00:00The BRICS countries are holding a new summit in India this week,
00:03with leaders such as Narendra Modi, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping expected to attend.

00:13Greetings, comrades. I'm here in Beijing to tell you about the upcoming BRICS summit,
00:20which will take place on September 12 and 13 in New Delhi, India.
00:26It will be the 18th BRICS summit.
00:30The group now brings the 11 member countries and 10 partner countries,
00:36reflecting the growing weight of this cooperation mechanism among emerging economies
00:44and countries of the global south.
00:47Its economic weight is also significant.
00:51BRICS countries account for nearly 37% of the global GDP,
00:57measured in purchasing power parity, compared with around 29% for the G7.
01:07India's president has set four priorities for this summit.
01:11Resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability.
01:16The agenda includes issues such as trade, energy, food security, health, technology and supply chains.
01:27One of the main focus will be China and India.
01:32The Chinese president Xi Jinping is expected in New Delhi, which would be his first visit to the country in
01:41seven years,
01:42amid an improvement in bilateral ties, including the resumption of direct flight and cross-border trade.
01:52The summit is also taking place amid growing trade and geopolitical tensions.
01:59For Beijing, strengthening BRICS cooperation can help amplify the voice of the global south
02:06and promote a more just, representative and multipolar international system.
