00:00:21Redesign, rebuild, reclaim.
00:00:26Seth Rollins is back.
00:00:31The true linear champion.
00:00:34Never lost the title.
00:00:36Yeah, to John's point back in November, Seth Rollins suffered a serious knee injury,
00:00:39forced to vacate the championship.
00:00:41Tonight he's coming to get what he calls his title back.
00:01:03Seth Rollins has said all along, Roman Reigns, he's a placeholder, he's an interim champion.
00:01:09Seth Rollins said in Facebook Live earlier today that no better place to return to action than the fight capital
00:01:15of the world.
00:01:16Everything I work for, this is what it's all about.
00:01:20I'm bringing my A-game.
00:01:32It's time to get him, Seth.
00:01:34It's time to get him, Seth Rollins.
00:01:36It's time to get him.
00:01:49It's time to get him.
00:02:01Roman Reigns will not forget the past.
00:02:04The WWE World Heavyweight Champion said on a tweet earlier on, it said,
00:02:09It's easy, Seth, to stab me in the back.
00:02:13Tonight you can't do that because tonight we're going face to face.
00:02:19But the question, John, is this for Roman Reigns?
00:02:22Can he beat Seth Rollins?
00:02:24And that is the big question that we aim to find out right now, Myron, because that's the greatest question
00:02:29in Roman Reigns mind as well.
00:02:31Look, he would love to have won that title from Seth Rollins.
00:02:34He didn't have that opportunity.
00:02:36That's not his fault.
00:02:37Tonight, though, he has the opportunity to take the asterisk off of his championship reign by defeating Seth Rollins.
00:02:46And Reigns was supposed to get that opportunity last year at Survivor Series before Seth got hurt.
00:02:50And Reigns has said himself, my reign will not be fulfilled until I defeat Seth Rollins.
00:03:06Hashtag Reigns versus Rollins.
00:03:1614,150 on hand sold out of the brand new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
00:03:25What about the great fights that have been in Las Vegas?
00:03:28WrestleMania 9, Tyson, Holyfield, all the UFC fights, great champions, create reactions.
00:03:36And everybody, whether you love him or hate him, has a strong, passionate feel about Roman Reigns.
00:03:49Roman is the guy.
00:03:52Seth says he's the man.
00:03:54Something has to give tonight.
00:04:01The following contest is scheduled for one fall and it is for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
00:04:13Introducing first, the challenger from Davenport, Iowa, weighing in at 217 pounds, Seth Rollins.
00:04:29And his opponent, from Pensacola, Florida, weighing in at 265 pounds, he is the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Roman Reigns.
00:04:47John, we asked the question, can Roman beat Seth?
00:04:50Here's another question for you, can Seth beat Roman now that he does not have the authority behind him?
00:04:57Remember, throughout Seth Rollins' entire WWE title reign the first time around, the authority, Triple H and Stephanie were backing
00:05:04Seth Rollins.
00:05:05Look, great champions always have entourages.
00:05:07That's what Seth had.
00:05:09When he becomes champion again, he'll have an entourage again.
00:05:12They didn't make him become champion.
00:05:13Seth Rollins made Seth Rollins become champion.
00:05:16And he gets a lot of hangers on because of that.
00:05:18This is our main event for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
00:05:23Roman Reigns, your champion, against the man who never lost the title, had to vacate it due to injury, Seth
00:05:29Rollins.
00:05:33And we're underway.
00:05:38You can feel it right now.
00:05:40You can feel we're about to see something special.
00:05:53You can feel it right now.
00:06:04Power and elbow tie up to start things off and Roman Reigns gonna power Seth back into the corner.
00:06:08And for Reigns, it's the power against the speed and quickness of Seth Rollins tonight.
00:06:14Yeah, and sometimes when you throw that first punch in boxing, you only aim to knock anybody out.
00:06:18You just want them to feel your power.
00:06:20That's what Roman Reigns was doing right there.
00:06:25You want Seth to realize that he is the guy.
00:06:29And John, here's another big question about Seth Rollins.
00:06:31This ring rust has not been in the ring since November, while Roman Reigns has been defending the championship all
00:06:38over the world.
00:06:39Every night.
00:06:41Will that be a factor?
00:06:43Of course it could be a factor.
00:06:45There's hardly a way to replicate a title match.
00:06:48From what I understand, Seth has been having live scrimmages, for lack of a better word, in the gym, to
00:06:54get ready for Roman Reigns.
00:06:55But you're right, there's no way to replicate this big fight feeling.
00:06:58And on the other side, Michael, Roman Reigns is as battle tested right now as he has ever been.
00:07:04Yeah, Roman has dealt with the physical, psychological, the physical onslaught of the authority.
00:07:09I mean, he is a hardened soldier with a chip on his shoulder.
00:07:13This is not the same man that Seth has dealt with in the past.
00:07:18So what you're seeing is here, you're seeing an improved Seth Rollins.
00:07:21But as you said, Byron, you're seeing also an improved Roman Reigns.
00:07:24Roman Reigns' head and shoulders better than what he was when Seth Rollins left because of an injury.
00:07:34Seth has said that he's the one that held Roman Reigns' hand back in the shield,
00:07:39says that he knows what Roman's gonna do before Roman even does it.
00:07:42The architect.
00:07:42Roman Reigns has stepped up and done exactly what he says.
00:07:45He is the guy.
00:07:46Yeah.
00:07:46And he deserves that moniker.
00:07:48But there's one thing he hasn't done, John, and that's beat Seth Rollins.
00:07:51Absolutely.
00:07:51Look, I'm in full agreement with that.
