00:01This year I'm the reserve driver at Nissan. My role is to ensure that both Ollie and Norman have everything
00:08that they require when they jump in and do their testing in the simulator.
00:12Being part of the team on the simulator is really important and it's very different to trying to do competitive
00:19laps if that makes sense.
00:21Of course you want to be fast but it's not all about being fast, it's about the development and your
00:25feedback that you can give.
00:26I mean a big thing for us on race weekends is they'll constantly before every session they'll be doing a
00:32software update.
00:33Each time they'll be changing little bits within the systems so they've got to then run it on the simulator
00:40first to make sure there's no bugs and there's nothing that doesn't kind of work correctly together.
00:47And I'm kind of there to diagnose it, make sure everything's running correctly and all the procedures are working correctly.
00:54And then we'll do the race runs which again I've got to make sure I'm driving efficiently but fast so
01:00that you can kind of get their predicted stuff for the races.
01:04We also have a lot of wet races this year so you've got to then adjust your driving for the
01:08wet and the simulations for that.
01:12And yeah I think communication, there's so much that goes on to making what I do in the simulator kind
01:19of beneficial for everyone involved.
01:21On a race weekend I'll mainly be sitting down with Norman and Ollie going through data, speaking if I've seen
01:28something trackside like a certain corner, guys I think you could do this.
01:32Trying to help the engineers if I've spotted something setup wise on some of the other cars.
01:37A race weekend at the simulator, last minute there's a kit check that needs to be done and I'm very
01:42rushed and need to make sure I do the procedure and everything alright so I can give them what they
01:49need to send over trackside.
01:51It can get quite hectic when it's just before like qualifying it's normally quite hectic because there's a lot to
01:57do.
01:58It's super fun and it feels nice to be able to work with the team and have some input into
02:06the results and we're feeling the highs of a race weekend and we're feeling the lows of a race weekend
02:12and we share that as a whole and it's super nice when they do have a good result and we
02:17can share it all together and we've all played our small part in it.
