00:00But tonight, finally here, NFL kicks off.
00:02You can watch on NBC, on Peacock, on NFL Plus.
00:06820 kick, Lumen Field.
00:09It is a Super Bowl rematch.
00:12It's a great match.
00:13Of course, Seattle pretty much took care of business and just drummed them.
00:16I mean, they dominated.
00:18In Super Bowl.
00:19They won by 16, but probably wasn't even that close.
00:22They sacked Drake May six times.
00:24They couldn't protect them.
00:25I don't remember much about that Super Bowl, to be honest.
00:28It was ugly.
00:29Yeah, I remember that it wasn't very high scoring.
00:32Wasn't Seattle had like 12-0 at some point?
00:34Something like that.
00:3529-13 was the final.
00:37But all eyes were on Drake May because he was having such a great year.
00:40And he wasn't good.
00:42The New England offense wasn't good.
00:44So it's a great rematch.
00:45New England was scoreless through three quarters, Cakes.
00:46Yeah.
00:47That's a dud.
00:48They fell behind by 19.
00:49That's a big time.
00:50When you're trailing by 19 in the Super Bowl, it's probably over.
00:53It's one of the worst performances offensively from a Super Bowl team in a long time.
00:56So there are a couple things to look at tonight that are going to be interesting.
00:59We've been talking about, well, what are the questions with the Commanders and the Eagles?
01:03Well, the questions with the Patriots start with pass protection.
01:06So Drake May, I believe, was sacked more than any other quarterback in the NFL last season.
01:10He took 21 sacks in the playoffs.
01:14And Will Campbell was their No. 4 pick.
01:17Yep.
01:18That's the guy with the short arms.
01:19Yep.
01:20The gator arms.
01:20He was a big problem for them last year.
01:24So you wonder if in year two if he's going to be better.
01:27They moved in.
01:28I think part of it, too, is he wasn't healthy during part of that playoff stretch.
01:31Yes.
01:31He wasn't just in effective play.
01:33He wasn't at 100%.
01:34I was reading some stuff online, and they said that Campbell did play pretty well in the preseason.
01:39Okay.
01:40Good.
01:41In the joint practices that they have or whatever, and I'm sure he didn't play a lot in the preseason
01:45games,
01:45but they said he did look good.
01:47So people are going to be scrutinizing the Patriots' pass protection.
01:51They also brought in a new guard, moved a guard to center, kind of did some shuffling,
01:55much like the Commanders did, shuffling that offensive line, but they need Will Campbell to play better.
02:00Then you're going to look at A.J. Brown.
02:02Yep.
02:02I didn't realize A.J. Brown, during his career, seven pro seasons, six times over 1,000 yards,
02:09but this is what jumped out at me.
02:11This is from NextGenStats.
02:12He leads the entire NFL during his career in touchdowns on deep throws.
02:19So these are 20-plus air yards, touchdowns.
02:22He's got 18 in seven seasons.
02:25Mike Evans or somebody?
02:26I feel like Mike Evans has got a bunch.
02:27I don't have the list.
02:27I just know that numero uno is A.J. Brown.
02:30So you're going to see if he's going to be a difference overall, and with deep throws,
02:35he'll be facing Devin Witherspoon, who's legit.
02:39Just got paid, too.
02:40Yeah.
02:41So are you going to get a locked-in A.J. Brown that's not a malcontent?
02:45I'm hoping in the first game with the Patriots you're going to see that guy,
02:49because some of the last optics you saw with him in his last days in Philly, they weren't great.
02:54Well, even the year before.
02:55Arguing with his coach.
02:57Remember the year before he was reading books on the sideline?
02:59Yeah, I mean, he's a mercurial dude.
03:01He needed a new spot.
03:02He needed a change.
03:03He needed a change of scenery.
03:04Sometimes that's the best thing for some of these guys.
03:07Like, I mean, Stephon Diggs, here with the Commanders, he's a guy that has had multiple changes of scenery.
03:13Yeah.
03:14Sometimes four teams in four years.
03:15Sometimes wide receivers, they go in for a few years, their act will wear thin, they move on to a
03:19new spot.
03:20I mean, A.J. Brown's already on his third team.
03:23And they brought in Dobbs.
03:25Let's see how he impacts them.
03:26So May's got legit now.
03:27He's got legit receivers.
03:28He's got a good tight end in Hunter Henry.
03:31And he still threw for 4,400 yards last year.
03:33Even without those guys, he still led the league in completion percentage and also passed yardage per attempt.
03:42It was almost nine.
03:44Now another year with the Josh McDaniels offense.
03:46So they should be a better offense.
03:48On the flip side, they just gave Christian Gonzalez a ton of money, right?
03:52He gets $135 million, four-year contract.
03:55He's going to be matched up against JSN.
03:57So you've got some interesting matchups on both sides.
03:59A.J. Brown against Witherspoon.
04:02JSN against Christian Gonzalez.