00:07:53That's not Roman Reigns' fault.
00:07:54He's beat what's in front of him.
00:07:58And again, will he be considering himself the true champion until he beats Seth Rollins?
00:08:01No, I don't think he will.
00:08:03The opportunity is right in front of him.
00:08:07Marking his territory as he delivered that wicked shoulder tackle.
00:08:17Seth back to his feet and another one by Roman.
00:08:22That's Roman telling Seth, you're in my yard right now.
00:08:26Yeah, this is a different Roman Reigns.
00:08:30Seth with a slap kick.
00:08:32And that may have stunned Roman.
00:08:35And Seth again, driving Reigns with a knee to the back out of the ring.
00:08:42And Seth Rollins sends himself through the second rope.
00:08:46He lands on his feet and Rollins is rolling.
00:08:50The redesigned Seth Rollins.
00:08:52First high impact maneuver we've seen from Seth Rollins in this matchup.
00:08:55Yeah, pulled it off successfully.
00:08:56And a lot of times, John, you gotta get that first one out of the way.
00:08:59You gotta do, you gotta get hit in the mouth.
00:09:01Then you gotta pull off a couple maneuvers that you normally do.
00:09:03And that shakes that ring rust off and gives you the confidence.
00:09:06A drop will drive that confidence out of your body though.
00:09:10Ring rattling by Reigns.
00:09:21You know, both these men talked a big game coming in.
00:09:23But I think they both realized this was not gonna be a cakewalk.
00:09:27I think they both knew it was gonna happen.
00:09:30And they both, in a way, look forward to it.
00:09:32They both, in a way, dread it.
00:09:33John, this is inevitable.
00:09:34Ever since that night when Seth Rollins hit Roman Reigns in the back with a chair.
00:09:38Seth Rollins knew that that night.
00:09:40I guarantee you he knew that that night.
00:09:42Roman knew it the next day.
00:09:44That eventually this would come to a head.
00:09:47Eventually this would be the culmination.
00:09:49Two cracks by Reigns.
00:09:52Cover, forearm in the face, and a kick out.
00:09:54And I asked Seth Rollins about that in an interview last week on WWE.com,
00:09:58about the night he turned his back on The Shield and he simply said,
00:10:01I wanted to be great.
00:10:03I wanted to be the man.
00:10:05That's the thing, when The Shield first came here to WWE,
00:10:07they all made that pack.
00:10:09We're gonna make it to the top of this industry.
00:10:11Just so happened Seth Rollins was the first guy to do it.
00:10:16Seth fulfilled the pack.
00:10:18He was the architect.
00:10:20And remember The Shield had nothing left to prove.
00:10:22The first big moment of Rollins' singles career came right here at this event.
00:10:26When he won Money in the Bank, the ladder match.
00:10:28And then he would go into one of the most dramatic cash-ins of all time at WrestleMania,
00:10:34when Reigns was locked in a vicious battle with Brock Lesnar.
00:10:38Reigns claimed that very event, that moment that Seth Rollins cashed in and motivated him.
00:10:43It angered him to unleash this new attitude that would propel him to the top.
00:10:48Showing some attitude right now.
00:10:52What do you think this was?
00:10:54You know what I am.
00:10:56You're just little brother.
00:11:16Malice in every one of those forearms.
00:11:19Yes, there is.
00:11:21As I used to say about Mike Tyson, throwing with bad intentions.
00:11:25Headbutt.
00:11:27Get him out.
00:11:29One.
00:11:33One.
00:11:37One.
00:11:37Got to tell the world's slam.
00:11:39Force.
00:11:40Is this enough to put Seth away?
00:11:41He hooks the inside leg.
00:11:43Two.
00:11:43Seth forced to power it too.
00:11:45As I mentioned earlier, Roman knew this would happen eventually.
00:11:47He knew that Seth Rollins was gonna come back, searching for his championship.
00:11:51And he also knew in the back of his head, he was going to be ready when it happened.
00:11:57And I would imagine he has been looking forward to it.
00:12:01Because the one thing that Roman knew, he was robbed of.
00:12:04And that was beating the guy who was the champion, the true linear champion.
00:12:12Manhandling Rollins.
00:12:13You sure you ready?
00:12:14You sure you ready?
00:12:15Huh?
00:12:17Huh?
00:12:17Oh boy.
00:12:23Come on bitch.
00:12:24That was the smartest move that Seth Rollins has done.
00:12:32It just angered Roman Reigns.
00:12:33He just lit a fire in the gym.
00:12:38Remember, in order to win the title, Seth has to pin or tap.
00:12:42Roman Reigns.
00:12:43It's a qualification.
00:12:44It's count-outs.
00:12:44Don't do anything.
00:12:45Here comes Seth Rollins, now fired up.
00:12:47Kick to the midsection.
00:12:49And the power of Reigns drives Rollins back into the corner.
00:12:52And a big right hand.
00:12:56Roman Reigns just set Seth Rollins on the top rope like a toddler.
00:13:03I think Seth is realizing this is a brand new Roman Reigns.
00:13:09It wasn't if the old Roman Reigns wasn't great.
00:13:12Look, he took Brock Lesnar to the limit at WrestleMania when Seth Rollins cashed in.
00:13:17He's battle-hardened, John.
00:13:18He's got a chip on his shoulder now.
00:13:21And Rollins sent right into the Spanish announce table and over it.
00:13:25Right table.
00:13:35Now notice how Reigns rolled back into the ring to break the count,
00:13:39because he wants to beat Seth Rollins here.
00:13:48Watch out.
00:13:51Face first right off our table.
00:13:54And again.
