Hiya Toys Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire Exquisite Basic Godzilla Evolved Figure Review

00:03Here's your look at new Haya Toys, Godzilla X-Kong, The New Empire, Exquisite Basic, Evolved Godzilla.
00:20Introducing the latest to the MonsterVerse, the evolved version of Godzilla from Godzilla X-Kong, The New Empire.
00:26Now available in the Exquisite Basic series by Haya Toys.
00:29In the new installment, Godzilla faces off against Kong in a colossal confrontation, delving into the origins of the Titans.
00:36Standing at 7 inches tall, this brand new Godzilla-evolved action figure captures the creature's dorsal fins as they absorb energy and change color.
00:44With multiple points throughout the body's design, including an articulated tail, the figure offers a wide range of articulation for dynamic posing and display, making it a must-have for any kaiju fan's collection.
00:55I don't really care what they say, I think a king can easily pull off pink.
00:59Before we get a closer look at the evolved state of Godzilla from Godzilla X-Kong, The New Empire.
01:04Backing it up just a bit, I'd like to thank first the folks over at Haya Toys that did provide this sample.
01:09If you guys maybe perhaps held off getting the original New Empire, Exquisite Basic Godzilla, because specifically he didn't have the pink dorsal fins,
01:16just know that this guy's slated to drop in July 2025 for the asking price online of $50.99.
01:24One may also look at this Godzilla and just make the assumption as well that just the pink dorsal fins are the only cosmetic change.
01:32I've got to tell you, though, they're using a brand new body, and the body that they're using is smaller than the original Godzilla.
01:39We're going to talk more about that in a moment.
01:40But first, though, of course, we're also going to take the tape measure.
01:42I want to give you guys some measurements going.
01:44So we're going to first go from the front of its snout to the end of its tail.
01:48And then just after that, we're going to go from the bottom of his feet to the top of its spike.
01:51In that order, Godzilla from The New Empire is going to be about 13 inches in length.
01:57Now, you could, granted, also have him on his hind legs and the tail a little bit more straighter.
02:01But we're going to go at least with that.
02:03That's going to translate to a figure that's about 30 centimeters long.
02:06For its height, though, and to the highest spike, which I guess would be this one right here,
02:11Godzilla, in fact, is going to stand at 6 3⁄4 of an inch, or roughly about 17 centimeters tall.
02:18Now, keeping in mind, as I bring in this Godzilla, this is the same Godzilla from also Hyatt Toys.
02:23It was also from Godzilla X-Kong, The New Empire, and this is his non-evolved state.
02:29It's a different figure, which is really surprising to me.
02:32I could understand that maybe his spikes do change as he evolves,
02:37but I would think that the body of him would stay the same.
02:39Looking online, just maybe making the assumption as well that maybe he's a little bit smaller
02:44by the time that this movie comes around.
02:47He's actually still 393 feet or 120 meters,
02:50so he doesn't change at all from the time when he first battles King Kong
02:54to now the subsequent sequel.
02:56This probably is not the easiest way to kind of gauge.
02:59You probably can maybe, if anything, see that the original Godzilla was a little longer in the tail.
03:03But also, too, when we spin this around, there is a considerable size difference.
03:08Now, again, he's evolving, but I can't think that that's going to also change the size of the figure's body.
03:14And being that they're also coming from the exact same movie,
03:16I would think that they should be the same size.
03:19Parting ways in the middle, though, let's also bring in King Kong.
03:22Now, we don't actually have ourselves yet a New Empire King Kong.
03:26They have recently, though, announced that they are going to be doing a listing for New Empire King Kong.
03:30But in the meantime, this is the one I've been kind of using as my stand-in for comparisons.
03:35I think, from a sizing, he works better with the original Godzilla X-Kong, the New Empire King Kong.
03:41I don't think he works necessarily as well with the evolved state.
03:44It draws more attention to the fact that the King of Monsters is considerably smaller this time.
03:48Handing off those figures now to a pair of hands.
03:51Godzilla, as usually be the case with exquisite basic figures,
03:53you get yourself a pair of swappable hands.
