Because I can skate so fast, but I can't stop so good.
02:14Dude, I hit the boards, I mean, at least once a day.
02:16Like fall and hit it?
02:17At full speed.
02:18Or do you just like run into it?
02:19No, no, like I'll fall first and then I'll slide into the boards.
02:23Yeah, yeah.
02:23Get Barb on that.
02:23I mean, I can stop on my right pretty good, but I don't even really have the left at all.
02:28Yeah.
02:28And so then sometimes we're shooting and they're like, okay, you got to stop here and for camera, like I
02:31have to do it on the left side.
02:32I'm like, you guys have to move the camera to the other side because I can't do that.
02:37You know what's funny is when we go train with Barb, I always get like a big box of black,
02:41like hot black coffee.
02:42And we're drinking black coffee like on the bench, like between drills and stuff.
02:47She's like, I've never seen this before.
02:49Like you actors are like, why are you drinking hot black coffee?
02:53She was like, you should be drinking water.
02:55It was like, well, hold on.
02:56We're having a coffee to smoke.
02:57Yeah.
02:59How cold is that rink, by the way?
03:00Dude, it's freezing.
03:02The coldest rink maybe in the world.
03:03Oh my God.
03:04I mean, my toes are always numb.
03:05Yeah.
03:06Like completely numb when I'm done skating there.
03:07What's the greatest in-game moment you've ever had?
03:11Wow.
03:11What a question.
03:13You've probably had quite a few.
03:14This isn't really in-game, but I think stepping onto the ice at the Olympics was one of the coolest
03:20things I've ever done.
03:21Holy shit, dude.
03:22Like that was just representing Canada, being at the Olympics, just knowing like how global that is and how big
03:28that tournament is.
03:28I think that was one of the most special moments for me.
03:32I feel that when we're shooting and I got the Garrett Graham jersey on and I step out and it's
03:36a mostly empty rink that will fill in with fans later with like special effects.
03:41Yeah.
03:41I think it's kind of something like that.
03:43Maybe not completely.
03:44Yeah.
03:44Very similar.
03:45Lots of cameras.
03:47What was that like, dude, the Olympics?
03:49I mean, firstly, congratulations.
03:51I mean, you guys put on a great run.
03:52You played really well.
03:53Like, how did it go?
03:54Like, what was that feeling like?
03:55It went by so fast.
03:56It went by so fast.
03:57I mean, Milan's such a great city.
03:59Like, just being in Italy, eating that food is great walking around the city.
04:04But being a part of the Olympic Village was a really cool experience that like I'll never forget.
04:08Like just being around other athletes and you kind of realize the event's way bigger than just your sport.
04:14Like it's every country has people competing in anything that they specialize in.
04:19Yeah.
04:20It's just cool to kind of be a part of like not just your team, but like the country.
04:24Like you're representing your country.
04:26You want to do well for the people at home.
04:27That was super cool.
04:29That was super cool.
04:29That was so sweet, dude.
04:30I got the same question for you.
04:33Like highlight?
04:34Yeah, yeah.
04:34I did a movie with Robert De Niro and I got to do a bunch of scenes with Robert De
04:38Niro.
04:39Wow.
04:39Which was, I mean like I never thought in a million years that I was going to get to like,
04:43that he would be a scene partner of mine.
04:46Yeah.
04:46You know?
04:46And it actually made me a lot better actor too.
04:48Yeah.
04:49Because like I don't know, maybe you feel this way like playing with veterans on your team.
04:53Obviously he's a real vet.
04:54Yeah.
04:54Yeah.
04:55Watching him and then also kind of like breathing life into scenes with him was like really formative for me.
05:01It like really changed the way I viewed like performing.
05:04And I think it just kind of imbued me with a confidence.
05:07Right.
05:08Just having watched him do his thing and being like I can do that.
05:11I see what he's doing there and like I think I could take that.
05:14But yeah, that was a trip.
05:16That must have been so cool.
05:17It was crazy, dude.
05:18I'm a big fan of his as well.
05:19Yeah.
05:19So that's amazing.
05:20Have you ever had to cry on set?
05:22How do you make yourself cry?
05:24Yes.
05:24I've had to cry on set.
05:26The thing about off campus is that like it gets pretty heavy.
05:28Like we deal with some pretty serious themes.
05:30For me, like I don't have a real good hack beyond like the text.
05:35So like if the script is written emotionally enough, it'll move me.
05:40Yeah, yeah, right.
05:41So like I would prepare that scene the same way I would prepare anything else where it's
05:44like as long as you believe in this imagination that you're playing out, like, you know, those things will come.
05:50But yeah, and some people are better at it than others.
05:52Like, you know, there are some actors on this show who are just like, boom.
05:55Yeah, yeah.
05:56I'm not there.
05:57I'm like, I need to like, I need to believe it, you know?
05:59Yeah.
06:00I've always wondered that because like that just seems like a crazy skill to have.
06:04Dude, it's hard because like you're kind of in a room like this except with like four times as many
06:09people.
06:10And then like, you know, the camera's here and they're like pushing in.
06:13You know what I mean?
06:14Like it's pressure, but you get used to that.
06:16And like the more you're like fortunate enough to be on set, the more of those things kind of fall
06:20away.
06:20And usually it's just like if we had a scene and I had to cry, like it's just you and
06:24me.
06:24It's just like listening to what you're saying and responding to you is enough.
06:29That makes a lot of sense.
06:30And you're a great actor.