00:13:56One, two, three, two.
00:14:03Oh boy, oh boy.
00:14:10Seth wisely getting out of Dodge.
00:14:13Yeah, rolling back into the ring, trying to get out of harm's way, because when you look at what Roman
00:14:17Reigns has learned,
00:14:17that is exactly what Triple H did to Roman Reigns when he broke his nose.
00:14:22Yeah, it's pretty apparent that Reigns is willing to do whatever it takes right now to eliminate Seth Rollins.
00:14:28Rollins just trying to stay out of Reigns' way here, stay out of the line of fire.
00:14:33Look at this manhandling Seth Rollins.
00:14:41And Seth Rollins over the announce table.
00:14:49Pretty incredible, John.
00:14:51It's been mostly all Roman in this match.
00:14:54But then they turned the tables.
00:14:57Yeah, spoke too soon.
00:15:02Reigns driven shoulder first into the steel steps.
00:15:08Back to his feet.
00:15:11Impact.
00:15:14This is what Seth Rollins has to do.
00:15:16Well, Seth realizes he's gotta pin the champ or tap him.
00:15:19So he's gotta, he needs him in the ring.
00:15:21Seth realizing that's gonna go to the top rope.
00:15:23And one thing, and Reigns again.
00:15:26Spins, set the round.
00:15:33My God.
00:15:35Uh-oh.
00:15:39My goodness, John.
00:15:43Razor's out into the powerbomb.
00:15:45He's had enough to retain the title and a kick out.
00:15:56Roman trying to figure out how Seth kicked out of this.
00:16:01The impact off the powerbomb.
00:16:04And Rollins at two.
00:16:08Yeah, but you don't sense that Roman is losing his cool.
00:16:10You sense that the wheels are turning.
00:16:13What do I have to do next?
00:16:23I think we know.
00:16:30Remember the Superman punch, Seth Rollins able to counter.
00:16:33Seth was lying in wait.
00:16:37Set Roman face first off the turnbuckle and it stuns the champion.
00:16:41Roman is the one getting to his feet, not Seth.
00:16:44Yeah, but the champ's stunned.
00:16:47Seth can't even make it to his feet.
00:16:50Lands on his feet this time, and he caught him.
00:16:57And Reigns sent out of the ring again.
00:17:04Here comes Rollins.
00:17:06Rollins drives the champion into the barricade.
00:17:11Here we go again.
00:17:17And I think that knee is working just fine.
00:17:22Yeah, Seth Rollins, I think he figured he's gotta take it up a notch.
00:17:26And he did that.
00:17:27One, two, three.
00:17:30Well, Seth knew he couldn't match up strength with Roman Reigns.
00:17:33And certainly the first ten minutes of this match, you found out how much stronger Roman Reigns is.
00:17:37But this is important.
00:17:38We're on a count of five.
00:17:39Seth's gotta get the champ back in the ring.
00:17:40Countout does not help anybody.
00:17:42Seth back into the ring except the champion.
00:17:44Seth back into the ring.
00:17:47He caught him with a sling blade.
00:17:48Is it enough here?
00:17:49Seth cover.
00:17:50Hooks the leg.
00:17:51Shoulder down.
00:17:52Kick out by the champion.
00:17:56Building momentum.
00:18:01Two times over.
00:18:05As you mentioned, Michael, Seth Rollins deciding he's gotta up the ante a little bit here.
00:18:10Take a few more risks.
00:18:22Wheels are turning in the architect's head.
00:18:25That's a dangerous thing for Roman Reigns.
00:18:27Seth waiting for Reigns to make it back to his feet.
00:18:30Rollins gonna launch himself off the second rope.
00:18:32Went for that knee.
00:18:34Reigns ducked underneath.
00:18:35Went for the superman punch.
00:18:37Goes for the pedigree.
00:18:38Goes for the pedigree.
00:18:39Oh.
00:18:40Reigns countered.
00:18:41Seth landed on his feet.
00:18:42Superman punch.
00:18:44Wow.
00:18:45On the button.
00:18:46Tyson-like.
00:18:47Cover.
00:18:48Out.
00:18:48Pick out.
00:18:55Seth Rollins showed us something there, guys.
00:18:58One, two, three, two, one.
00:19:01Yeah, this will be the third and finally successful attempt for Roman Reigns.
00:19:07But this is the important part of this whole sequence, the kick out.
00:19:14Quick.
00:19:15Now stunned to Seth Rollins.
00:19:25I think Roman believes he has Seth right where he wants him now.
00:19:30In position to put Seth away.
00:19:33Well, except for a really good party, Roman Reigns has dominated this match.
00:19:36Went for the spear, knee to the face.
00:19:38Again, Seth lining weight.
00:19:44Seth on the apron, he caught Roman, flush with that kick.
00:19:47Seth has countered nearly all of Roman's big moves.
00:19:50Knee right to the side of the face.
00:19:53Seth Rollins gonna go up top, realizes the champion's in trouble.
00:20:03Viva!
00:20:05Oh, I thought he went for the cover.
00:20:07Now he's gonna go for the cover.
00:20:08Bounced off the frog splash, covers the champ, kick out by Roman Reigns.
00:20:11Seth got lucky there.
00:20:12I think Seth got extremely unlucky, bounced off of Roman.
00:20:16Watch this.
00:20:17Watch.
00:20:17And this is what Jon's talking about.
00:20:19First, the impact off the frog splash.
00:20:21And Seth bounced off the impact.
00:20:23And that split second could've cost him.
00:20:26I think if he could've got the cover right away, I think you're right.
00:20:29I think Seth walks out champion.