03:56Now, these hands are kind of more closer in grips.
03:58These can then be swapped out.
03:59You basically just take the hands that he has on the ends of his forearms.
04:02Generally, though, I prefer to have the relaxed hands that he already starts out the packaging with.
04:06While I do, again, appreciate the fact that they include hands like this,
04:09I honestly feel like, though, use the plastic instead and give him like an atomic blast.
04:14Something that could be attached on the inside of his mouth.
04:17Being that he is also smaller, whether it be material or whether it be the budgeting reasons behind that,
04:21just then use maybe the plastic for hands instead of for something else.
04:25Picking up, though, now Godzilla and getting a closer look at him,
04:29I did obviously want to bring back in.
04:30And I did stress again, like this isn't a Godzilla from Godzilla vs. Kong,
04:35nor is this a Godzilla from King of the Monsters.
04:37Literally, this came from the Godzilla x Kong New Empire.
04:40So it would be probably the easiest thing to match apples to apples, oranges to oranges,
04:45or in this case, kaiju to kaiju.
04:47The thing that's really the most different is between the two,
04:50this just has a much smaller body.
04:52And maybe it is the case that as he evolves, he gets a little bit leaner in frame.
04:56But I could certainly, though, understand if he gets a little bit leaner.
05:00He shouldn't, though, change his entire mass.
05:03The platelets, the scales that he has sticking out the tops of his spine,
05:07are clearly a little bit differently designed as well.
05:09They don't seem as big, though, as nasty as the original design for Godzilla.
05:14They seem like they're a little tamer.
05:15They're still jagged, don't get me wrong.
05:17But they don't seem nearly the size, though, of the original King of the Monsters from the same movie.
05:22I'm going to move this guy out of the way,
05:23and we're going to probably be bringing him back, though, in a second.
05:26Not only is this guy treated to pink dorsal fins,
05:29but if you can see real closely,
05:31he actually has tiny little pink spikes on the sides of his body.
05:34He also has these spikes sticking out from his forearms.
05:37So there's a nice little bit of extra color there.
05:39I can understand, though, why people probably passed on getting the original,
05:43exquisite, basic, non-evolved Godzilla,
05:45probably just with the assumption that
05:47Haya will eventually get around to doing the evolved state.
05:50I'm just going to hold off getting him then.
05:52If I wasn't being provided this sample, for example,
05:55I probably would have myself held off getting this guy
05:58in favor of one that looked a little bit more like he does in the movie.
06:02That said, though,
06:03I am disappointed, though, that the body is notably smaller.
06:06The mouth still does open and close.
06:08We can get in there and open it up.
06:09You can see some nice use of pinks on the insides of his mouth.
06:12They've also painted the tongue pink, the tongue pink,
06:16bringing back in also the original Godzilla.
06:18I mean, I don't think that the faces are that much different.
06:21I know there is some additional sculpting that they would have done.
06:24They have not just borrowed over, I'm sure, the exact same body.
06:28But the coloring does add a little more brightness to Godzilla's face.
06:32In both cases, though, it's really hard, though, to make out his eyes.
06:34But I do think, though, that the pink goes a long way
06:37just to bring some color necessary to an otherwise all dark gray plastic.
06:41His eyes, yes, are very small.
06:44Hard to probably make out.
06:45But I think they've done a nice job.
06:47If you can find them, at least, they're right there.
06:49Nice job of painting them overall.
06:51The teeth, the top, and the bottom are painted well, too.
06:53But I don't think it's a bad head sculpt at all.
06:56I don't think that high has ever really made a miss
06:58when it comes to Godzilla's face.
07:00Again, when you get to the body,
07:02this is kind of really where everything gets shrunk down in size.
07:04I really would be curious to know why they made the body considerably smaller.
07:09If anybody happens to know whether he does maybe shrink in size as he evolves,
07:13I would think, though, that the body would probably stay the same.
07:16The spikes is one thing that does drastically change
07:18between the two exquisite basic releases.
07:21Now you get all this nice frosting of pink.
07:23It starts generally quite dark as it gets closer to his body.