06:31Well, thanks, brother.
06:33What did you know about each other before today?
06:35Well, I know that you were drafted first overall, which is pretty fucking sick.
06:40Yeah.
06:41What was that like?
06:42Like draft day getting getting called?
06:45It was probably talk about favorite moments like that was up there.
06:51That's really special.
06:52I thought I was going to be super nervous for it.
06:54I thought I was going to kind of be maybe a little panic just because like you kind of walk
06:58up in front of all those people.
06:59And it's just it's just a real like raw moment for you.
07:02But I think the thing that surprised me most was I was very calm.
07:06Like when I got picked, like hugging my family, obviously appreciating everything that they've done for me walking up there.
07:13Yeah.
07:13Yeah.
07:13I think it was just it was more excitement than anything.
07:16And I was surprised that I wasn't more nervous for it.
07:20Yeah.
07:20That's cool.
07:21Yeah.
07:21Yeah.
07:21Sometimes it goes like that.
07:23Like were you nervous like at all?
07:25Like when you woke up in the morning or like the night before?
07:28Or were you just like good to go?
07:29I was nervous because there was a lot of preparation for it.
07:32Yeah.
07:33Mine was at the Sphere too.
07:34Yeah, yeah.
07:35The Las Vegas Sphere, which was one of the coolest venues ever.
07:38Yeah, yeah.
07:38Just looking out like the whole the big screen and everything.
07:41That's such a true.
07:42It was such a such a big production that.
07:44Yeah.
07:45I think it was it was one of the coolest drafts that they've had.
07:47That's dope, dude.
07:48Yeah.
07:49You're pretty good at hockey.
07:50Thanks, man.
07:51All right.
07:51So like the hype is interesting.
07:54You probably started getting attention probably pretty young though.
07:56Mm-hmm.
07:56So you're kind of by now more used to it.
07:59I think hockey is a little different than other sports in that way where there is a tension around you,
08:04but like some of like the top basketball prospects or football prospects like they're
08:11cameras all over.
08:12Right, right.
08:12And every high school game.
08:14Everything like that.
08:15Different degree, yeah.
08:15Yeah, it's just like a different level.
08:17Yeah.
08:17Where hockey it's it's there's a little bit of that for sure especially with like certain
08:21players like I mean like Conor Bedard like had that where he played up here and there's
08:26national attention around him at all times.
08:29Right, right.
08:29I didn't have that very much but I mean it is I think you just I mean probably exactly
08:34like you.
08:35You just kind of get used to it.
08:36Yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:37I mean people are always talking about you and you have.
08:40Yeah.
08:40You can't really pay attention to it because it's.
08:42Yeah.
08:42I mean there's so many opinions out there that don't matter.
08:44Especially in sports too.
08:46You know like you get people critiquing your game.
08:48Yeah.
08:48And then like you know on and off the ice.
08:50It's kind of the same with us too.
08:51You know it's like being an actor you know everybody has something to say about your performance
08:55or like in whatever you're watching.
08:58But then they also have everything to say about you know what's happening in just personal
09:01life too.
09:02Yeah.
09:02How much do you listen to the noise.
09:04I feel like that's a big thing for especially actors and like just the Hollywood world.
09:10Yeah.
09:10Do you feel like people are too invested in your personal life or do you try to keep that
09:18as private as possible.
09:19Yeah.
09:19Do you have a paparazzi following you around.
09:21Yeah.
09:21There's been some paps around.
09:24That's all new and kind of strange.
09:28Look at like if you're a fan of the show and like the thing that I'm so proud of and
09:32like pour my heart and soul into then like that's fucking awesome.
09:36But you know especially the way our show popped you know like there's a there's another
09:42level to fandom these days especially wish with the internet like and sometimes there's a
09:47real venom kind of to the way people put you under microscopes and the way they you know
09:53are you kind of feel constantly observed.
09:56I've been pretty good with handling that because I'm just kind of naturally able to keep things
10:02at an arm's length and you know a lot of people have really nice things to say and a
10:07lot of people have like mean things to say.
10:08And I've always been a believer that like if something somebody says it's really nice
10:12about you makes you feel really good then they also wield the power for when they say
10:17something mean to make you feel bad.
10:20So I try not to swell in either direction.
10:22Right.
10:23Like it's to me it's just all noise.
10:25And you know when I see people out and they come up and they like say you know I love
10:29the
10:30show and like you know this scene was my favorite and like affected me in this way like that's
10:34always really enjoyable.
10:35Doesn't always go that way.
10:36Some people will just run up with a camera in your face and be like can I get a picture
10:40and I'll be like no hello.
10:42You know.
10:43Yeah.
10:45They kind of see you as like a figure.
10:49Yeah.
10:49Not really like an actual person.
10:51I get it too.
10:52But it's like also I've never like ran up to a celebrity and like asked for a picture.
10:58Yeah.
11:00But you know people love the show.
11:01People get excited.
11:02It's like usually they're really sweet.
11:03Yeah.
11:04What about you like when you're out in the wild like I mean same kind of deal.
11:08Yeah.
11:09I mean.
11:09Yeah.
11:09I mean while you were talking I was kind of relating to everything you were saying.
11:13Obviously maybe not as much as you but it's a different kind of feeling when it's like
11:17kids or you know the people like look up to you and like you're like.
11:21Kind of like a role model like I kind of like get that a lot with with younger kids around
11:25the rink.
11:26Yeah.
11:27Usually every summer I skate at private rink but this summer I've been skating at
11:30Scotchmar which is a very public rink.
