The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said it has asked the family of a Filipino reported missing following massive flooding in Nepal to provide DNA samples that could help identify recovered bodies.

DFA Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro said during a House Committee on Appropriations hearing on Thursday, Sept. 3, that the state agency, along with Nepali authorities and international organizations, continues to assist in the search for people who remain unaccounted for after the disaster. 00:00Para sa mga OFWs natin, or yung mga constituents, mga Filipinos sa Nepal, do we have a complete list of
00:07those who are affected, and what is the DFA doing to support our kababayan abroad?
00:13Thank you very much, Your Honor.
00:14Our initial reaction is that we do not have a foreign service establishment in Nepal, so we rely only on
00:24our embassy in New Delhi, which has jurisdiction over Nepal and that area.
00:31More so, we have an honorary consul in Kathmandu, which is the capital of Nepal, that I think the honorary
00:38consul himself is also affected.
00:40However, based on the information, and of course that is cascading to our embassy in Delhi, there were Filipinos there,
00:49but there's only one missing.
00:52And all efforts now have been, I mean, all the resources, international organizations as well as the local authorities are
01:04still in the process of searching, as there are many.
01:10Reports said that there are about 4,000 missing persons.
01:13So now, I think we asked the family for the DNA so that we can match it with those bodies
01:22that are around the area.
01:25Of course, the situation in Nepal is very unfortunate.
01:28We have one kababayan that's missing, and I'm glad to hear that there are efforts to identify possibly through DNA
01:36matching, but at least may update po tayo dito.
01:39Here, let's see.
01:40Very good, thank you.
01:49You
