00:24From inside Tropicana Field here in Tampa Bay,
00:27Interleague Baseball on MLB The Show.
00:31It's the New York Mets taking on the Tampa Bay Rays.
00:36All right, we'll be back to get this one started after this.
00:43And on the mound for Tampa Bay in this one, Drew Rasmussen.
00:48What's the scouting report on him?
00:50Boog, this guy usually turns in a very good outing.
00:53His teammates really enjoy it when he's on the mound.
00:55Everyone seems to be loose, which can help the offense be a bit more dangerous.
01:00So if you look at the opposing lineup, they're hoping he doesn't just settle in.
01:04They want to make this an uncomfortable start from the beginning.
01:07Francisco Lindor leading things off and takes a strike.
01:12Lindor went deep in his most recent game.
01:21Knocks that one away, and we'll do it again.
01:24That wasn't an easy pitch to hit.
01:25It's much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that's not what that pitch was.
01:30Foul ball, it stays nothing in two.
01:37Runs it up to 96 to record the punch out.
01:41Let's take a peek at the men's lineup here.
01:44With an excellent arm on the mound, Singy, this won't be easy.
01:48They'll need to take advantage of the opportunities that they do have.
01:51You're right about that, Boog.
01:52Odds are they won't have many chances against this guy,
01:55but if they can rattle him out of the gates, they'll have a shot.
01:58If not, look out.
01:59It might be a long day for this offense.
02:04Hard ground ball, base knock.
02:13That in third, second baseman, Ronnie Mauricio.
02:16Now it's the second baseman, Ronnie Mauricio.
02:23Foul ball there.
02:34Next pitch, misses inside.
02:37And the count even one and one.
02:39Man at first, one away.
02:47In the air, right field, pretty well struck.
02:49That's got a chance.
02:51And it's caught just in front of the wall.
02:58Again, for the designated hitter, Marcus Simian.
03:10Now what's fouled off.
03:16The 0-1.
03:24This one belted, deep left field, on its way, gone!
03:33Marcus Simeon goes deep, his 19th home run of the year, and the Mets on the board first, it's 2
03:41-0.
03:42You can't ask for a better start than hitting a home run, and you're first at bat to give your
03:47team the lead.
03:48That's as big as it gets right there. You take advantage of a mistake, that is an ultimate, here it
03:54is, watch it, I'm gonna jog around the bases.
04:03So two down, Brett Beatty up now for the Mets. Hammer down the right side, the foul.
04:15Heal one, and there's the strike.
04:28Ball one!
04:35Got him swinging!
04:39The Mets had two runs on this blast. It's now a 2-0 ball game. Back after this, on the
04:47show.
04:52Back now at the chop for the bottom of the first, and on the hill in this one, Freddie Peralta.
04:58And Singy, that may be his name, but the strikeout is his game.
05:03Well, Boog, I can tell you've been working on that one, but yes, you are right.
05:06This guy's strikeout per nine, over 11. I mean, that's just getting it done.
05:11There are a lot of strikeouts in that other lineup, and when you look at what he's able to do,
05:16man, it's going to be a fun one to watch today.
05:24Way high.
05:33Misses with the 2-0, and he's fired three straight outside the strike zone.
05:46Drilled out towards left center field. That's well struck. Back there. Out of here!
05:53He'll take a jog around the bases. His 12th of the season, and they're on the scoreboard. It's 2-1.
06:09Knew what pitch he wanted to hit, spit on some other pitches in this. It bad, was very patient, and
06:15it paid off.
06:22Now the number two hitter, Jonathan Aranda, comes in working with the sixth best average in the AL.
06:30And immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter.
06:33Always exciting to see a leadoff home run, and an inning kind of gets the offense fired up, and you
06:38start to expect a big inning.
06:42The 0-1.
06:44With the big bats coming up, and a home run already surrendered, he's really going to have to execute against
06:50these next couple of batters.
06:56That clips the corner.
06:57See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone, since
07:01you're heading to count 1-2.