00:20:31Talk about a very short window of opportunity that Seth Rollins had there to beat Roman Reigns.
00:20:40Look at Roman though.
00:20:41Roman trying to catch his breath.
00:20:43He had the wind knocked out of him off that frog splash from the top rope.
00:20:52Once again, wheels are turning.
00:20:54Seth, he's gonna be going to the top again.
00:21:06That time he got caught.
00:21:08Roman caught him on the right.
00:21:21Roman banging about here.
00:21:29What he's thinking about, Seth Rollins wants no part of it.
00:21:33He's doing a great job countering Reigns here.
00:21:41Now Seth in an offensive position.
00:21:43You have a little hesitation.
00:21:45Remember, that's the move that Seth blew his knee out on.
00:21:48Exactly.
00:21:51That was a hesitation.
00:21:52This right here is the move that he blew the knee out on.
00:21:55It's Seth Rollins with a turnbuckle powerbomb.
00:21:58Uh-oh.
00:22:00Kick to the face.
00:22:04Cover for the championship.
00:22:07Kick out again.
00:22:14It's a good omen for Seth.
00:22:15He had a little hesitation.
00:22:16You could feel the trepidation from that knee.
00:22:19Then he goes ahead and does it and realizes that knee is fine.
00:22:22Sometimes that's all you need to get over that mental barrier.
00:22:25One, two, three.
00:22:34Rollins is spent.
00:22:44Rollins trying to figure out what he does next to the champion.
00:22:47To put him down and out.
00:22:48One, two, three.
00:22:51Two, three.
00:22:55One, two, three.
00:22:57One, two, three.
00:22:57Oh!
00:22:59A vicious forearm.
00:23:06Roman everything he can do to stay up in the corner.
00:23:14Barely being held up by those ropes.
00:23:31Seth now climbing up top, Seth going up top, and Roman with a block.
00:23:36The champion just keeps coming back, getting in your face.
00:23:40Seth has the same type of bad intentions for Roman Reigns, and Roman knew it.
00:23:45Seth's going back to it, Seth's gonna go till he gets it.
00:23:47And Seth not gonna be turned away.
00:23:51Again Reigns.
00:23:52I mean, that's just the strength of Roman.
00:23:55We don't see Roman Reigns on the top rope very often.
00:24:00Boy.
00:24:01Uh-oh.
00:24:02Roman up that top rope.
00:24:03Seth's in the back.
00:24:05Seth Rollins.
00:24:07The Falcon's arrow, the Falcon's arrow, cover for the win, and a two and a half.
00:24:13Man, man.
00:24:23Now Seth's thinking, what do I gotta do?
00:24:29That float over straight into it, and Seth Rollins thought he had it.
00:24:43What do you do now if you're Seth?
00:24:45You pulled everything out.
00:24:46I think you keep hitting him.
00:24:49Look, it's working.
00:24:50You're getting closer and closer.
00:24:53First of the match, you couldn't get a cover.
00:24:55You got a two and three quarters right there.
00:24:58Stay with your plan, and don't get frustrated.
00:25:01A run for the pedigree.
00:25:05And Reigns able to block it.
00:25:09Oh, it's hitting that pedigree for the pedigree.
00:25:12Gonna be the final part of that plan.
00:25:14Reigns comes out of it with a right.
00:25:18Kick to the midsection again, Seth Rollins misses wildly.
00:25:21Reigns is gonna roll him up, shoulders.
00:25:23No, power's through.
00:25:24Man, look at this.
00:25:26Power.
00:25:26What a powerbomb cover.
00:25:28Is it enough here?
00:25:29Kick out.
00:25:40Look at his strength.
00:25:45And there's the opponent.
00:25:55Bob Backman is one of the first we've ever seen was strong enough to do something like that.
00:25:59There's been very few people in history able to utilize that move.
00:26:08Eye to eye, face to face.
00:26:10Yeah, these two men despise one another.
00:26:22Now being champion, WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
00:26:26That's all it's about.
00:26:33Seth let his ego draw himself into a fist fight.
00:26:39Damn it, forearm after forearm and another hit by Reigns.
00:26:43And a kick.
00:26:46Caught Roman who's now stunned.
00:26:51Right for the midsection now, Seth Rollins got Roman where he wants him.
00:26:57You're looking for here.
00:26:59Turnbuckle powerbomb again.
00:27:02What a response.
00:27:04Roman used the momentum to his advantage.
00:27:08And Roman reigns to retain the WWE World Heavyweight title and Rollins kicked out at two.
00:27:15Roman could barely even just crawl over to drape himself over Seth Rollins for that cover.
00:27:20Watch Roman use his momentum.
00:27:21And pure instinct.
00:27:32These two have used virtually every move in the playbook.
00:27:42Seth wants that title that he says he never lost and he didn't.
00:27:46Roman reign wants to take off any doubt of his championship reign by beating Seth Rollins.
00:27:52Something will have to give.
00:27:58This is one fall to the finish.
00:28:03Reigns and Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight title.
00:28:08Rollins going.
00:28:18What's Seth doing?
00:28:20Reigns has got him in his sights.
00:28:25No clue what Rollins is looking for.
00:28:28Rollins.
00:28:29Watch out.
00:28:30He ran into the barricade.
00:28:32Seth Rollins stepped out of the way.
00:28:34Rollins.
00:28:35That would have been disaster for Rollins, but it may be disaster for the champion.
00:28:43Let's see this.
00:28:44Seth moves out of the rim.
00:28:46That was a 265 pound man, full force, crashing into that barricade.