11:33And every day there's there's kids around watching the practice.
11:37They want their stuff signed.
11:39I know I do.
11:39And pictures and stuff like that.
11:41And for me that's really cool just because I was that kid hanging around.
11:45Yeah.
11:45My dad worked for the Canucks for four years.
11:47So.
11:48I was around some of the professional players and I know how much it meant to me to just
11:52be around them and see how they trained and skated and tried to learn from them.
11:57So sweet.
11:58And how much it meant to me when they took the time to just even just say hi and take
12:03a picture.
12:04Yeah.
12:04Yeah.
12:05That's something that I feel like I'll never really get sick of.
12:09Totally.
12:09That's super cool for me.
12:10But there are some incidents.
12:11Yeah.
12:12It's a little weird.
12:13When we're there and like you see a team of kids up against a glass you're like oh
12:18something exciting is happening.
12:19Yeah.
12:20Yeah.
12:20I'll join them and be like.
12:23Alright.
12:24Have you ever searched your own name?
12:25I have.
12:26Yeah.
12:26I mean.
12:27Right.
12:28Just see what's going on.
12:31I can't say I do it very much but.
12:33Yeah.
12:34I have.
12:35Yeah.
12:35I have done it before.
12:36You can check the temperature you know.
12:37Yeah.
12:37Good or bad.
12:38Right.
12:40I've done it before too.
12:41I did it.
12:41I think like.
12:44Right when we started to do press for this show and you know the noise kind of started
12:48up.
12:48I did it.
12:50And it was mostly good.
12:51And some bad.
12:53And then I haven't done it since.
12:54Yeah.
12:55Because.
12:56I'm really protective of you know.
12:58Making sure that.
12:59The choices I make and the things that I do.
13:01People I surround myself with.
13:02Are things that serve me.
13:03That type of thing doesn't always accomplish that task.
13:05Do you feel like even.
13:08Um.
13:09Inadvertently like.
13:10Seeing stuff about you like.
13:12Do you feel like you're really good at.
13:14Kinda.
13:15Just really like forgetting about.
13:17That opinion.
13:18Yeah.
13:19I think so.
13:19Yeah.
13:20Either way like good or bad.
13:21Yeah.
13:21Yeah.
13:22Yeah.
13:22Yeah.
13:22I mean like.
13:23I've always been a person who.
13:25I stay really present.
13:27And I control what I can control.
13:29Um.
13:29That's like a really important like.
13:31Core personality tenet for me.
13:32Is like control what you can control.
13:34Anything outside of that.
13:35Is like.
13:36You.
13:36It's easier to reconcile.
13:37Because it's not.
13:38Something.
13:39You know.
13:39I can have an impact on.
13:41Um.
13:42So that's kind of.
13:42I've always kind of lived my life that way.
13:44And I think it prepared me pretty well.
13:45For.
13:46The situation.
13:47That.
13:47I'm in now.
13:48Right.
13:49So you signed a new contract lately.
13:50I did.
13:51Yeah.
13:51What's that all about.
13:52What was that for.
13:54Five years.
13:55Eighteen point eight a year.
13:57Ninety four total.
13:58Congratulations.
13:59Thank you very much.
13:59That's really sweet dude.
14:00Thanks a lot.
14:00You deserve it.
14:01It kind of still feels weird like.
14:03Yeah.
14:04Because that's not really.
14:05Why I'm playing or anything like that.
14:07Yeah.
14:07And.
14:08It was a long negotiation.
14:09And trying to just.
14:11Figure out what worked best for.
14:13Obviously our young core.
14:14And how.
14:15Special our group is.
14:16And making sure everyone.
14:18Gets paid.
14:18Yeah.
14:19Where the cap.
14:20Is going.
14:20So.
14:21Kind of figuring out what.
14:22What makes the most sense.
14:23And we landed on that.
14:23Yeah.
14:24Has your spending gone up?
14:25No.
14:26No.
14:26Me neither.
14:31You still got time.
14:32Yeah.
14:32I got a lot of time.
14:35What's like the first big thing.
14:36You want to buy.
14:37Do you know.
14:38Um.
14:40Boat.
14:40House.
14:41Yeah.
14:41Probably a house.
14:42Houseboat.
14:44Houseboat.
14:44Houseboat would be great.
14:46That'd be awesome.
14:48No.
14:48Probably.
14:49Yeah.
14:49Probably a house.
14:50Yeah.
14:50I mean like.
14:50I don't really.
14:52Need anything.
14:53Yeah.
14:53I'm there too.
14:54Honestly.
14:55I still wear.
14:55I still have the same closet clothes.
14:57I probably will still have that.
14:58Same wardrobe for a long time.
15:00I'm right there with you.
15:01I drive my Honda that I bought.
15:02You know.
15:03The first car I bought.
15:03I'll drive that puppy until the wheels fall off.
15:06Um.
15:06Having opportunities.
15:08To.
15:09You know.
15:09Make a good living doing what I love doing.
15:13Uh.
15:13Will.
15:13I'll never take that for granted.
15:15Mm-hmm.
15:15Did you get.
15:16A bump.
15:17From season one to season two.
15:19There's like a.
15:20Yeah.
15:20When you like sign a.
15:21X amount of years.
15:22Mm-hmm.
15:23For a TV show.
15:24There's like a little.
15:24There's one baked in there.
15:25Does that kind of money add pressure?
15:27Is it just kind of another thing?
