00:00I've heard 90-plus percent of the people tell me preseason don't count.
00:07You don't have to worry about this.
00:09You don't have to worry about that.
00:10But you know what?
00:11They all lost their minds afterwards because they think it counts now.
00:14But I think I've been waiting on September 13th,
00:17and I believe that the new person over there is behind the reason
00:23that we haven't seen a lot of guys.
00:24I believe they're going to have damn near a full haul of everybody ready to go.
00:29We know Tonson won't be there.
00:31We know Newton won't be there.
00:32But those other guys that haven't been practicing,
00:34I think they're going to be close.
00:36Let's take a listen to Nick Allegretti.
00:38You know, I would feel like I would.
00:40But I, missing time is hard for me.
00:45It's got something I missed it.
00:46So being cautious with it was something that I had to respect.
00:52You know, especially when we have Cap in here,
00:56new running the sports running side of things.
00:59So learning this process and trusting that process.
01:02It's frustrating at times because I think I missed more practice
01:06in this training camp than I have in my entire career.
01:08It's fine.
01:09So trusting that process that we need to be right for September,
01:15not August.
01:16So I don't ever plan on missing games.
01:20Obviously, we don't have to have time.
01:21But it would have been a faster timeline had it not happened.
01:27All right.
01:28What you heard from me on me, name the person.
01:30I'm not going to put the name out there because I think too many people
01:33become ignorant and be stupid when they hear somebody's name.
01:36Well, the new person who's out there handling the medical situations is a little bit more
01:42cautious than other people like to take their time with things.
01:45As he said, you have to be ready for September, not August.
01:48And I kind of buy into that, you know, and I know a lot of people want it.
01:53We and I, if you listen to me when I talk, I am different when I talk about veterans than
01:58I am when I talk about young guys, veteran guys that have been around this league long
02:03enough, they know how to get themselves ready.
02:06The young guys have to learn how to perform at this level because it's way longer than
02:11it was in college.
02:12So I am looking at the fact that based off of him saying it yesterday, I'm expecting a
02:19lot of people to be ready to go come next week.
02:22I'm expecting the guys be ready to hit the ground running next week.
02:26But you listen from Nick Allegretti.
02:28I know a lot of people want to say, oh, that guy, he saw if he don't want to play.
02:31But you know what?
02:32Athletes want to play.
02:34That's what they've been doing all their life.
02:35They want to go out there and perform.
02:37But as John Thompson always say, I'd rather calm a fool than resurrect the corpse.
02:42So sometimes you have to put that rein and pull it and slow them the hell down.
02:46Because if you look at some of the best horses out there, that horse will run until it just
02:53falls completely out.
02:54It's for the jockey to pull them back a little bit.
02:57You know, to make sure that they don't exert all of it immediately.
03:00And I think that's what you have to do with some of these athletes.
03:03Nick Allegretti already proved to me, and I think to everybody else around football, he
03:08will perform when hurt.
03:10And if it means something, I think if it meant something that Dan, and Dan Quinn mentioned
03:15this the other day, that if this was a regular season game, it was in during the season, a
03:20lot of those guys would have played.
03:21I totally believe that.
03:22But why push them in preseason when everybody that's calling us mad right now told me that
03:29it doesn't count anyway?
03:30It doesn't matter.
03:32So having them wait.
03:34Now, I understand you want to see where they are.
03:37You want to see how they're performing.
03:39But you're not going to see that.
03:41If they were all out there, they are giving you the great, what's the blue bell ice cream?
03:47The vanilla, okay, the golden vanilla version of everything, offensively and defensively.
03:54We saw a little bit of what Durante Jones wants to do against Detroit.
03:59And when they were doing the things they're trying to do, it was turnover, turnover.
04:04And that just gave me a little glimpse of what could be.
04:07But then they went right back to, let's just line up in an old regular defense and just
04:14sit there and we're going to play man to man.
04:17And when we were going against guys, they had their tools when we had our threes.
04:20When we put out ones and they had their ones, you know, they got us on defense against the
04:25Detroit.
04:26They had already made the mindset, we're going to run one series no matter what happens
04:30with Jayden.
04:31And I understand it because if you told the guys that go in one series, that's in their
04:36mindset.
04:37I'm not putting you back out there because if somebody, everyone that wanted him to go back
04:42out there, if he went back out there and got hurt, nobody.
04:44Nobody's going to say, Oh, it's okay.
04:46We wanted to see him.
04:47They'll be saying fire dead Quinn right now, get him out of here.
04:50But what they have done this year, I don't understand it totally myself, but I have to
04:56listen to the people.
04:57If it's the medical people are saying, let's be a little bit more cautious.
04:59I don't think I'm going to listen to that.
05:01And I think if anybody out there really, really a concern, let's think about it.
05:06I've been out at practice.
05:07I think it was more intense.
05:09I think they did a lot of good stuff out there.
05:11But to think that I know something or JP knows something or John Karm or Nikki, they don't
05:18know anything more than you do because what we saw is the same damn thing you saw.
05:24What we see right now, they let us see warmups and then they say, bye-bye.
05:29They get you off the field.
05:30So there are a lot of things out there that's going to be happening that I have not seen.
05:35A lot of things that Jay hasn't seen.
05:37A lot of things that all of these people that were sitting these, taking these clips and
05:42sending it out, they don't know what the hell that is.
05:44And then they don't know the other stuff that's coming anyway.
05:46But I think it's going to be a little bit different.
05:49We'll go a little bit later on.
05:50We'll be talking about Ben Sennett, talking about how this offense is different.
05:53And he said some words that I know a lot of people are going to lose their mind.
05:57They're going to get said, well, why did he say it like that?