00:28:53Well, the official, and I think that-
00:28:54Wait a minute, guys.
00:28:55I think Roman would have been better off, that whole barricade would have broke.
00:28:58The officials called for a doctor to come out here and check on Roman Reigns,
00:29:03who really blasted that barricade.
00:29:05The champion trying to get back to his feet.
00:29:13He hit hard, real hard.
00:29:19Broke the wall.
00:29:22And Rollins is out here in front of us, beside himself, because he realizes this is a huge
00:29:26opportunity to get the champion back in the ring, but the doctors are intending to him.
00:29:30This is a huge opportunity.
00:29:30Rollins out on his feet, and while the referee's making the decision here, you're right,
00:29:34Seth Rollins is losing a valuable amount of time.
00:29:37Seth Rollins gonna get the champ back into the ring.
00:29:47The official asking the doctor if he's okay to go.
00:29:49Look at the Rollins.
00:29:50Seth Rollins going for a pedigree.
00:29:52And he's driven right into the official.
00:30:01Here's the cover by Reigns.
00:30:04Whoa, whoa, whoa, wait.
00:30:07Two, he got him, Reigns got him down.
00:30:09Reigns at two and a half.
00:30:18Going for the pedigree.
00:30:20Mike Yoda, senior official, shaking with the doctor to make sure Roman was all right.
00:30:25Never saw it coming.
00:30:26And the spear by Reigns, and by the time the referee came to, to make the count,
00:30:33Seth Rollins had recovered just enough to kick out.
00:30:38We saw the same thing happen when Seth hit Roman with that frog splash.
00:30:42Reigns looking for another one.
00:30:43And the spear by Reigns.
00:30:44He got him in the pedigree.
00:30:45He got him in the pedigree.
00:30:46He got him in the pedigree.
00:30:47Cover.
00:30:48Oh, the champion.
00:30:49No, no.
00:30:49Take out of Reigns.
00:30:50Reigns is still in it.
00:30:51Reigns is still in this match.
00:30:53Reigns survives.
00:31:01Watch this counter by Rollins.
00:31:03Oh, my.
00:31:05Mid-air.
00:31:06Yeah, unfortunately, the pedigree was tougher.
00:31:08He's trying to get the pedigree.
00:31:09He just missed that right arm of Roman Reigns.
00:31:15Reigns.
00:31:17Rollins now with the champion in trouble.
00:31:20Reigns is out of it.
00:31:22Seth Rollins, middle of the ring, looking to put Roman Reigns away.
00:31:25He hits this.
00:31:26A pedigree to Reigns.
00:31:29Cover by Rollins.
00:31:31One, two.
00:31:32Seth Rollins is the champion.
00:31:35Here is your winner and the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins.
00:31:46He said he was coming back better.
00:31:49He said it was a new Seth Rollins.
00:31:51He said he was gonna reclaim the championship that he never lost.
00:31:56Seth Rollins did all of that.
00:31:58For the second time in his career, Rollins is the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
00:32:06The mission statement has been fulfilled.
00:32:09Seth Rollins has held that title twice, but has never lost it.
00:32:15Not in the ring.
00:32:17He reclaims the championship.
00:32:19He was forced to vacate back in November.
00:32:23He's tied us to these 100%.
00:32:31There is no better way to start an evening of magic than with this man.
00:32:46For 516 days, Roman Reigns has been Universal Champion.
00:32:54Only four men in WWE history have held a major championship longer.
00:33:03Those days, Pedro Morales, Bob Backlund, Hulk Hogan, and Bruno Sammartino.
00:33:15The question is, will Roman survive tonight?
00:33:36Those four names you mentioned will be etched in the history books of sports entertainment as absolute icons.
00:33:45And the man that's walking down the ice.
00:33:49Here in front of 44,000 people.
00:33:53He's the greatest Universal Champion of all time.
00:33:57He's a man who's transcending this business.
00:34:00He's on a different level.
00:34:02Your пользовatrightillä yay!
00:34:03And tonight it's personal.
00:34:04Yeah I need a VIP.
00:34:11Don't paint ya!
00:34:11I need a VIP!
00:34:14A VIP!
00:34:20Go!
00:34:21Hey, too!
00:34:22Hey, too!
00:34:25Hey, too!
00:34:30Okay.
00:34:31Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:34:31For 17 months, Roman Reigns has dominated everyone.
00:34:36He had a special counsel and cousins to help him stay under control,
00:34:40to keep his cool, to concentrate on the business at hand.
00:34:43But now Paul Heyman is gone, and the Usos are barred from ringside.
00:34:47And without those calming forces, Pat,
00:34:50cracks started to show last night in Roman's armor.
00:34:54Seth Rollins touched on the one thing Roman Reigns has not been able to get over.
00:35:00The dissolution of the shield at the hands of Seth Rollins.
00:35:10Roman Reigns is a loyal man, a family man.
00:35:16And what Seth Rollins did to his family was cowardly in the eyes of the head of the table,
00:35:25the tribal chief.
00:35:28The man that is etched from the gods of sports entertainment.
00:35:43But Pat, the one thing we saw last night that we haven't seen out of Roman Reigns
00:35:47as of late, is he actually lost his crew.
00:35:52Yeah, every once in a while,
00:35:54the goats are gonna have a little bit of a flustering situation.
00:35:59Seth Rollins took Roman back to a place
00:36:05that he hasn't been to in a long time.
00:36:09I can't wait for this.
00:36:11I can't wait for this.
00:36:37Joker.
00:36:40Reigns cannot believe it.
00:36:43Seth Rollins marching through the crowd the same way the Hounds of Justice,
00:36:50the Shield, did for so many years.
