00:01Aussie firefighters are flying to Nepal to help search for flood victims in
00:07terrain too dangerous for ground crews to access. Fire and Rescue NSW is
00:12sending six drone operators and four incident specialists as part of a 15
00:18person Australian disaster response team. Well this is a disaster that does
00:22cover a very extensive area lots of also remote and hard to access locations
00:29within that area of impact and it also means that we can put the drones to
00:34work and make assessments on sites without putting people in harm's way.
00:40Using drones fitted with thermal imaging and AI to find survivors trapped by the
00:46flooding. The drones will map debris, assess damaged infrastructure and guide
00:52rescue crews through areas cut off by destroyed transport routes. Fire and
00:57Rescue NSW has previously deployed to disasters including the 2023 Turkey
01:03earthquake and 2022 Tongan volcanic eruption. There's a team of 15 going, it's a
01:09multidisciplinary team predominantly made up of firefighters. We're also taking an
01:14engineer from public works and again that'll enable the team to have good
01:19technical advice in the field to make any assessments on buildings they might be
01:23working in or around and also assist their operations that way.