06:00Because if you look at the old one, it kind of resembles what just colleges run.
06:06But if you look at the NFL, the NFL has totally copied what colleges do.
06:11And they all look the same in the shotgun.
06:13But I think when you start getting under that center and you're under that center a little
06:17bit more often, that's what they used to call pro-style defenses.
06:21When that pro-style defense, I mean pro-style offenses, when the pros get in there, they
06:26get under the center.
06:28You normally had a fullback and a tailback back there.
06:30I just think the whole thing about that situation is when you turn your back, the play-action
06:35thing is what makes it work.
06:36I read a story one day with Kirk Cousins.
06:39He went there and he was talking to his coaches when he was in Minnesota.
06:42He wanted to run more play-action because Kirk realized when he just dropped straight back,
06:48his percentage completion was about 50-something, and he had about 4 to 5 yards per reception.
06:55When he ran play-action, it went up 70-plus, and he had 9 to 10 yards per reception.
07:02So that tells you how it can affect people.
07:05When you're sitting there and you put the ball out in front of you as a quarterback, you're
07:09not fooling no linebacker.
07:10You're not fooling the secondary.
07:11But when you turn your back, it changes things up.
07:14So we'll get into all that stuff, but I'm sure as we open up phones later on, we're going
07:18to have people discussing what Nick Allegretti said.
07:21And I would just say this.
07:23You have a right to question where they are, what's happening.
07:28But I don't see why on earth people are so damn mad right now and upset when we haven't
07:33played one damn down of football.
07:37That actually counts.
07:38Now, if they came out in the first game and they were flat as they were in that game against
07:45Baltimore, I'll be pissed because now it counts.
07:49And I'm not going to be just pissed at a coach.
07:52I'm going to be pissed at the players because it matters to them too.
07:55It should.
07:56I don't need, for 14 years, hell, let's go before that.
08:00From the moment I started playing football in the sixth grade, I never needed nobody to
08:04motivate me.
08:05You know what my motivation was?
08:07Whoever was in a different color uniform on the other side of the ball, I wanted to bust
08:11his ass.
08:12Point blank.
08:13I wanted to beat him.
08:15Yes, in the sixth grade, I was thinking exactly like that because I grew up with Blanche Mitchell
08:19Sr.
08:19And my dad had a military mindset and that's the way I lived.
08:22That's the way I was going for it.
08:24So I never needed a coach.
08:26I know people talk about this coach is fired, that coach is fired.
08:28I basically didn't like hearing coaches that were rah, rah, rah all the time.
08:32Shut the hell up.
08:33You don't know, you know, because I, if I got to get you to motivate me to go play, I'm
08:38in the wrong business.
08:39So every guy on this team, I hope now they're saying, okay, we've gotten through the easy
08:45part of it.
08:46Now it's time to hunk it down.
08:49Sacrifice.
08:50Going home and doing, studying a little bit.
08:53You might see something that tips off what the defense is trying to do.
08:56Somebody on defense might see what they're, I mean, on defense, I see what their offense
09:01is trying to do.
09:01There are all types of things that you can figure out.
09:04So everybody now, this is about football.
09:07I go back to 1990 and I know I just saw a thing pop up that they're going to be
09:12honoring
09:12Sonny Jurgensen and also Monty Coleman at the first game, the first home opener, which
09:17we're going to be playing again.
09:18I mean, at home opener, we'll be playing against Seattle.
09:20And I remember Monty Coleman telling me, hey man, sacrifice everything right now and
09:25you're going to be able to talk about this the rest of your life.
09:28That was our Super Bowl year.
09:30Sacrifice now.
09:32Keep winning.
09:33I'll focus on one game.
09:34Every little thing that man told me stuck with me.
09:38And I still, here I am in 2026.
09:41We won a Super Bowl in 1992 and we can still live off of that and talk about it because
09:47everything was about football.
09:50And I hope every player on this football team right now is thinking the exact same way.
09:55And I hope fans also, let's say, look, I know fans, you all feel like you're a part
10:00of it.
10:01Don't just be the part of it where we become like society where all we do is bicker, complain,
10:09want to be the negative nanny.
10:10No, let's support sometimes because I guarantee you if your boss at your job is always negative
10:17to you, you are not getting to your full potential.
10:20But if they're praising you and telling you how good you've done, you feel good about
10:25that.
10:25You come into work with your chest out.
10:27You're happy as hell and you want to perform.
10:30Let's not allow ourselves to be like just what regular people do.
10:34Regular people want to also just agitate, be mad because you know what?
10:38They can't do it themselves.
10:39So this team is going to need some support and we're going to also need them to give us a
10:44little support.
10:45Win some game.
10:46We'll support you even more, but I don't want to see what I saw against Baltimore.
10:52I'm on everybody's side with that.
10:54I don't think ever anybody should step on a football field and bring no energy like I
11:00saw.
11:01It absolutely pissed me off.
11:03I was in the boot with John Riggins.
11:05He was upset as well because that is something right there you could bring and you could bring
11:09your energy.
11:10You can bring effort.
11:12You might not perform at the level you want to, but you could bring that and once it starts
11:16up, you know, you figure it out.
11:18But if you are a true competitor and if somebody is bringing a little bit more than you, you
11:22know what?
11:22You try to match it.
11:23You try to bring it up, but I am not going to be mad at what happened back then.
11:28And JP is saying is, let's not be pre-mad.
11:31I've been living by it.
11:33I'm not pre-mad.
11:34I want the season now to start because as I stated on Friday night, if you're not performing
11:41once the season starts, then I have the right to complain about whatever I choose to complain
11:46about.
11:47So, you know, we'll see it at that point.
11:48So, hey.