15:29Like you probably feel.
15:30Pressure anyway.
15:31Mm-hmm.
15:31I mean I think it's cliche but.
15:33I think I have.
15:34Like I have expectations for myself.
15:35Yeah.
15:36With the way I prepare and.
15:38How much confidence and belief I have in myself.
15:40Like.
15:40I mean I want to do as good as anyone else wants me to do.
15:43So.
15:44I think I.
15:45Already put that pressure on myself to perform.
15:48Yeah.
15:48And play it.
15:49The.
15:50The best I can.
15:51Yep.
15:51So I don't think like even.
15:53Those expectations coming into the league.
15:56Um.
15:56First overall pick like just.
15:58All the attention surrounding that and.
16:00Yeah.
16:01I mean obviously going into last year with higher expectations on our team.
16:05And then going into this year with.
16:06Higher expectations on our team.
16:08I think it's just going to keep building but.
16:11I mean.
16:12It doesn't really change what we do on the ice.
16:14Of course.
16:14Like it's not going to change my thought process when I get on the ice.
16:17Yeah.
16:17Yeah.
16:18My decision of what I'm going to do.
16:20Yeah.
16:20Like I think that's all.
16:21That's all a feel thing and.
16:22And something that like.
16:23No matter what else is going on like.
16:25I'm never going to change what I do just because.
16:28Yeah.
16:29Of the outside circumstances.
16:31Because that doesn't affect the game.
16:32Yeah.
16:32You're on the cover of the new Joe.
16:34Yeah.
16:34Yeah.
16:35That's.
16:36Dude.
16:36That is so so sick.
16:38Oh my God.
16:39Dude.
16:40No way.
16:40Because Caleb Williams is on the cover of.
16:42Yeah.
16:42Yeah.
16:43He's the new Madden character.
16:44Man.
16:45It's like.
16:46I'm going to have to be the cover of something.
16:48Yeah.
16:49I'm a magazine bro.
16:52Did you grow up playing a ton of Joe?
16:53Yeah.
16:54Yeah.
16:54With my buddies and my brother and stuff.
16:56Yeah.
16:56Yeah.
16:56Do you still play?
16:58I do.
16:58I do.
16:59It's fun to just like.
17:00If you're tired.
17:01Just like.
17:01Yeah.
17:02Like your buddies.
17:03So like when I.
17:04Was doing press for the.
17:05When the show came out this year.
17:07I threw the first pitch out at a White Sox game.
17:09Oh no way.
17:10And I'm a die hard White Sox fan.
17:12Family's from the south side of Chicago.
17:13That's my fucking baseball team.
17:14Yeah.
17:15Yeah.
17:15That moment was like.
17:17It surprised me how special that was to me.
17:19Um.
17:20Like I had done a lot of really cool things in this month.
17:23That we were promoting this show.
17:24Um.
17:25But that one.
17:26I think maybe because it was close to home.
17:27And it was like really sentimental.
17:29Was just really special to me.
17:31You know.
17:31It may seem silly.
17:33Like you know.
17:34Being on the cover of a video game.
17:35Isn't like.
17:37It.
17:37It's not you know.
17:38Winning the Stanley Cup.
17:39But it's like.
17:39You grew up playing Chell.
17:41Like.
17:41That must feel pretty cool.
17:43Yeah.
17:43No.
17:44That.
17:44Yeah.
17:44I mean it's very.
17:46Like honestly.
17:46It's very similar.
17:47Just cause it's like.
17:48It's something that you've.
17:50Just been around your.
17:51Yeah.
17:51Your whole life.
17:52And then you get to do it.
17:53Yeah.
17:54I've.
17:54I've wanted to throw the first pitch at a baseball game.
17:56That seems so cool.
17:57Definitely can.
17:58Dude.
17:58How was it?
17:59Come do it for the White Sox.
18:00Was it a strike?
18:01Uh.
18:01Yeah.
18:01I played it safe.
18:02Yeah.
18:03I got it over the plate.
18:04Nice.
18:05But then I think it bounced into the.
18:06I hadn't thrown a baseball in a long time.
18:08Yeah.
18:08Yeah.
18:08I wanted to whip one but.
18:09Then I found out later when I went to play catch.
18:11Like a couple weeks later that I'm glad I didn't.
18:13Because I didn't.
18:14Yeah.
18:16But it was totally acceptable.
18:18Yeah.
18:18Yeah.
18:19It was inaccessible first pitch.
18:20That's unreal.
18:21What is something people constantly assume about you that is completely wrong?
18:24I think hockey players in general.
18:26Have a.
18:27Bad.
18:28Rap.
18:29Of not having much personality.
18:31Yeah.
18:32I think.
18:33It just kind of with.
18:34What the culture has always been with hockey.
18:36Yeah.
18:37But I mean.
18:38If you meet.
18:39Some of the guys that play in the NHL.
18:41It's some of the best people you ever meet.
18:43Yeah.
18:43I bet.
18:43I mean obviously when the cameras are off.
18:45And like you're just.
18:46Yeah.
18:46Shooting it with them.
18:47Like.
18:47Just some of the best guys.
18:49To just hang out with.
18:51I feel like that really doesn't get portrayed very well.
18:54Uh huh.
18:54On camera.
18:55People don't really see it.
18:57There's something about like the.
18:58The.
18:59Like the locker room interviews.
19:01Uh huh.
19:01In hockey.
19:02Are very like.
19:04Serious.
19:04Pretty fucking serious.