07:03Don't miss in the zone, because that's where you can get hurt.
07:10Nobody on, nobody out with a run in here in the rubber match of this three-game series.
07:19On the ground, and that chance handled.
07:23Tosses to first, and that's the first out. Nice recovery after giving up the homer.
07:28All right, let's take a look at the Rays lineup.
07:31Down to the eighth spot, a guy that's trying to get back on track at the plate, Hunter Faduccia.
07:36Well, right-handed pitching has been a real challenge for him so far this season.
07:39You know, he's just not showing much consistency in those at-bats.
07:43Clearly, he's getting a shot to change that narrative in this one.
07:46Manager has some confidence that he can get it done.
07:48I'll be looking to see if he can put some good at-bats together to get some confidence going.
08:08One out, base is empty, and a run in here in the third and final game of the series.
08:16That's a good miss off the inside part of the plate.
08:18He'd much rather miss there than out over the plate where this guy could do some real damage.
08:27Drilled in the air, high and deep right field.
08:31That's back there!
08:32To the warning track, makes the catch!
08:37Ready for the designated hitter, Yandy Diaz!
08:43Yandy Diaz now.
08:53That's a strike, and it's all and one.
09:04Right through there for a strike.
09:17Swings and misses, struck him out.
09:21Rays with a solo shot to trim the lead.
09:24We go on to inning number two.
09:26You're watching Tampa Bay Rays baseball on the show, Florida.
09:33We move ahead to the top of the second now.
09:36Here's the catcher for the Mets, Francisco Alvarez.
09:41And that one, cutting but missing down low.
09:47Oh!
09:49Clyde Washington doing the umpiring behind the dish in this one.
09:53Sometimes considered a bit of a pitcher's umpire singing.
09:56He likes the low ball, which traditionally favors pitching.
09:59But you know, hitters today are pretty good at dropping their barrel down.
10:02So we'll see how it goes in this one.
10:08Bounce to the left side.
10:10Williams.
10:12On to first.
10:14One out in the second.
10:16Batting seventh.
10:17Third baseman, Beau Pichette.
10:28And it skips in the dirt.
10:36Popped foul out of play off to the right.
10:43So a foul ball makes it one and two.
10:54Stays alive.
11:04Well, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds
11:10out the at-bat.
11:10I'm sure there's some times where a pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to
11:15waste six or seven pitches or one hitter.
11:17That cutter right there had just enough movement on it to get the swing and miss.
11:21It wasn't a great location by any means.
11:23That's typically a spot that hitters can handle.
11:25So I'd say he fooled them with just enough of that late action.
11:33Check swing and he went.
11:35No balls, two strikes.
11:42Caminero.
11:44And the Mets go one, two, three.
11:48It's the Mets two.
11:50The Rays one.
11:51Guys in our lives.
11:52I'm a sponsor.
11:53How's it?
11:55Bottom half of the number two and stepping in for the Rays.
11:59Victor Mesa, Jr.
12:01Victor Mesa, Jr.
12:09Oh, that's low.
12:19No, that pitch not even close.
12:21A 2-0 count now.
12:22He can't be over-aggressive.
12:24He's got to make sure that pitch is right on a tee for him.
12:32And that one is lifted in the air.
12:34On the move.
12:36Pulls it down, and he makes the catch.
12:38That is Hicks.
12:39Center fielder, Cedric Mullins.
12:56Mullins working for some struggles lately.
13:05In the air, right field.
13:09And there's two down.
13:12Batting seven.
13:13Second baseman, Hesung Kim.
13:16Now, Hesung Kim.
13:18Singing he's never finished the season with more stolen bases in his entire career.
13:28Just look at his recent stretch of games.
13:30He's done a good job of getting hits with runners in scoring position.
13:34This guy's delivering hits when his team needs him most.
13:39Two down.
13:40Nobody on.
13:41Right through there for a strike.
13:43A 2-0 count.
13:44Both pitches on the inside part of the plate.
13:46Hitter is thinking, I don't want to get beat here.