00:36:59Pat once again, the cerebral Seth Rollins pushing Roman Reigns' buttons, getting in his head.
00:37:16As this rattled Roman, you can't help but ask yourself,
00:37:21we haven't seen Roman have this type of look, this type of confusion in 500-some days.
00:37:29And as soon as we heard that music pop right there, the Shield,
00:37:35you can't help but have a little nostalgia.
00:37:38You can't help but think back to the glory days
00:37:40when Mox, Seth, and Roman would go time to time beating everybody's ass.
00:37:47And that man right there, Seth freaking Rollins, decided to tear it apart.
00:37:56Seth Rollins says he knows Roman Reigns so well.
00:37:59He knows how to prey on the insecurities of the Universal Champion.
00:38:04He knew there was one thing that Roman Reigns could never get over.
00:38:09And that is that Seth Rollins chose to end the Shield.
00:38:17The blow to the back of Roman Reigns with a steel chair many years ago.
00:38:25Which broke up, perhaps, the greatest faction in WWE history.
00:38:31And tonight, Rollins hopes to use all of that to get in the head of the champ and
00:38:37win the Universal title.
00:38:43Post-Shield life for both of these men has been very fruitful.
00:38:49But it feels like we're at a family reunion.
00:38:55The following contest scheduled for one fall is for the Universal Championship!
00:39:08Introducing the challenger from Davenport, Iowa, weighing in at 217 pounds,
00:39:16Seth freaking Rollins!
00:39:27And his opponent, from Pensacola, Florida, weighing in at 265 pounds,
00:39:34he is the Universal Champion, Roman Reigns!
00:39:45It has been interesting, Pat, watching the body language of Roman Reigns throughout those
00:39:50introductions, muttering to himself at times.
00:39:53Honestly, Rollins seems to be in Roman's head.
00:39:57I think this is certainly a different Roman than we're used to seeing over his reign of dominance.
00:40:02So we kick off the 2022 Royal Rumble with the match between two former brothers.
00:40:11Roman Reigns in his record 516-day reign as Universal Champion.
00:40:16And Seth Rollins, donned in the old gear that they used to wear together in the Shield,
00:40:22set to do battle.
00:40:23Feels a little bit awkward without the Usos out here, but-
00:40:27Barred from ringside.
00:40:35And Roman Reigns quickly went after Rollins in the waist lock, and then the standing switch
00:40:39by Roman, and Seth Rollins quickly escapes.
00:40:42Seth Rollins has been doing this the last couple weeks to Roman, trying to get into Roman's head
00:40:47and mind, saying, I'm quicker than you, I'm faster than you.
00:40:50And again, draw Roman Reigns out of his comfort zone.
00:40:53Maybe Roman Reigns will make a mistake that Rollins can capitalize on.
00:40:58And now Roman Reigns pounding away on Rollins in the corner, but again, the quickness
00:41:02of Seth Rollins, the rights and lefts and the fruits to the midsection, and Rollins taking control.
00:41:11Seth Rollins finding the groove here early.
00:41:14Yeah, Seth Rollins, with a sling blade, takes down Roman Reigns.
00:41:18Gonna wonder if Seth Rollins feels comfortable back in the vest there.
00:41:22And Roman up over the top into the barricade.
00:41:24Remember, Rollins must pin or submit the champion to win the title.
00:41:28Countout disqualifications do no good for Seth Rollins.
00:41:31And here comes Seth Rollins with a suicide dive, Reigns into the barricade.
00:41:39Seth Rollins saying, there's more where that came from, how about a two-piece?
00:41:44And Rollins pulling out all the stops early.
00:41:48And Roman Reigns has not been able to get out of the blocks in this matchup.
00:41:52And on the flip side, Seth Rollins has come out storming.
00:41:57Incoming Rollins, climbing Reigns into the barricade.
00:42:01Hit both of those suicide dives flush on our champion.
00:42:06And Rollins, he's just confidence oozing out of his pores.
00:42:11Cuz he's got the champ on the ropes early.
00:42:14There's no stress at all.
00:42:16Rollins off the top rope, runs into a right hand.
00:42:19That's what we came for.
00:42:21And the five-time world champion drops Rollins.
00:42:25Remember, Roman Reigns has not been able to knock off Rollins in a big time matchup in his career.
00:42:33Roman might have been playing possum there, setting Seth Rollins up.
00:42:36He got very comfortable, now it's time for him.
00:42:38And Roman with a drive-by to Rollins.
00:42:41And just like that, the Universal Champion has turned the match around.
00:42:46Taking a page out of The Great Undertaker's book, drive-by boots to Seth Rollins' face.
00:42:53Roman Reigns, Rollins stumbling around out here at ringside after getting the boots to the face.
00:43:01Big right hand, boots to the mouth, Roman Reigns is finding his happy place.
00:43:07Roman Reigns off the steps, Rollins caught him with a boot to the midsection.
00:43:12And Seth Rollins with Roman Reigns up high.
00:43:15Rollins with a shield bomb, a shield bomb through the table.
00:43:24Out of nowhere.
00:43:26Rollins and Ambrose and Reigns used to do that to so many opponents over the years.
00:43:31And Seth Rollins does it to the champ tonight.
00:43:35The pure destruction.
00:43:37Pat, look at this, Rollins realizes count out doesn't help him.
00:43:40Got to get Reigns back in the ring, and that's what he does.
00:43:44This table exploded upon impact.
00:43:47Now Seth's on the top, Rupp looking for the Universal Champion.
00:43:52For Rollins, cover for the title.