19:06Yeah.
19:06I think that's maybe like.
19:07Kind of where it comes from.
19:08Yeah.
19:09But like you know.
19:09We have tons of doubles.
19:11We've grown up playing hockey their whole lives.
19:13And they're a bunch of goofballs.
19:14I mean.
19:14Everybody is so much fun.
19:16Yeah.
19:16And those days are really great.
19:18Cause we get to.
19:18I mean.
19:19Dude.
19:19We're in our skates for.
19:21Like 14 hours.
19:22Like without taking them off.
19:23Oh.
19:24Which is absolutely brutal.
19:25How hard is that on your feet?
19:26It hurts so bad.
19:27Dude.
19:27It hurts so bad.
19:29Like under.
19:30No other circumstance.
19:31Would you ever leave your boots on for that long.
19:33No.
19:33But like.
19:34There's no point in taking them off.
19:35You have to put them right back on.
19:36And go out and shoot.
19:37Yeah.
19:37So that sucks.
19:38But like hanging out with the guys.
19:40That play all like the rest of the team.
19:42And the opposing team.
19:43In the show.
19:44Is so much fun.
19:45Yeah.
19:45And like.
19:46So like for us.
19:47Like.
19:47Just getting to hang out with them.
19:49Is helpful for us as performers.
19:51Like guys playing.
19:52Hockey players.
19:53Because that banter.
19:54That like.
19:55That friendship.
19:55That brotherhood.
19:56Is so important to.
19:57Like the.
19:58Heartbeat of our show.
19:59So it's nice to actually be.
20:01Literally surrounded by.
20:02Guys who play.
20:02Put the L class on first.
20:04That's crazy.
20:05Yeah.
20:05It's really weird.
20:06Yeah.
20:07You don't do that.
20:07Yeah.
20:09Are you guys rising?
20:11No.
20:12You put the shoulder pads on.
20:14Then you put the elbow pads on.
20:15And then you put the jersey on.
20:16That's not how I would do it.
20:17If I was a slow hockey player.
20:19That's the best.
20:21Do you think there's.
20:22That locker room kind of feel.
20:24Just even with like.
20:25Even the crew members.
20:27And like.
20:27Yeah.
20:27All the people that you.
20:28Yeah.
20:29Interact with.
20:29Yeah.
20:30There really is.
20:30Like most.
20:31If not all of our crew skates.
20:33You know.
20:34They're from Vancouver.
20:35They spend time here.
20:36Canadian.
20:37Or they just play hockey.
20:39But like.
20:40Everybody's on skates.
20:41A lot of them are better than me.
20:42And it's.
20:44There's a real.
20:45A lot of pressure.
20:46When we get to the rink.
20:48To shoot.
20:48It's so much fun.
20:49And then like.
20:49We have a locker room.
20:50You know.
20:51It's like.
20:51Me and.
20:52Steven and Jalen.
20:53And Antonio.
20:53Like we all get dressed all together.
20:55You know.
20:55Yeah.
20:55We're talking shit the entire time.
20:57Yeah.
20:57It's really really fun.
20:58Yeah.
20:58I think you would approve actually.
21:00Yeah.
21:01Because Vinny.
21:01Said it to me before too.
21:02He's like.
21:03This is just like being.
21:04At work.
21:05I want to ask you about the Olympics dude.
21:07I mean like.
21:07You've probably suffered.
21:08You know.
21:08Like you're a competitor.
21:09You've been competing for a long time.
21:11Yeah.
21:11Like have you.
21:11You've lost other big games obviously.
21:13Like what is that.
21:14How do you.
21:15How do you deal.
21:16That was like.
21:18Obviously just because of the.
21:21Magnitude of the game.
21:22Like.
21:22Yeah.
21:22USA Canada.
21:23That rivalry.
21:24And then.
21:24The history that went into it.
21:26I don't know if you saw like.
21:27The Four Nations.
21:27The year before.
21:28Like.
21:28Yeah.
21:29I mean.
21:29Being on the ice.
21:30Like stepping onto warm ups.
21:31For that game.
21:34Because I was hyping it up.
21:35In my head so much.
21:36I think I went out there.
21:37And I was.
21:39You kind of realize.
21:40You're like.
21:40Okay.
21:40It's just another game.
21:41You're just playing.
21:42But.
21:42Yeah.
21:43Kind of ties into like.
21:44How do you deal with like.
21:45Failure and stuff.
21:46Yeah.
21:46I had a lot of chances in that game.
21:48I had a breakaway.
21:49I had a couple chances.
21:55Unbelievable.
21:55But.
21:56That kind of stuff.
21:58It.
21:59It.
22:00I have a very short memory.
22:01I think it's just because like.
22:04I'm not really thinking about anything.
22:06Except for like.
22:07Kind of what I'm doing.
22:07Yeah.
22:08I forget to text people back.
22:09I forget.
22:10Like.
22:10I just forget.
22:11Just because like.
22:11I'm kind of.
22:12I just.
22:13The way I am.
22:14Like.
22:14I don't really.
22:16Think about stuff.
22:17Other than like.
22:18What I'm doing.
22:18And.
22:19Yeah.
22:19That's just kind of the way I am.
22:21Yeah.
22:21So like.
22:21I honestly like.
22:23I haven't watched the game back.
22:24I haven't really.
22:26I've thought about it a lot.
22:27But.
22:28Yeah.
22:28I kind of just forget.
22:30Like quickly.
22:31Yeah.
