For the final installment of 'Back or Banish?', we look at the TaylorMade ZTP wedge. With its replaceable faceplate, the idea was to give golfers fresh grooves without buying a new club. We explore the tech, the feel, and why it never really took off.

00:00Right for the final installment of Back or Banish we're throwing it right back to 2008 and as you
00:05can see we're here on the wedge rack and specifically we're talking about the tailor-made
00:10ZTP. Now if you remember these wedges they were unique at the time and they still would be now
00:14for the fact that they had replaceable face sections so two screws in the back you can
00:20unscrew those take the face plate out and put a new one back in the idea being that it would
00:25be
00:25easier rather than having to replace your whole wedge if your spin was dropping off or the wedge
00:31face was wearing out you could put a new wedge face in and get basically the spin and performance
00:36of a brand new wedge. Now suffice to say the concept didn't really take off don't get me wrong I
00:41think
00:41these wedges performed really well from memory back in the day I don't think the feel was necessarily
00:46as good as it could have been and I just don't think the economics really made sense I think if
00:50by the time you've sort of used a wedge for long enough where the face needs replacing the chances
00:55are the rest of the head's probably going to need replacing as well there's probably going to be
00:58some damage on the sole and various other parts of the wedge. Now if you want to try the ZTP
01:02wedge
01:03for yourself you can head over here to Goldflops for Cash they've got one for just £43 however if you
01:07do want some new wedges and you like tailor-made I'd probably steer towards some of the other options
01:11available whether it's the MG3, MG4 you've got some high toe options as well I think they're going to
01:16probably serve you better over time but I think it's probably time to decide what we're going to
01:20do with this ZTP wedge and I'm afraid I'm going to banish it into history.