13:48This is a good time for something off-speed away.
13:520-2 now.
13:54Battling here as he fouls it away.
14:08Out towards right center field.
14:10Taylor on the move to the alley.
14:12And that is that.
14:15Nothing doing for the offense that time.
14:17We play two full.
14:18It's the Mets 2.
14:20The Rays 1.
14:23Back now in Tampa Bay.
14:25New inning getting started.
14:26Tyrone Taylor up now for the Mets.
14:41Field two.
14:43And a foul ball.
14:44He stays alive.
14:46Wow, he got away with a mistake right there.
14:49Set down on strikes.
14:52And that's four strikeouts.
14:57Up next for the Mets, shortstop Francisco Lindor.
15:02Foul ball.
15:09And there's a foul ball.
15:17The 0-2.
15:19Keeps the at-bat going with a foul ball.
15:25Ball.
15:31Swing and a ball line to center.
15:33Makes the catch for the second out.
15:36That swing right there tells me he's seeing the ball pretty well.
15:39I know it didn't produce a hit, but he made solid contact.
15:42And that's all you're looking to do any time you're at the plate.
15:45Here's Juan Soto.
15:49And first offering is fouled off.
15:53Two down.
15:54Nobody on.
15:55Hit on the ground to the right side.
15:57And that's just foul.
16:03Here's the 0-2.
16:05Right through there.
16:06Got him.
16:07He picks up his fifth strikeout on the hill.
16:10And the Mets go down 1-2-3.
16:12But they still lead it 2-1.
16:18Back at the ballpark, and one of the things that's been happening lately,
16:21hot hitting, as we take a look at the numbers this month.
16:45On the ground right side, and it goes just foul.
16:56One-to-one.
17:08On a bounce right side, Mauricio gets it to first.
17:13One-go-on bottom of the third inning.
17:16Batting ninth, shortstop Carson Williams.
17:34Right.
17:36Got him.
17:46Yeah, he gets tied up right there.
17:49Talk about tying a guy up, that was ugly.
18:01Ground ball right side, it squirts through.
18:05And the tying run is on base.
18:10You got that front foot down and pitch recognition was on point.
18:14Pretty impressive for an 0-2 count.
18:20So up next, Johnny DeLuca, 1-for-1 so far today with a solo homer and his first hit-back.
18:27Just off the inside edge.
18:41Breaking ball and that got him.
18:43Up next for the race, first baseman, Jonathan Aranda.
18:57Ball one, no strikes.
19:00Close pitch there and he's kind of wondering where it missed.
19:03You know, getting a feel for each umpire strike zone is something that pitchers and hitters
19:08really have to think about and work on from game to game and sometimes from a bat to a bat.
19:13Here's a high chopper, spin throw, that's one, to first knot in time.
19:18Great effort there.
19:20For the race, third baseman, Junior Camonero.
19:24So digging in, Junior Camonero, fly to right his first time.
19:36Nice curveball for a strike.
19:40Runners on first and third, two away here in the last half of the third.
19:49Here's a swing and a drive left field and he knew it.
19:58His 39th home run of the season and it gives him the lead in the third.
20:03It's 4-2.
20:05That's a fun way to take the lead.
20:06Just hit one out of the park.
20:12Power versus power right there.
20:14Like two locomotives colliding.
20:16Who's going to win?
20:17But a really good job there by the hitter.
20:19Getting the top hand working.
20:21Powers that fastball out of here.
20:30That's the ball.
20:43Swing and a ball lifted to center field.
20:48Reaching for it.
20:49Makes the catch.
21:05Back here at Tropicana Field.
21:07Start of the fourth, Ronnie Mauricio.
21:09Stuff now for the Mets.
21:11That one catches the zone.
21:13Strike one.
21:15That clips the corner.
21:16Well, he's gotten ahead with two pitches down in the zone.
21:19He has plenty of options right here.
21:21He can go off.
21:22He can go away.
21:23He can add velocity.
21:24He can subtract.