22:32And I think.
22:33I can't really let it.
22:34Eat.
22:34Eat at me.
22:35Just because.
22:36But I.
22:36It's also.
22:37Like learning.
22:38Cause.
22:39I mean.
22:39In two years.
22:40We have the world cup of hockey.
22:41Yeah.
22:41In the Olympics.
22:43I was going to say like.
22:44You're young.
22:44Like.
22:44Is there a part of you.
22:45That's like.
22:45Maybe someday I'll be glad for that loss.
22:48Because of all the things that like.
22:49I'm going to go.
22:50Accomplish.
22:50In spite of it.
22:51You know.
22:52Like.
22:53Not letting it.
22:54Get to you.
22:55Bog you down.
22:56Right.
22:56But using it as fuel.
22:57Is that.
22:57Is that.
22:57One of the ways.
22:58That's.
22:59That's the way.
22:59A lot of people have.
23:01Brought it to me.
23:02Like.
23:02Use it as fuel.
23:03Right.
23:03Right.
23:04But I think like.
23:06You may never get that opportunity again.
23:08Sure.
23:08Like.
23:08Obviously.
23:09You never know what's going to happen.
23:10And I.
23:11I think about it all the time.
23:13I wish there was a better outcome.
23:14But.
23:15Yeah.
23:15I think.
23:16To your point.
23:17I think.
23:17There was a reason for.
23:18For.
23:20I'm a big believer in that.
23:21Yeah.
23:21Like.
23:21There's a reason that.
23:22To everything that happens.
23:24Yeah.
23:24I think there was some.
23:25Some stuff to learn from that.
23:26That's cool man.
23:27Well you guys had a fucking phenomenal run.
23:29Yeah.
23:29It was fun.
23:30Yeah.
23:30A lot of fun.
23:31You'll be back I'm sure.
23:32I hope so.
23:33When was the first inkling.
23:34Where you're like.
23:35Oh shit.
23:35Like.
23:36I could.
23:37I could get drafted.
23:38And I could compete.
23:39In the NHL.
23:40Like.
23:40When did you first feel like.
23:41Oh this is a real opportunity for me.
23:43Obviously I thought about it.
23:44I watched NHL games.
23:45Yep.
23:45And dreamed of.
23:46Playing in the league.
23:48Achieving that goal.
23:49But.
23:50I think.
23:51Up until.
23:52Probably.
23:53Junior.
23:53Which I was.
23:5516.
23:56So two years.
23:56Back from my draft year.
23:57Yep.
23:58I think that was the first time.
23:59I started thinking about.
24:00Like man.
24:00Like I could actually.
24:01Like play in the NHL.
24:03And I feel like.
24:03Yeah.
24:04I'm getting to a level.
24:05Where I'm.
24:05I'm confident in myself.
24:07And.
24:08And what I'm doing.
24:09And.
24:10I think that.
24:10That was really the first time.
24:12Where I kind of sat back.
24:13And I was like.
24:14That this is very possible.
24:15Like.
24:16Yeah.
24:17Hockey's.
24:17Like.
24:18It gets so serious.
24:19So young.
24:20Yeah.
24:20You know.
24:21It's like.
24:21The competition is so stiff.
24:23Like.
24:23In your teens.
24:24Yeah.
24:25That like.
24:25How old were you when you got drafted?
24:27I was 18.
24:27Yeah.
24:28I was 18.
24:28Yeah.
24:29I turned 18.
24:31On June 13th.
24:32And then.
24:33The draft was June 30th.
24:35So I was.
24:35I just turned 18.
24:36That's such a trip.
24:37Yeah.
24:38Which is crazy.
24:38Because then I played my first NHL game.
24:41Three months later.
24:42Two and a half months later.
24:44Wow.
24:44I mean.
24:44It was.
24:45That summer was.
24:46Insane.
24:46Like just.
24:47Yeah.
24:47It moved so fast.
24:48I bet.
24:49I bet.
24:49When did you know you could do it professionally?
24:51So.
24:52For me.
24:53I feel like for sports.
24:54It's a little bit easier.
24:55Just because.
24:56You kind of see all the guys you're playing against.
24:58And you kind of.
24:59There's rankings.
25:00And stuff like that.
25:01Yeah.
25:01For you as an actor.
25:02How did that process kind of go?
25:04Like just.
25:05From the TV shows you were on.
25:06And the auditions.
25:07Like.
25:07Yeah.
25:08When did you think that like.
25:09You could.
25:09Like full honesty.
25:11I.
25:12Thought I could do this professionally.
25:13Before I'd ever acted before.
25:15Wow.
25:15When I was a.
25:16Student.
25:17In college.
25:18I was studying business.
25:19And then.
25:20When I.
25:21Realized that's not what I wanted.
25:22And I thought about like.
25:23What would I do for work.
25:24If I could do anything.
25:25Um.
25:26And I arrived.
25:27Very quickly at.
25:29The dream of being a filmmaker.
25:30I hadn't.
25:31Done it before.
25:32But I was like.
25:32I could figure that out.
25:33I didn't.
25:34Know for certain.
25:35That I would have.
25:36Success.
25:36And I imagined it would take.
25:38Quite some time.
25:38Um.
25:39But I always believed.
25:40That like.
25:41I could sort it out.
25:42That's kind of like.
25:43The belief I had.
25:44But then like.
25:45The first time I felt like.
25:46A professional actor.
25:47Was.
25:47Way after that.
25:49I had done a lot of jobs.