07:27As it gets further away from his body, though,
07:28you can see it gets a much lighter, kind of whitish pink.
07:31All of these platelets, these spikes, by the way, are soft plastic.
07:35Some of them do have, as you can see right here,
07:38there's one right in the middle that has a separate ball joint.
07:43Everything else basically around it can move freely.
07:46Well, for the most part, just because that's going to kind of get in the way.
07:49But this one spike right here is actually on a separate joint.
07:53Looking at this Godzilla,
07:54that's one thing that this release of Godzilla never had.
07:57The spikes didn't have any additional posability.
07:59There was nothing really at all that you could move to them.
08:02They moved as the rest of the figure moved,
08:04as you moved the torso around.
08:06So that's one thing that also this one does bring to the table.
08:09This additional posability point in this one spike.
08:12All the other spikes are basically just, you know,
08:14molded to the rest of his body.
08:16Again, the hands and the rest of the body,
08:18for the most part, somewhat the same in sculpt.
08:22Got some nice additional sculpting that they've added.
08:24As the plates get larger,
08:25get some scaling that's a little bit large to the top.
08:27A little more smoother as you get to the undercarriage of the,
08:30I was going to say the dinosaur of Godzilla.
08:33The feet are sculpted well too.
08:35Again, like I have no real issues with the figure's body as a whole.
08:38I just think though it's strange
08:40that they made it a little bit smaller than the original.
08:44For the figures part, by the way, the articulation,
08:47for the most part,
08:48if you were to count up all the things
08:49that the original Godzilla would have had,
08:51this one does about the same,
08:53in addition to having that one additional joint right here.
08:55It almost really feels like he'd be able to pull this out.
08:58I'm just going to kind of leave it be though.
09:00But I guess this is just some additional posability
09:02that they chose to add to the figure's body.
09:04For though, the things that are movable on Godzilla.
09:08I mean, we've already established the fact
09:09that his mouth does open and close.
09:10So there's that.
09:12The head does move on its own.
09:13So there's a bowl joint there.
09:14There's a bowl joint in his neck.
09:16Now this may seem repetitive, obviously,
09:17because we're going to have to start from the bottom
09:19or start from the top and work our way to the bottom.
09:21So there's a joint right here and here.
09:24There's enough mobility that, yeah,
09:26you can move around his head fairly well
09:29and you can get some good poses out of it.
09:31The arms also do pretty much the same.
09:34There's ball joints there.
09:34So you can rotate them all the way around.
09:36You can hinge them out.
09:38So that's about as far as it would go
09:39from this range to this range.
09:41The figure does also have a hinge in his elbow here
09:44and a secondary hinge right here in his forearm.
09:47So technically he does have a double hinge.
09:49The original Godzilla, if we looked at this,
09:51so again, like this guy has two,
09:54the first exquisite basic Godzilla from the same film
09:57had only just a single hinge in the forearm.
09:59So that's all you could really bend it right there.
10:01So he does have some additional levels of posability.
10:05He does also have it here in the abdomen
10:07or in the top of the torso.
10:08So that moves independently.
10:10But also too, that's one thing
10:12that this figure does benefit from.
10:14How much more range that he has
10:16when it comes to his bend here.
10:17If we were to put this guy down,
10:18I'll just bring back in the original Godzilla.
10:21There's not really much at all you could really do.
10:23I mean, once you get past the point of the neck,
10:25that's the amount of posability they had in his neck,
10:28but then immediately went to a top torso.
10:31And all the torso could really do was this.
10:33I mean, you could turn it just a little bit,
10:35twist it back and forth and move it up and down.
10:37So it does have, while it has a smaller frame,
10:41it has a whole lot more posability at his possession.
10:44So not only can you move it up and down,
10:46you can rock it back and forth
10:47and you can somewhat turn it all the way around.
10:50In addition to that, we've already looked at the fact
10:52that this one fin does have its own independent posability.
10:55The legs do hinge forward and back.
10:57You can hinge them out a lot more than the original release.
11:01He does also have a double hinge in the knee.
11:03Now, the first Godzilla we looked at from New Empire
11:05did also have a double hinge in the knee.