04:07In the Super Bowl, actually, JSN only had four catches for 27 yards.
04:12Yeah.
04:12I mean, they didn't really need him.
04:14They didn't really need him.
04:15They're smothering them with the defense.
04:17They didn't have to do much offensively.
04:18Did you mention, because I don't know, who's filling in, who's replacing Kenneth Walker?
04:24Jadarian Price was drafted out of Notre Dame, the second Notre Dame running back drafted in the first round after
04:30Jeremiah Love.
04:31Oh, he went in the first round.
04:32Late first round.
04:34And they have Helani as a backup.
04:35He's more of a pass catcher out of the backfield.
04:38So they're putting a lot of responsibility in the hands of a rookie that should see the bulk of the
04:43carries tonight.
04:44And then I think another storyline, and maybe he's gotten past this, is will Sam Darnold be able to duplicate
04:50his success?
04:51Now, he's done it for two years in a row, really.
04:54Right.
04:55If you include Minnesota and Seattle.
04:56I'm getting out of the doubting Sam Darnold business at this point.
04:59I mean, he had a great year at Minnesota.
05:01He parlayed that into a deal with the Seahawks.
05:05Wins a Super Bowl with them.
05:08He's answered all the questions at this point.
05:11I think he's clearly an above-average NFL quarterback.
05:15I don't think he's elite, but he's really good.
05:18He'll take a really good quarterback.
05:20I'm sure he wants to cut down on the picks.
05:22Yep.
05:23You can win a Super Bowl with him.
05:24You can win a Super Bowl.
05:25He's proven that.
05:26Proven.
05:26It's going to be tough, I think, for New England to go out there week one, having not played a
05:32lot in the preseason in the first team,
05:34and beat them, beat the Super Bowl champs, but we'll see.
05:37I mean, Seattle's defense is really, really good.
05:40I think losing Travion Henderson as an explosive piece definitely hurts them.
05:45I think it's an ankle injury he's dealing with.
05:47That puts a lot of pressure on Ramondre Stevenson to not only rush the ball 18 or 20 times,
05:54he's going to be involved in the passing game, too, out of the backfield.
05:57Right.
05:57Because that's kind of what Travion Henderson is a specialist in.
06:01Catching short passes and ripping them for 50-yard gains.
06:04Maybe do you root against Drake May, Caleb Williams, Bo Nix, so that you can prop up Jaden Daniels?
06:10He'd rather Sam Darnold beat Drake May.
06:14You can just be honest.
06:16I don't know.
06:18Maybe I do.
06:19I don't know.
06:20I'm not really sure about it.
06:20I think you should be rooting for Drake May because you said multiple times it was going
06:25to be one of the best quarterback classes.
06:27I think I've been proven correct so far.
06:29I know Drake May is a nice kid, and he seems easy to root for.
06:34You root against him, too.
06:35It wouldn't pain me.
06:37It wouldn't have me losing sleep if he face-planted tonight against the Seattle Seahawks.
06:42Honestly, of the quarterbacks in that class, the one I root against the most probably quietly
06:49and to myself is Caleb.
06:51I don't know why.
06:53He's local.
06:53Why?
06:53Because he went one?
06:54No, because he hated his fingernails.
06:56I don't like the fingernails, but I don't know.
06:58There's just something about Caleb that kind of runs you the wrong way, but he's a great
07:00talent.
07:01Yeah.
07:01He's local.
07:02He roots for local guys.
07:05But I kind of don't.
07:08I want Jaden, at the end of the day, to have a better career than Caleb Williams.
07:12Of all the guys in the class, that one I would be annoyed with.
07:15I'll text you at 2.55 a.m.
07:16when I wake up to watch the second half.
07:18Nice.
07:18Please don't.
07:19Please don't text me.
07:20I'll be in my deep REM sleep.
07:22You know, a couple weeks ago, these guys were wondering about fandom.
07:26Here's the thing about the NFL.
07:28I'm not a fan of the Seahawks.
07:30I'm not a fan of the New England Patriots.
07:33But I love watching the NFL.
07:35You love the product.
07:36Yeah.
07:36You've got people that love to gamble.
07:38It's so good.
07:38You've got people locked in on fantasy.
07:40There's so many different reasons to watch the games.
07:43Yeah, I'm in fantasy leagues.
07:45It doesn't bother me that much.
07:47Actually, that reminds me.
07:48I'm going to write this down.
07:49To-do list.
07:50Get your survivor picks.
07:51Now, my one team that I did the high-stakes league that I did the draft with, I did like
07:5612 rounds, and then we just turned it to auto-draft after that, and we don't have a kicker.
08:03It is a league where you need a kicker, so I just need to go pick up a kicker.
08:06You've got to go pick one up, yeah.
08:07Where did you say what network is the game on again?
08:09NBC.
08:09NBC.
08:10All right.
08:10Is that Collinsworth?
08:12So we get to see the Collinsworth slide?