25:50And when you start out.
25:51You know.
25:51And I had never trained.
25:52I didn't grow up doing theater.
25:54So.
25:54You know.
25:55Every job I got.
25:55I was like.
25:56Oh man.
25:56Like.
25:57At some point.
25:57They're gonna realize that.
25:58Like.
25:58I don't know what I'm doing.
25:59You know.
26:00But I like.
26:00Kept auditioning.
26:01You keep.
26:02You say no.
26:03You hear no.
26:03You hear no.
26:04And then you get something.
26:05And I've used all my jobs.
26:06And all those auditions.
26:07To like.
26:08Build my process.
26:09And like.
26:10Reaffirm that belief.
26:11In myself.
26:12But the first time.
26:13I was like.
26:13Oh shit.
26:14Okay.
26:14I kind of feel like.
26:15A professional actor now.
26:16Was.
26:17When I shot.
26:18A horror film.
26:19In Budapest.
26:20Oh wow.
26:21It was a movie called.
26:22Until Dawn.
26:22Which was like.
26:23Based on a video game.
26:24Okay.
26:24When I got off the plane.
26:26And like.
26:27A driver from production.
26:28Was there in a van.
26:29And he handed me like.
26:30A manila folder.
26:31With a script in it.
26:32And I was like.
26:33In Europe.
26:34About to shoot a movie.
26:35Like abroad.
26:35For the first time.
26:36I was like.
26:37Oh this.
26:37Feels like.
26:38I'm living the dream.
26:40Right now.
26:40That's really cool.
26:41It was cool.
26:42Yeah.
26:42And still.
26:43You know.
26:43Like.
26:44There's always.
26:45Like.
26:45I'm sure.
26:45Same as you.
26:46But like.
26:46I always feel like.
26:47There's so much.
26:48To learn.
26:49And I have.
26:49So much.
26:50To grow into.
26:51What.
26:52Part of your game.
26:52Are you.
26:53Most focused on.
26:54Getting better.
26:54And growing.
26:55Over your off season.
26:56This year.
26:56So last year.
26:57With the Olympics.
26:58And all that stuff.
26:59We played a lot of games.
27:00Pretty much.
27:01Every other night.
27:02And back to backs.
27:04And travel.
27:05And all that stuff.
27:05It's.
27:06Like.
27:06I.
27:07It was the first year.
27:08Where.
27:08I played way more games.
27:10Than I practiced.
27:11Like.
27:11I didn't really.
27:12Especially the second half.
27:14Of the year.
27:14Like.
27:14I didn't really skate.
27:16Unless it was a game.
27:18Which is.
27:18The weirdest thing ever.
27:19Like.
27:20I'd get off the ice.
27:21And then I wouldn't touch the ice.
27:22Until warm ups.
27:23Of the game.
27:24Like.
27:24The next game.
27:25Which is.
27:25Holy shit.
27:26It was really weird for me.
27:28But.
27:28It was just energy.
27:29Like.
27:29You just don't have enough energy.
27:30To kind of.
27:31Right.
27:32Even just like.
27:33Get dressed.
27:33And like.
27:34Get out there.
27:34It just.
27:35It's a lot.
27:35It takes a lot.
27:36So like.
27:37Especially after the Olympics.
27:38Like.
27:38That kind of.
27:39Drained you a little bit.
27:40So like.
27:40I just feel like.
27:42I got caught.
27:43Especially with how many games.
27:44I played.
27:45It was.
27:45It was tough.
27:46To kind of feel fresh.
27:47Every night.
27:48Yeah.
27:48Kind of balancing.
27:49Like.
27:50Some of that.
27:50Like.
27:50Conditioning.
27:51And all that stuff.
27:52With.
27:53Speed work.
27:53And like.
27:54Trying to get faster.
27:55Yeah.
27:55Have a little bit more pop.
27:56I think that's.
27:57For me.
27:57Your shoot days are like.
27:5914 hours.
27:59Yeah.
28:00Which.
28:00I mean.
28:01That's a real long day.
28:02Like.
28:03Walk me through.
28:04A day on set.
28:04Okay.
28:05So I wake up.
28:05What time.
28:06Would you usually.
28:07If it's a long day.
28:08What time would you wake up?
28:09Well so.
28:10The way it works is like.
28:10On Mondays.
28:11We start.
28:12Super fucking early.
28:13And then you do a full.
28:14Twelve and a half hour.
28:16But like.
28:16It's like.
28:16Not including travel.
28:17And hair and makeup.
28:18So.
28:19Whatever time you get done.
28:20On Monday.
28:20Usually pushes the start.
28:22For Tuesday.
28:23And then Tuesday.
28:24If it goes a little over.
28:24That pushes.
28:25So.
28:25Mondays are usually.
28:26Super early in the morning.
28:27And then Fridays.
28:28You're going to work.
28:29Around noon or one.
28:30Okay.
28:30But you're shooting.
28:31Until the middle of the night.
28:32Right.
28:32So every day.
28:33Is kind of different.
28:34Whatever it is.
28:35I'm waking up.
28:35About ten minutes.
28:36Before I need to be in the van.
28:37I wake up.
28:38I brush my teeth.
28:39I like.
28:39Dunk my head under the sink.
28:40Just to get my hair wet.
28:41And then.
28:42I get out the door.
28:43And my hair and makeup team.
28:44Is here.
28:44And they're like.
28:45Yeah.
28:45That's exactly what it is.
28:47And then like.