21:25Pretty much textbook pitching for the three-pitch K right there.
21:28Jumped ahead 0-2 on two pitches he didn't want to go after at the plate.
21:32Then, knowing he's going to be a little more aggressive, trying to protect,
21:36he expands just out of the zone where he couldn't do anything with it.
21:39He gets the strikeout and keeps the pitches thrown to a minimum.
21:42Very nice.
21:44Up.
21:55Good job to fight that one off.
21:59The 1-2.
22:01In the air, right field.
22:04And there's two away.
22:10Up next for the Mets.
22:12So, up next for New York, Brent Beatty.
22:15He was a strikeout victim his first time.
22:27Two down, nobody on.
22:28Top half of inning number four.
22:30Got him swinging for the K.
22:32Picks up strikeout number seven.
22:35Down in order, go to Mets.
22:36Still down by a count of four to two.
22:41Back here in Tampa Bay, and stepping in for the Rays, Victor Mesa Jr.
22:46Victor Mesa Jr.
22:51Well, these Rays doing a good job of simply getting the bat on the ball in this game,
22:56and the numbers back that up.
22:58And here's a stat for you, Boog.
22:59They're making contact with more than 85% of the pitches that they're swinging at.
23:04It's pretty special stuff.
23:05Not so good if you're out there on the mound.
23:13Goes down looking for the strikeout.
23:16Frozen with the heater at the knees.
23:18Well, I think that's a case of overthinking right there.
23:21You got three straight fastballs looking in the 0-2 count just to pour it back.
23:34And that drops in for a strike.
23:36All those numbers mean this offense is really making the defense work
23:40by just putting the ball into play.
23:42Anything can happen at that point.
23:50No, that's a ball.
24:15This one in the air center field.
24:17Taylor coming on.
24:19Two down.
24:24Up next for the Rays, second baseman.
24:28Here's the second baseman, Hesun Kim.
24:30He's all for one.
24:48He's a bad ball hitter, so even if you get him to chase pitches outside the zone, he still might
24:53beat you.
24:54Not an easy out by any means.
24:58Two down.
24:59Nobody on.
25:00On the ground.
25:01Right side.
25:01Bayden.
25:02He takes it himself to the bag, and that'll do it.
25:06Rays go in order.
25:07One, two, three.
25:08As they can't add to their 4-2 lead.
25:14Back now in Tampa Bay, all set for the start of the inning, Francisco Alvarez.
25:18Alvarez up now for the Mets.
25:27Jack Swain called strike, and that's strike one.
25:33Foul off left side.
25:41Foul off the plate.
25:43They'll do it again.
25:46And the O2.
25:48Sets him down on strikes.
25:51Strikeout number eight.
25:52Probably showing some pretty dominating stuff out there in this one, not just in terms of swing and miss, but
25:58also in terms of command.
25:59So all the strikeouts, they kind of speak for themselves, but when you don't walk anyone, you're demonstrating that you
26:05have the confidence in your abilities to truly go right after opposing batters.
26:11Both.
26:22Lifted in the air.
26:23Left field.
26:24Pretty well struck.
26:27DeLuca takes it in for the out.
26:29Yeah, there's two away.
26:32And here's a look at how he's using his pitches in this one.
26:35Right fielder, A.J. Ewing.
26:40Now it's the right fielder.
26:41First time up, he grounded to third.
26:44And a foul ball.
26:53That one the other way.
26:55Fair ball.
26:57The round first and hustling for second.
27:00The relay throw.
27:01Not going to get him.
27:03He's in there.
27:04Up next for the Mets.
27:05Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way.
27:08Didn't get jumpy.
27:09Didn't try to pull the ball.
27:10He let it get deep.
27:11Took the barrel right to it.
27:13And then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit.
27:21Jack swing and he went.
27:23And that is strike one.
27:33Hammered on the line.
27:35Base hit.
27:36Headed for the plate.
27:38And now they trail by one.
27:41And now the tying run is in the scoring position.