11:07So he's not doing anything new in that regard.
11:10The lower leg does rotate just a little bit.
11:12He's got a nice ankle pivot up and down,
11:14ankle rocker up and down that way.
11:16And then when we get to the tail, it's somewhat the same.
11:18So you got several individual linklets
11:22where all of them attach by a ball joint next to it.
11:25So there's one joint here, here.
11:28And as we move further down,
11:29basically you can see like all the parts
11:31that are swatted here have their own independent posability.
11:35So the tail does, I mean, you could bend the tail around almost,
11:39I wouldn't say like a full rotation,
11:41but you'd be able to bend it in quite a lot more
11:43than the original Godzilla.
11:45So the question then gets asked,
11:47I mean, yes, he is a smaller figure,
11:49but in the end though,
11:50he does have some additional posabilities
11:51that the original Godzilla from King of,
11:54well, not King of the Monsters, from New Empire
11:55didn't have in the first place.
11:57That maybe could be one of the reasons
11:59why they had to shrink the figure down.
12:01Factoring in, of course,
12:02the budget of having some additional posability.
12:04I mean, the biggest one being the fact
12:06that he does have now this in his torso,
12:09where he never had that before.
12:11That could then be one of the reasons
12:13why they had to shrink the size of the figure
12:15to then factor in,
12:16because he's still selling for around $50.
12:19From what I remember,
12:20the original exquisite basic Godzilla
12:21from the same film sold for around that same price.
12:24In order for maybe them to incorporate
12:27now new levels of posability,
12:29some additional articulation points
12:30that the figure never had in the first place,
12:32could be one of the reasons
12:33why they made him a little bit smaller in size.
12:36He is smaller,
12:37but he is more posable
12:38than the exquisite basic Godzilla we got before.
12:41It isn't just cosmetic changes.
12:43So if you have been on the fence
12:45and you thought to yourself,
12:45well, you know,
12:46I already have the King of the Monsters Godzilla.
12:48Then I had the one released
12:49for Godzilla X Kong,
12:50Godzilla versus Kong.
12:52I might just hold off
12:53and get the one
12:54when we eventually get the pink dorsal fins.
12:56It isn't just, again,
12:57cosmetic changes that differ
12:59between these two,
13:00again, I want to say dinosaurs
13:01because they both start with D.
13:03The thing that's really different, though,
13:04between the two Titans
13:05isn't just, again, cosmetic changes,
13:08but almost like they went in
13:09and overhauled the release of Godzilla altogether,
13:12where there's a lot new things
13:14added to this figure
13:15that wasn't on the exquisite basic figure before.
13:18If you're wondering, by the way,
13:18why that one dorsal fin
13:20has to have its own posability,
13:22I think it has a lot more to do with the fact
13:24that you can hinge it back
13:25and out of the way,
13:27that when it comes to rotating his torso,
13:29it's not going to be clipping
13:30any of the spikes around it.
13:32That is a clever use
13:34of additional posability.
13:35Haya looked at that as a problem
13:37and realized we need to fix it
13:39with figures moving forward
13:40in the same way
13:41that the King of the Monsters
13:42evolves in the movie.
13:43This, too, is also an evolved version
13:46of Godzilla
13:46from the other exquisite basics
13:48we've gotten before,
13:49by now incorporating
13:51much appreciated double hinges
13:53in his elbows,
13:54now more mobility
13:55in the top of his torso,
13:56and some additional posability
13:58in its head and in its neck.
14:00While it is, yes,
14:01a smaller Godzilla,
14:03I think it's a better looking one
14:04than we've got
14:05with the basic before.
14:07Yes, I know
14:07the exquisite basic
14:08of Godzilla X-Kong
14:09The New Empire
14:10already exists,
14:11but for those that maybe
14:12held off and thought,
14:13you know, eventually,
14:14we know that Haya
14:15will eventually release
14:16one that has the pink spikes.
14:18I think for those
14:19that held off
14:20getting the original
14:20exquisite basic
14:21will be rewarded
14:22with a better figure
14:23that's going to pose
14:24better on your shelf.
