00:00Esta es la historia de la historia de la historia.
00:54¡Gracias!
01:00The host country, Mongolia, and the United Nations have appealed to 197 delegations gathered here in Ulan Bator
01:06to use more than 400 scheduled events to find really tangible solutions for land degradation
01:11because recent wildfires and heatwaves around the world show us that the climate change is accelerating.
01:18COP17 set sights on action plans for land restoration and finding funds to support them,
01:23but also raising awareness that many acute problems like migrations are actually the result of land degradation.
01:30Once land is degraded, you will not be able to plant, and you will have both food and water security,
01:36but you will have also migration and displacement.
01:39So here the people are not given the choice whether they're moving from their land, yes or no,
01:44but they don't have what to sustain their livelihood and what to make it resilient.
01:49The convention estimates that inaction on land costs the world almost $900 billion a year,
01:55while investment in healthy land could generate up to $1.8 trillion through food production, water provision, and carbon storing.
02:02Yet, the investment so far remains modest.
02:05And if you look at how much money goes into artificial intelligence, for that matter,
02:10it is the same amount that goes into climate financing, $2 trillion a year.
02:15But when you double-click on climate financing, less than 3% goes to land and water.
02:22It is way underinvested.
02:24And here this white paper actually puts forward the reasons why businesses can actually invest into soil and water,
02:31but you bring returns.
02:32Every dollar invested into soil will give you at least $4 to $30 in exchange.
02:37The Ministerial Dialogue on Innovative Financial Mechanisms brought together some of the large financial institutions,
02:44such as the World Bank Group, Development Banks of Asia, Africa, the Islamic World, European Investment Bank, GEF, and the
02:51Climate Fund.
02:52They announced $1.3 billion of financing for land restoration and drought resilience across 23 countries on five continents.
03:00Several countries, including host Mongolia, announced new platforms for attracting private investment into land.
03:07$1.3 billion plantation initiative has been done by the Mongolian president, and it is really successfully going on.
03:16Offering all these corporates and companies that you can invest like 1% of your taxable income
03:23for these rangelands or the green transition, you know, for the countries.
03:28And you can decide and you can implement the project by yourself, not involved from the government.
03:36Even if COPs, including this one, fall short of reaching a legally binding global plans,
03:40they are considered to be successful as they bring countries to present national agendas and make pledges.
03:46In Riyadh, we have 35 initiatives and the Riyadh Action Agenda.
03:50And we continued after that in 2025, in 2026, and we came here to Mongolia.
03:56And now we have 200, or to be exact, 198 initiatives under Riyadh Action Agenda.
04:04During 12 days in Ulaanbaatar, alliances were forged, like the one between China and the League of Arab States,
04:10who made a joint five-year plan of cooperation to restore land.
04:15Countries shared experience in fighting desertification.
04:34In the green zone of COP17, open to the general public, policy met real life.
04:44The people could come, meet experts, scientists, scholars, city planners, even school projects,
04:50and learn how desertification influences their lives.
04:53Also, get a glimpse of Mongolian rich culture and tradition.