00:43:54Can he do it, Reigns has got to kick it too.
00:44:03This thing took a turn quick.
00:44:06No Usos out here to encourage Reigns.
00:44:09No Paul Heyman to give counsel to the Universal Champion.
00:44:13Roman does it alone here tonight, and he's in trouble against Rollins.
00:44:17Seth Rollins countering everything Roman has to throw at him.
00:44:21Seth Rollins knows Roman better than Roman knows himself is what Seth is saying.
00:44:26Seth's on the top.
00:44:27What the hell is Seth thinking about doing now?
00:44:30Rollins with a move.
00:44:31Oh, had to roll through.
00:44:33Roman Reigns went for a spear and got caught with a boot in the face.
00:44:36Whoa.
00:44:37A big right from Seth.
00:44:40Swinging neckbreaker.
00:44:41No. Low right from the back of the neck.
00:44:44And now, middle of the ring, Seth Rollins down with Roman Reigns up top.
00:44:50Continues the assault with a buckle ball.
00:44:54And now Rollins looking for the stop.
00:44:57Rollins hit the stop.
00:44:58Rollins hit the stop.
00:45:00No. He's gonna beat the champ.
00:45:01He's gonna beat the champ.
00:45:02He got him.
00:45:03He can go.
00:45:05I thought he had him.
00:45:09That was so damn close.
00:45:13No prognosticator could have expected Seth Rollins to not only do a shield bomb,
00:45:19a buckle bomb, then a stop.
00:45:21Watch this, man.
00:45:22To the back of Roman's head.
00:45:24Let's check this out.
00:45:25Shoulders are down for one, for two.
00:45:27And at two and a half, almost two and three quarters, Roman Reigns got the shoulder up.
00:45:33I'd be lying if I said I didn't worry that the Reigns reign was about to come to a crashing
00:45:39end.
00:45:40But that grit, that resiliency of Roman is what has made him the champion for so long.
00:45:47And now the cerebral Rollins, the calculating architect decides what to do next.
00:45:54The visionary.
00:45:56Everything's been going to plan thus far.
00:46:02Rollins measuring his opponent, Reigns slow to his feet.
00:46:05Seth Rollins out of the corner, runs into a clothesline, which turns him inside out.
00:46:10And now the champion has an opportunity to regroup, to refocus.
00:46:15For how great Seth Rollins is.
00:46:18It's moments like these where Roman Reigns displays his dominance.
00:46:23Baited Seth into thinking another stop was available instead, a clothesline from hell.
00:46:30And now Roman Reigns realizing it's a desperate time.
00:46:42Critical turning point in this matchup as Roman Reigns melts Rollins and now unloads to the rights.
00:46:48Years of angst in these blows to the head from Roman Reigns.
00:46:53Reigns found the opening he needed.
00:46:58Charles Robinson trying to find a little bit of sanity in the middle of this battle.
00:47:05Roman Reigns is snapped.
00:47:08Up top and down with a power bomb.
00:47:11Cover by Roman to retain and a kick out.
00:47:19Growns coming out of Seth freaking Rollins.
00:47:24After this incredible display of power.
00:47:26Watch the impact, spine-jarring powerbomb.
00:47:33And now listen to Roman.
00:47:37You were shitting everything we did, huh?
00:47:40It was funny to you, huh?
00:47:42You gonna laugh at me, huh?
00:47:45And Rollins continuing to mock and laugh at Reigns and continuing to infuriate the champion.
00:47:51Get out, look at this, go for a triangle.
00:47:56Roman's trying to maybe get the champ to tap.
00:47:58Come on, Roman.
00:48:00Arm is locked.
00:48:02Center of the ring, Reigns has nowhere to go.
00:48:07And the only chance Roman may have, Pat, is to power out of this if he can.
00:48:11And that's what the Tribal Chief does.
00:48:15The head of the table.
00:48:22He's in God mode now, Seth.
00:48:24Yeah, you noticed the expression change, didn't you?
00:48:29That expression doesn't look like God to me, however, Pat.
00:48:32It looks like something else.
00:48:33Well, and Seth's face is no longer laughing, is it?
00:48:41Roman driving, Rollins into the post shoulder first, and Rollins collapses.
00:48:47Rollins' bones like a carcass falling outside of the ring.
00:48:51And Roman Reigns, the alpha, stalking.
00:48:56And sending Rollins into the timekeeper's area.
00:49:02That vest was a sign of great days for these two men.
00:49:07It's also a detriment when Roman Reigns says, get your ass through the stairs.
00:49:12Roman Reigns is on the hunt.
00:49:18Years of comeuppance, payback for the coward move from Seth freaking Rollins years ago.
00:49:25Laughing in Roman's face.
00:49:27You're in Roman's world now, Seth.
00:49:35Acknowledge him, St. Louis.
00:49:39As Pat mentioned, Roman wants to be acknowledged, locked and loaded.
00:49:44Superman punch on the jaw, cover for the win to retain.
00:49:49The reign continues now, kick it, two by Rollins.
00:49:54Seth lost the tooth on that one.
00:49:58Picture perfect Superman punch.
00:50:04Watch this, Pat.
00:50:05This could have been right on the jaw.
00:50:09That could have been curtains right there, Pat.
00:50:12Somehow Seth finds a way to kick out.
00:50:15And Rollins just rolling out of the ring to buy himself some time.
00:50:20Hey, welcome to the Royal Rumble.
00:50:23Match one, instant classic, watching the GOAT versus the Visionary.
00:50:27Both of these men, great success in this event.
00:50:29They both have each won a Royal Rumble match in their careers.