27:46Well, back within one as he brings home the run.
27:49Chance now to even this game.
27:50If they can put a ball in play.
27:52Maybe an error.
27:53Maybe a hit.
27:58Back to the top of the Mets.
28:05And the batter will be the shortstop.
28:07Francisco Lindor.
28:09Right through there for a strike.
28:17Base hit in the center field.
28:19Runner around third on his way to the plate.
28:22He'll score and then tie it.
28:24Oh, here we are.
28:26Third time through the order.
28:27This is where we see the OPS jump off.
28:30Manager might have to go to the bullpen a little bit sooner than he anticipated.
28:40This one chopped on the ground but foul.
28:51Tied at four.
28:53There's a strike.
29:00To the right side.
29:01Got a big stop at first.
29:03Nicely done for the out.
29:06Excellent stop right there.
29:08He wants to take it himself.
29:10Waves the pitcher off and continues to run into the dugout.
29:18Bottom of the inning and now the catcher for the Rays.
29:21Hunter for Duccia.
29:29Peralta back to work.
29:30Oh, goodness.
29:31I think he just took the best pitch he's going to see in this at bat.
29:34You don't get many like that in that location.
29:37I don't know if you take that pitch against any pitcher out there in the mouth.
29:39Check swing.
29:41Did he go?
29:41Yes, he did.
29:42And it's nothing in two.
29:53There's a line drive to left field.
29:55Takes it in for the out.
29:59Up next for the Rays.
30:02Shortstop.
30:02Carson Williams.
30:08Carson Williams.
30:13No.
30:14Oh.
30:23breaking ball in there for a
30:24strike probably the best one we
30:27have seen throwing it where he
30:28wanted to have a nice tight spin
30:30to it and a teaser just off the
30:33edge of the plate there's a
30:35strike
30:58and it's fouled off they'll do it
31:00again
31:09here's a 2-2 that one missed really
31:12good take especially with two
31:14strikes
31:32so the Rays batting order turns over
31:36Johnny DeLuca the next to hit he's
31:38already homered in this game
31:48that's in there strike one action in
31:51the Mets bullpen Christian Scott
31:53getting ready to go Garrett also
31:55getting ready
32:10and a big swing and a miss really
32:13going after him here all fastballs to
32:16get ahead in the count
32:22go
32:23inside almost got him with a layoff that
32:25pitch down
32:34swings and misses struck him out went
32:37back to the fastball and it was
32:39effective
32:40bogey just ran out of patience there he
32:41took a couple of pitches to even that
32:44count off but two balls and two strikes
32:46but that time chased outside the zone
32:56go
33:09high fly ball lifted in the year right
33:12field
33:14he's got it and that'll do it one left
33:18for Tampa score remains tied at four
33:26back here at Tropicana field close game
33:29here and a chance now to look at a few
33:31highlights from this one
34:00digging in Ronnie Mauricio second
34:04basement Ronnie Mauricio
34:13now on the mound for the Rays Mason
34:16Engler and if you dig into his walk rate
34:19his numbers are really impressive he's
34:22really filled up the strike zone this
34:23season so these batters better be ready
34:25to swing the bats man I mean nice job
34:29just presenting it to be better than it
34:31actually was that's in there at the knees
34:33and it's strike two in the air left field
34:39down the line and that one is foul so
34:43we'll try it again
34:46tied at four foul ball still 0 and 2
34:58pulls the string with the changeup struck him out
35:02well-executed pitch on the outside part of
35:04the plate
35:17and that one fouled off
35:40ball tied up and we're the top half of the
35:55six three two now really close pitch down
35:58around the knees there and you could see
35:59him asking where it missed probably
36:02doesn't agree but it appears he's ready
36:03to move on to the next pitch foul ball and
36:07it remains a full cow
36:26payoff pitch
36:29bring him up says Cline Washington that's a
36:32strikeout this guy will throw any pitch in any count three two he goes off speed gets the
36:37out so up next red baby three pitch strike out last time up got to put up more of a
36:44fight in this one
36:51just missed
36:58so a foul ball makes it one and two
37:03two down nobody on
37:06hot shot to first base and he snags it to end the inning nothing doing for the Mets this game's
37:13all tied at four
37:20back down for the bottom of the six and there's a new pitcher on the mound Christian Scott and compared
