00:00There's a growing sense of alarm among survivors of the Palisades and Eaton fires that a federally
00:05funded program through FEMA called Disaster Case Management has run out of money and no new funding
00:09is forthcoming from Washington, D.C. The DCM program helps fire survivors get back on their
00:15feet. It helps them with advice, it helps them apply for loans, it helps them find grants,
00:18and it's essential for survivors, many of whom are still picking up the pieces after the January 7,
00:232025 disaster. The state of California informed the non-profit organizations that administer
00:29these programs, including Catholic charities, that the money had run out and they would have to shut
00:33operations down by the end of September. That has fire survivors in a panic. Now, the funding seems
00:39to be a casualty of the political fight that's going on between the White House on the one hand and
00:44the
00:44state of California under Governor Gavin Newsom on the other. Initially, the White House seemed inclined
00:49to give Newsom whatever he asked for, but then Newsom signed legislation to sue the Trump administration,
00:55$50 million worth of lawsuits, including $25 million on immigration alone. Newsom also took
01:00to social media and started trolling President Trump, making fun of him, attacking him. Now,
01:04Newsom says Trump is to blame for the deterioration of the relationship. He says that Trump brought the
01:08National Guard to California when they weren't wanted, even though other democratic cities and
01:13places have accepted the National Guard and been very happy with the help they bring in fighting crime
01:17and keeping cities safe and orderly and so on. But whoever is to blame for the impasse,
01:23fire survivors just need the help. They're not really that concerned about who to blame. They
01:27just want this program to continue as it was supposed to do through January, 2028. The question
01:32is, who's going to blink first? Who's going to come to the table first and find a solution? Well,
01:37for fire survivors, a solution has to happen by the end of the month or the programs supporting them
01:41will be shut down.
01:42Move action too and then walk by from the location and start to the right hand side by here
01:42continue doing the trip and stand the pool and place it Blauz.
