00:00Legacy of Atlantis serves as a bridge between two different versions of the Tomb Raider franchise.
00:05The puzzle and exploration focused original series and the more cinematic, action heavy Survivor trilogy.
00:12This new game remakes Lara's original adventure, yes, but closes the distance between the two visions.
00:18The puzzle heavy spirit of the original makes a triumphant return.
00:22There are multiple paths to explore, room in which to get a little lost, and a fair few collectibles to
00:27uncover.
00:28Lara is equipped with a scanner that'll give you some hints, but you are encouraged to actually figure things out
00:34for yourself.
00:34It's all very promising.
00:36So the big question is, why the delay?
00:39Well, it's the controls.
00:40Where the OG Tomb Raider relied on very precise, very rigid movement, this is a post-Uncharted adventure game,
00:48where you magnetize to ledges and have pretty generous leeway to make your jumps.
00:52Until, that is, I find myself awkwardly trying to find the precise spot where I can grab the next handhold,
00:58or fall imperceptibly out of position of a grappling point,
01:01or touch a wall during an escape from a T-Rex and get jump-scared by an insta-death as
01:06Lara is swallowed up.
01:07Many individual aspects of Legacy of Atlantis are thoroughly impressive.
01:12The visual design, the emphasis on puzzles, and the expanded combat system.
01:16Which is why I'm praying this, for want of a better term, jank, can be polished out by launch.
01:21There's an excellent foundation here, and I really want this version of Lara's Legacy to stand strong.