37:25to a lot of other relievers strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year so the defense
37:31should be active
37:37that one
37:38that one finds the zone
37:39that strike one some hitters it is more confident they can track that first pitch out of the hand of
37:44the pitcher they don't care if they fall behind on one
37:49right through there for a strike stirring in the bullpen for the Mets Brooks Raley
37:53preparing to come on if needed Weaver also throwing
38:01too close for me partner to take that oh two fastball but for whatever reasons he let it go by
38:06he's still in the at bat I don't think he'll let the next one go
38:22Oh that got away from him and he's gonna reach out a hit by pitch to lead off the inning
38:27next for the race
38:42the race with the go-ahead run at first here in the bottom of the six
38:50delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95 back-to-back fastballs in that last one called for a
38:56strike
38:56probably go away but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off
39:02and a count one and two definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside I really think the outer
39:09half is open
39:17that one lifted to left Soto under this one takes it in for the out
39:26just pulled off of it a little bit right there that front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed
39:31if he does that he's gonna be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead
39:36of a fly out to left
39:41Mesa in the box now no balls in a strike one away tie game go ahead run stands at first
39:54slider first right so now it's all about protect mode try to shorten up try to track the ball block
40:00it if you have to as far as just a late swing that maybe you're not sure about but some
40:04way somehow climb back into this
40:07it back through the count
40:10and there's two down
40:15up next for the race center fielder
40:32on the ground the first
40:34that goes foul
40:36two gone the possible go ahead run at first
40:44high fly ball right field under it
40:50and that is that
40:52through six all square
40:54four four
41:00back here in Tampa Bay we go to the top of the seventh Francisco Alvarez up now for the Mets
41:10well these Mets simply put are producing a lot of quality swings
41:14they've hit seven line drives already and even though some of them have been for outs there's nothing wrong with
41:20delivering consistent hard contact
41:22that's almost always going to lead to positive results
41:25five
41:31tied at four
41:33comes up empty that strike two
41:43on the ground right side
41:46sends it to first
41:47and they get the lead off hitter in the seventh
41:49good arm side right at that same side hitter right there very difficult to put that ball in the air
41:54or get through it just pours in on the hands
42:05pulls that one foul
42:10and he'll one
42:14base hit
42:15so the go ahead run is on base with a knock
42:20he was all over that one really good swing right there he got a pitch that he knew he could
42:25handle allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws
42:32and now the right fielder one for two
42:37there's a strike
42:45and that one fouled off
42:56one away tie game go ahead run stands at first fights it off you'll see another
43:11fouls that off to the left and we'll do it again
43:15fouls that off to the left and we'll do it again
43:18sets him down looking
43:26up next
43:37that's in there that's strike one this guy is just filling up the strike zone right now
43:41don't want to get yourself in an 0-2 hole you better be ready to pull the trigger on the
43:45first pitch
43:53up the middle and he knocks it down
43:56the throw is still in time and even with his speed they get the out
44:01Mets leave one still all square at four apiece
44:08we're back in a new picture here to start the bottom of the seventh
44:11Brooks Raley
44:12and this could be a tough first test for him right here
44:15his numbers
44:21lefties aren't great this season
44:36this to third
44:37Bichette
44:39at the leadoff hitter set down to open the seven
44:42good arm side run and sink on that pitch right there
44:45got inside on him and got him to bounce into that out
44:54no need to offer that pitch until you get to two strikes it's just a low percentage of success when
44:59you want to try to go after that down and away pitch
45:12on the ground right side
45:14Mauricio
