Germany's satellite rocket marks first successful launch from continental Europe  German company Isar Aerospace has placed its Spectrum rocket in low Earth orbit at the second attempt, becoming the first European firm to do so with its own launcher and hitting the first milestone of ESA's European Launcher Challenge. 00:00Germany has just taken a historic step in space.

00:03The Spectrum rocket built by ISAR Aerospace lifted off from Andoya's spaceport in Norway

00:09and delivered its payload into low-Earth orbit.

00:12This was the rocket's second flight.

00:14Its first attempt in 2025 ended just 30 seconds after launch, crashing into the sea.

00:20With this launch, ISAR Aerospace becomes the first European company to reach orbit with a rocket of its own,

00:26achieving the opening milestone of the European Space Agency's European Launcher Challenge.

00:32Spectrum stands 28 meters tall and 2 meters wide.

00:36Powered by 10 engines, 9 in the first stage, 1 in the second,

00:40it can carry up to 1,000 kilograms into low-Earth orbit.

00:44On this flight, named Onward and Upward, it carried six commercial and educational payloads,

00:49including several CubeSats and a scientific experiment.

00:52ISAR Aerospace's success puts Andoya's spaceport on the map as a real option

00:57for launching low-Earth orbit satellites from continental Europe.