28:48I'll work all day.
28:55And then I go to sleep.
28:56And it's like.
28:57Back in the van.
28:58Yeah.
28:58When I get to work.
28:59It's so nice.
29:00Like.
29:01We have.
29:01Such.
29:02Great teams.
29:04And everybody's like.
29:05It's really like.
29:05Family there.
29:06So.
29:07When you get to work.
29:07It's like.
29:08Always.
29:08Like.
29:08Exciting to see everybody.
29:10Even though you literally.
29:11Just saw them.
29:11Like.
29:11One wink of sleep ago.
29:13But you know.
29:13We got music playing in the trailer.
29:15Like.
29:16You know.
29:16Leah.
29:17My makeup artist.
29:18Will always make me a coffee in the morning.
29:19Which is so sweet.
29:20She'll make me my iced coffee.
29:22And like.
29:22We'll all put our little eye patches on.
29:24And like.
29:25Tell stories.
29:25Or just like.
29:26Sit there and listen to music.
29:27Like.
29:27Vibes are always so good to start the day.
29:29And then we get into it.
29:30And you know.
29:31You start shooting.
29:31And then you shoot.
29:32All day long.
29:35And we get into it.
29:37Yeah.
29:37And it was funny.
29:38Like.
29:38When we watched season one.
29:39For the first time.
29:40And it's like.
29:41Damn.
29:41That took us five months to shoot.
29:43And just like.
29:44Half a day to watch.
29:45Yeah.
29:45Yeah.
29:45Yeah.
29:47So a lot goes into it.
29:48But like.
29:49It's.
29:49It's a blast.
29:50Mm-hmm.
29:50And.
29:51When you work on TV.
29:52You work with different directors.
29:54so we do eight episodes and you'll end up working with four different directors they'll each do two
29:59okay like i want to direct someday so it's really interesting to learn from uh different examples
30:05right people direct in different ways people run a set differently they interact with actors
30:10differently um so it's a gift on television to work with different directors in the same season
30:15um that's really cool i'm always like absorbing as much as i can walk me through game day yeah i
30:23think just like talking about like how long your days are i think being an athlete's pretty easy
30:28it sounds nice it might be the best job in the world yeah but nobody's like you know knocking
30:33me off my feet and hitting me full speed that's true for like a couple hours yeah you could get
30:38hurt but but i mean our our game days are nice like wake up probably like eight o'clock get
30:46to the rink
30:46if it's a home game we have meeting in the morning at the rink our practice rink we go there
30:51kind of
30:52eat breakfast everyone's kind of just hanging out cool shooting it and then the we have a pre-game
30:58skate sometimes it's optional sometimes we don't sometimes we do it kind of depends on our schedule
31:04how many games we've had yeah how these guys are feeling um so puck drop at seven i get to
31:10the rink
31:10at like four 3 45 which is like way earlier than ever like that's not normal but like okay for
31:17me
31:18i i like just like chilling like i just like hang out like i i get there so it's nice
31:25being on the west
31:25coast because we have a bunch of tvs in our lounge and we just throw on like football games um
31:31basketball
31:32games other other games that are starting earlier at four so i get there like 3 45 change toss some
31:38music
31:38on and i'm like there and it's like our staff so i'm just like chilling like that's so nice
31:43eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich like watching some tv and um i tape my sticks and all
31:48that stuff yeah just kind of i just move slow like i just i need to i hate being rushed
31:53especially on
31:54a game day like i like just kind of like taking my time with everything so i just get there
31:58early
31:58and yeah i take forever to get my gear on yeah because i don't i don't i like to do
32:02it quick
32:02you think you'd be good at it acting yeah i don't know i don't think so well you said i
32:07mean you're
32:08almost in our show you said i did i did okay so can you tell me why the shoot time
32:13was like it was
32:14like midnight till like 3 a.m yeah so would that be on a saturday or what it would yeah
32:18it would
32:19probably be at the end of the week okay if we're shooting outside exteriors for night like you can't
32:25start the day until the sun goes down that's true and then you you'll want to be rolling camera for
32:29as
32:29much of the time that the sun is gone as you possibly can so it's like we get whatever here
32:34not even that long in vancouver for how long the nights last yeah so it's like you got nine hours
32:39to get all these night things you gotta bang them out yeah so yeah sometimes shoots don't start until
32:43the sun goes down yeah is that what they wanted you for that's what they wanted you for and you
32:47were
32:47like hell no i want to sleep i was like well i i don't think it worked but i was
32:51also like that's an
32:53absurd time to film yeah there is no absurd time to film you could be filming at any given
32:59yeah no i think i mean from the little acting i've done yeah it's been a challenge for me but
33:06you've done some did you do like theaters again or anything no no no so i like i'm not really
33:10used to it at all me neither honestly it's actually it's pretty crazy you picked it up
33:17yeah well you know i learned how to skate too so yeah i mean kind of a quick learner yeah
33:22you'll have
33:22to see me on the ice at some point you'll be like all right yeah well maybe i'll be there
33:26when you
33:27skate with barbershop that would be honestly be great yeah i'd probably have a thousand questions
33:31for you if i can make it out to san jose i'll come see you at home but more likely
33:34i'll probably see
33:35you when you're on the road somewhere yeah let's do it yeah in new york or in chicago when you're
33:38playing
33:38maybe in anaheim or something 100 good shit dude that'd be unreal dude this was great man yeah great to
33:45meet you really good chat you too dude
33:49so
34:16so