45:15throw to first in time
45:19up next for the Rays
45:21now it's the shortstop
45:23Carson Williams
45:24he's two for two
45:41two down nobody on here at the bottom of the seven
45:47next offering is foul back
45:54the one-two
45:58swing and a bouncer
46:01not in time
46:03great effort there
46:05but now the go-ahead run is on at first
46:07with two outs
46:08you just want to find a way to keep the line moving for the next guy
46:11so an infield single right there does the job
46:14nicely done just putting it in play
46:16and get down to first to keep this inning alive
46:19you never know what might come next as a result
46:29Williams leads off first with two down to the inning
46:37swings and misses 0-2
46:48battling here as he fouls it away
46:58the 0-2
47:00swing and a ground ball
47:02third ball
47:03around second on his way to third
47:06the throw in save
47:07and the go-ahead runs at third
47:10two consecutive base hits for this team
47:13now a good opportunity to potentially jump ahead in this game here in the later innings
47:20manager out of the dugout and he's going to make a change
47:23Brooks Raley won't go any further
47:26and the line not closed on him yet
47:28as he's responsible for the runners on base
47:30back with a new pitcher after this
47:36Luke Weaver into the game
47:38he's certainly been one of their better relief pitchers this season
47:41the numbers are really solid
47:43so they feel great about handing the ball over to him
47:46go ahead run on base
47:48Jonathan Aranda getting ready to hit
47:500-4-3 in this one
47:54and there's a strike
48:06hard grounder into the outfield for a knock
48:09runner from third in to score
48:11it's an RBI single
48:14and they take the lead in the seventh
48:16such great concentration
48:19everybody on their feet
48:20knowing that you can come through with a good swing
48:24and there he doesn't try to do too much
48:33fastball for a strike
48:35two aboard two outs
48:42oh he doesn't get the call
48:43and now it's even one and one
48:45catcher challenge
48:47we'll take another look
48:48it just shaved the zone
48:51still two challenges left for them
49:00two on two outs
49:03dives and he can't hang on
49:05still able to get it there in time
49:08and they do get the out
49:10but the RBI single pushes across a run
49:13we look ahead to inning number eight
49:15this is Rays baseball
49:17on the show Florida
49:22welcome back
49:23and a new arm on the mound
49:24to start the eight
49:25Steven Matz
49:26definitely a guy that pounds the strike zone
49:29makes hitters earn their way on base
49:31and rarely gets in trouble
49:33because of free passes
49:39swing and a foul out of play
49:47looking to get the tying run on base
49:51fall off foul
49:580-2 now
50:13hard ground ball for a base dot
50:17and that puts the tying run on base
50:21always feels amazing getting a job done when the team needs you to come through it's just bigger than your
50:27own individual stats got the top of the ball a little bit but it's just bigger than your own individual
50:30stats
50:30but not much
50:30that was hit pretty hard through the infield
50:33so I think you'll be happy with that swing
50:35definitely generated some good bat speed
50:39the 0-1
50:42swing and this one's bounce to the ground
50:44the turn by Williams in second
50:46and two
50:47what a play
50:49for me that's one of the toughest double plays to turn on the infield
50:52the first baseman has to get inside
50:54create a throwing lane
50:55to hit that middle infielder
50:56to start the double play
50:58and then from there completing it back to first
51:00really good job all the way around
51:02so up next for New York
51:04Ronnie Mauricio
51:09Williams
51:12and that'll do it
51:14Mets go down quickly
51:16they trail it
51:175-4
51:20back now in Tampa
51:27at the plate now for the Rays is the DH
51:30Yandy Diaz
51:34that one's in there
51:354-1
51:45line drive
51:47base hit right field
51:50and a good start to the inning
51:53I was watching his rounds during batting practice today
51:56so impressed with his ability to let the ball travel
51:58go back up the middle in the other way
52:01sometimes when you step in the box during the game
52:03you get a little anxious and you get away from that
52:05but so far I've seen him stay consistent with his pre-game preparation
52:24in the air left field
52:27and it falls
52:29lead runner holds up
52:31they're at first and second with nobody out