08:14You see the debut of Mike Tomlin tonight?
08:18Oh, yeah.
08:18In studio?
08:19I mean, if it's an NBC product, Mike Tomlin's in the studio.
08:23Did you see somebody did an interview with Tomlin, and I think it's just kind of been revealed,
08:27he's a big Minecraft guy.
08:29I think I saw he's been building a Minecraft city for like a dozen years.
08:33Twelve years.
08:33What a loser.
08:34Twelve years.
08:36Mike Tomlin.
08:37Hey, Mark.
08:38Mike Tomlin's big into Minecraft.
08:39I had no clue.
08:40I played Minecraft, but I was seven.
08:42I mean, yeah, my kids were all into Minecraft, but they're grown now.
08:46I don't think...
08:47I think there was a resurgence of Minecraft like four or five years ago.
08:51Yeah.
08:51Six years ago, maybe.
08:53Minecraft is big.
08:54I wish I'd come up with Minecraft and then walked into the Microsoft headquarters and
08:58sold it to them for...
08:59I think they bought it for north of a billion dollars.
09:02I saw something impressive about him beyond his love of Minecraft.
09:06It was Aaron Rodgers talking about his time with Tomlin.
09:09Yeah.
09:10And he said what impressed him about Tomlin is Tomlin knew things about not just him
09:15and who their friends were, what they were doing.
09:18He said all 90 guys on the roster.
09:20He knew specific things and he would bring them up and he'd be like, how's so-and-so
09:25doing?
09:26Just knew how to relate to people.
09:27That's just a sick memory too.
09:29That's a sick people skill.
09:30Yes.
09:30Yeah.
09:31Good memory flex.
09:32My memory stinks.
09:34I don't know half the salespeople here that have been here for 10 years.
09:38By the way, Drake may over a touchdown and a half tonight's plus 132.
09:44Under is minus 174.
09:46Ooh.
09:47They think he's going to throw one and done.
09:48They don't see a lot of passing touchdowns from Drake may his passing yards to 32 and
09:54a half.
09:54If you want to look at Sam Darnold, passing touchdowns over is over one and a half is
10:01plus one 10.
10:02So slightly more than what Drake may is.
10:05Uh, his under is minus one 44.
10:07They kind of, it seems like they're kind of expecting a lower scoring game.
10:10Um, of course Seattle lays three in the game and are you surprised they're only laying
10:16three?
10:16Uh, I mean, it's the Superbowl rematch.
10:19It's week one.
10:20Just don't know what you're going to get.
10:21That makes sense.
10:22See if there's a Superbowl hangover.
10:23He only lost like five key players via free agency.
10:27The Patriots implied team total tonight is 20.8 points.
10:33Patriots are 20.8.
10:3420.8.
10:35And the Seahawks 23.8.
10:37Yep.
10:38So they are expecting a close game.
10:39A little bit lower than the Eagles.
10:40They might want to guess the implied team total for the Cleveland Browns this week against
10:44the Jags.
10:45Ooh.
10:46Cleveland 17.
10:4714 and a half.
10:4816.
10:48JP was close.
10:4916 points.
10:5016 with the Sean.
10:52Give us the.
10:52Commanders are 19 and a half.
10:54Give us the Deshaun player props, Jason, for this week.
10:57Let me see what that is.
10:57Maybe we go against.
10:58They can't be rosy.
10:59Hold on.
11:00Let me get to it.
11:00I mean, is there a chance he goes out there and just balls out and just looks like Deshaun
11:05of five years ago?
11:06There's always a chance.
11:07I mean, it's unlikely.
11:09I would be surprised.
11:10I'd be stunned.
11:11All right.
11:11See, passing props for Deshaun Watson.
11:14Touchdowns.
11:15If you want to go over a half.
11:18Wow.
11:19That's a half.
11:20He just has to throw one touchdown?
11:22Yeah.
11:23It's minus 180.
11:25Under plus 140.
11:27All right.
11:27So.
11:28What's over one and a half?
11:29I'd have to go to the alt.
11:30Hold on.
11:31Let me just go to the passing yards.
11:32I mean, two's asking a lot, right?
11:34For what we've seen so far.
11:35So passing yards.
11:36Who's their best receiver?
11:37They said it at 170.
11:38I don't know.
11:39Is it Judy?
11:39They drafted Concepcion in Boston.
11:42Yeah, they got two.
11:42You know who the best receiver is?
11:43It's tight end.
11:44Harold Fannin.
11:44Yeah.
11:45That's their best receiver.
11:47178 and a half is the passing yardage.
11:49Basically, even money.
11:50Right.
11:52So.
11:53All right.
11:54Not going to be a lot of offensive fireworks from the Browns.
11:56You wouldn't think.
11:57Remember, later in the program, you don't want to miss Paul Timoni, president of baseball
12:00operations for the Washington Nationals.
12:02Mike Locksley, head coach at the University of Maryland, jumps on at 945 here on the Junkies.