00:50:39Roman, now this is the pace Roman likes, Pat.
00:50:43Methodical, taking his time, measuring his man.
00:50:48Right in front of us, Reigns quickly dragging his former partner,
00:50:54tossing him into the ring.
00:50:55He's methodical until he needs to be.
00:51:09One for the spear, caught pedigree.
00:51:12A pedigree counter by Rollins.
00:51:15Off an attempted spear.
00:51:18Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship, and a big upset tonight.
00:51:22A kick out of two by Roman.
00:51:27Holy, what a counter by Seth Rollins.
00:51:32These two superstars have already been called among the greats of hours of this generation.
00:51:38And this match is one of the reasons why.
00:51:40Look at the counter into the pedigree.
00:51:43And we all know who's move, the pedigree is,
00:51:47who's a part of this entire storyline from the beginning.
00:51:50Exactly, Triple H, the man who manipulated Rollins into turning on the shield.
00:52:02And this is now Seth Rollins' chance to end the historic title reign of Roman.
00:52:14The Burn It Down champs ringing through the dome.
00:52:20Went with a stop, sidestep by Roman.
00:52:24Countered.
00:52:26Rollins fighting back again.
00:52:29Kick to the head, kick to the head.
00:52:32Setting Roman up with more and more.
00:52:35Yeah, but Roman fires out of it.
00:52:39Spamered by Reigns.
00:52:44Reigns almost cut Rollins in half.
00:52:50Now Roman dragging himself.
00:52:53And Rollins still laughing at the champ.
00:52:57This dude is delirious right now in St. Louis.
00:53:05Asking for a fist bump.
00:53:08I always love you.
00:53:11The fist bump made famous by the shield.
00:53:16Rollins continues to mock the champion.
00:53:22Stay focused, Roman.
00:53:27So many thoughts have to be running through Roman's head.
00:53:31What could have been?
00:53:33What is?
00:53:34And why is this dude laughing in my face right now?
00:53:37Come on, huh?
00:53:42And Roman Reigns now put him in the guillotine.
00:53:45The guillotine in the center of the ring put out so many men during this historic title reign.
00:53:49Except Rollins is in trouble.
00:53:51Roman's got the guillotine locked.
00:53:53Will Rollins tap?
00:53:58Roman's got that thing locked in deep.
00:54:00The only chance Rollins has is to somehow drag himself to the rope and force of Blake.
00:54:07But Roman's got it locked in good.
00:54:10Is that 3G?
00:54:12Rollins a fingertip away, fingertip away.
00:54:15But Rollins is fading.
00:54:17Rollins may be down and out.
00:54:21The official Charles Robinson is gonna check on the challenger.
00:54:25Rollins though, his head lands on the rope.
00:54:28Reigns has got a break.
00:54:30What happened, Michael Cole?
00:54:34Reigns has got a break.
00:54:36He's got a five count to break, guillotine locked in.
00:54:39Roman Reigns is not gonna break.
00:54:41Reigns is gonna be disqualified.
00:54:44What?
00:54:50He deserves this.
00:54:52He deserves this.
00:54:53Let go of me, man.
00:54:57Let go of me, that's enough.
00:54:59That's enough.
00:55:00He won't allow me to let go.
00:55:02He won't allow me.
00:55:04Here we go, please.
00:55:06Come on.
00:55:07Roman Reigns refusing to break the guillotine.
00:55:12Finally does after Seth Rollins pushed Roman over the edge.
00:55:18Charles Robinson picks up the lifeless hand of Seth Rollins, puts it on the rope.
00:55:23Then a five count happens.
00:55:25Roman was just doing what Roman does.
00:55:27And Roman's still, this is his goal.
00:55:34Roman's somehow trying to regain control, claiming it was Rollins that pushed him to that point.
00:55:45Onlookers screaming that Roman can't beat Seth freaking Rollins.
00:55:50He had him beat.
00:55:53He had him beat.
00:56:20Seth Rollins made this personal.
00:56:25Years ago, and then again in the lead-up to tonight.
00:56:30Seth Rollins almost beat the Universal Champion tonight.
00:56:40He may have survived the guillotine, but Roman Reigns snapped.
00:56:49He's not done yet.
00:56:57Seth was laughing in his face.
00:57:01Seth disrespected his entire bloodline, his entire family.
00:57:07You can't blame Roman Reigns for saying,
00:57:09let's end this right now.
00:57:21Chair to the spine.
00:57:25How do you like it, Seth?
00:57:28And again, and Rollins being laid out by Reigns in a chair.
00:57:39Somebody's gotta stop this.
00:57:47Nobody can stop what's happening to Seth Rollins.
00:58:17The Roman Reigns.
00:58:32I don't think he's done yet.
00:58:34He's talking to himself.
00:58:36You took a piece of me, you took a piece of me, you took a piece of me.
00:58:42But now I have to take him.
00:58:44You can't take it from the triangle, you can't take it from the triangle.
00:58:47And again.
00:58:52I hate this vicious, a buggy by Reigns.
00:58:58Look at the chair.
00:59:12Roman Reigns is proud of the destruction.
00:59:18He has laid upon Seth freaking Rollins.
00:59:32For Roman Reigns, Pat, that attack had to be cathartic.
00:59:39To end this tonight with a steel chair, in the same way that Seth Rollins handed the shield.
00:59:47He's still talking to himself, Tom.
00:59:58What is Roman speaking to himself about?
01:00:03He walks out of here as universal champion yet again.
01:00:07But that was nowhere near the same Roman Reigns we have seen for 500 plus days.
01:00:21Roman's historic grip on the championship will continue.