52:33back to back base hits
52:35that's a ball that a lot of times you'll see the shortstop or left fielder be able to catch
52:38you
52:39to get to if it hangs up in the air long enough
52:41but right there
52:42it just died and found a way to drop in on the green stuff
52:45for base hit
52:48now here is Cedric Mullins
52:51and a bunt towards third
52:52and that's foul
52:54well these Rays really impressing me with the quality of their bats in this one
52:58it's been fun getting a chance to see them go to work
53:00the numbers help tell the story
53:02I mean they've been sitting fastball
53:04and it's paying off in a big way
53:05so far with six hits against that pitch alone
53:08to first and he beats it everyone's safe
53:12nearly a highlight reel play at third
53:14but the bare hand grab still wasn't enough to get the out
53:17great effort
53:23make that play as close as it was though
53:32there's a strike
53:32you need a strikeout
53:34and you need a ball perhaps on the ground for a double play or get yourself a pop-up or
53:39something
53:39but you've got to make some pitches
53:40but if he can battle and get through this
53:43he can earn some points
53:52here's the 0-2
53:54swings and misses struck him out
53:57and that is a big first out
53:58so he needed a strikeout there and he got it
54:01and now we'll see how they play it defensively
54:03yeah now they can move the middle infielders back a little bit
54:06get into double play depth
54:08and look for a ground ball and
54:09roll it up get a big double play
54:11get out of this inning
54:12I tell you what that was a big strikeout in the spot where they really needed one
54:16Faduccia swings through it for strike one
54:26in the air to left center
54:28Soto under it
54:31brings it in
54:32runner tagging from third
54:35save
54:35and they add to their lead as the run scores from third
54:39that play really shows how important it is to hit the cutoff man
54:43looked like he tried to throw through and get the runner at home but it backfired
54:47and it ended up costing them a run
54:49I remember my rookie year overthrowing a cutoff man
54:52didn't last long before I was pulled aside by a veteran pitcher
54:55he had a talk with me
54:57I don't know if I ever missed a cutoff man again
55:04new pitcher on down
55:05Reed Garrett
55:06just trying to keep this one close here
55:09and this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game
55:13up next for the Rays
55:15shortstop
55:16Carson Williams
55:23and that's through there for a strike
55:35this one in the air center field
55:40he's got it
55:41and that ends the inning
55:43two men left stranded
55:45but they do push across one
55:47through eight full
55:48the Rays in front
55:496-4
55:50last chance
56:07back now
56:08and on the mound the closer
56:10Brian Baker
56:12outstanding year for him out of the pen in terms of locking up wins for this ball club
56:16a chance right here for his 45th save of the season
56:23next offering is fouled back
56:29that's foul off to the right side keeps the A.B. going
56:38and a rope into center field
56:40base hit
56:41and that'll bring the tying run to the plate
56:44I'd say a mistake pitch in an 0-2 count
56:47too good of a pitch to hit right there
56:48you have to expand the zone
56:50keep that leadoff man off first base
56:53Brett Beatty
56:54up now for the Mets
56:56and fouled off
57:01here comes the 0-1
57:04after ball
57:04he's really working him away this at bat
57:06sometimes take a little bit off velocity
57:08try to get a rollover
57:09something on the ground
57:10stay away from that big hole
57:12on the right side of the infield
57:15Liner
57:15snagged at first
57:17applies the tag
57:18and they get two
57:19double play
57:31in there for strike one
57:37that's a bullet but it goes foul
57:42Baker is just one strike away
57:45the guy at the plate could recognize slider out of the hand
57:49didn't stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception
57:52he knew right away
57:54it was an off-speed pitch
57:58chew down
57:59nobody on
58:00and they'll do it again
58:082-2 down
58:10got him
58:11and that's the ball game
58:13you don't reach 45 saves in a season by wasting opportunities
58:16this guy's been taking advantage of these moments all year
58:20and we saw it happen again in this win
58:22and this one ends with a final score of 6-4
58:25for Chris Singleton and our entire crew here at MLB The Show
