00:00And how about that drive for Andy Dalton?
00:08Steel comes out of the backfield.
00:10Another play-action fake, and that is a tough cover for Dingle,
00:15the Bengals' linebacker, because he had to run out to the flat.
00:18There was some traffic there.
00:20Like that design from Sean Mannion,
00:23the Eagles' offensive coordinator to get Steel open,
00:26he was wide open a number of times last week.
00:28That's one of the best things we've seen from this Eagles' offense
00:32through three games, looking back open on the perimeter.
00:36Second touchdown of the preseason for Carson Steele,
00:39and Jake Elliott's extra point is good.
00:42With 2.42 to go in the third quarter,
00:46they've got a three-point game on CBS.
00:57Eagles fans with something to smile about
01:00as Philadelphia has a touchdown, 16-13 the score.
01:05Two touchdowns on the last couple of drives in this game.
01:11Look at that.
01:14Let's hope we see a few more.
01:20Williams.
01:26Along with Brentwell.
01:28This one bounces into the end zone.
01:30And it will be a touchback.
01:33Oh, Ross, I know you had a tough summer on the beach, down the shore.
01:38Tell me what you learned this summer.
01:40Well, I did a deep dive into analytics
01:43with a bunch of analytics guys from around the league.
01:46Certainly, these two teams try to do more under center.
01:49Teams using tight ends a lot more,
01:51loving what they get from key tackles.
01:53And 21 new offensive coordinators is just bananas.
01:57I mean, two-thirds of the league,
01:59you just don't ever see that
02:01where there's that many new offensive coordinators.
02:05It's going to make for an exciting year
02:06because a lot of them are new,
02:08so you don't really know what you're going to get out of them,
02:10especially these first couple weeks.
02:11They're not showing their good stuff now.
02:14That's the thing.
02:15You just, everyone's soaking out.
02:16There's no game planning in the preseason.
02:19So week one should be a wild ride,
02:21as it always is in the NFL.
02:26Six-yard pickup on first down for Kentrell Bullock
02:29with two and a half to go in the third quarter.
02:32Now we have an injured eagle down on the field.
02:42Nick Sirianni is going to come out.
02:44Can't quite see the number just yet.
02:53And there is some concern
02:55on the faces of those eagle defenders
02:57as many of them have taken a knee.
03:07See 31 Andre Sam out there.
03:14We'll take a break and come right back.
03:18The injured eagle is safety Andre Sam,
03:22and the card has come out to take him out.
03:24He got a nice ovation from the fans,
03:27and you can see what he means to his teammates.
03:29They were looking at his leg,
03:33and then he waves,
03:35but it appears to be a serious injury for Andre Sam.
03:41Well, you certainly hate seeing an injury
03:44where a guy gets carved off.
03:46You can see he's emotional.
03:50We hate seeing that for anybody,
03:51but he was having a terrific game.
03:55And that's a position where the Eagles are a little thin.
03:59And he might, you know,
04:00he might be there for safety.
04:04Two fumble recoveries tonight for Sam,
04:06also a forced fumble.
04:09And you're right,
04:10that is a position for the Philly defense
04:12that's a little thin.
04:13Sam was having a nice night
04:15to make a case for him.
04:16Sticking around.
04:17Hopefully he's okay.
04:212-14 and counting here in the third quarter.
04:24Second down and four
04:25for Sean Clifford and the Bengals.
04:31Play action,
04:32but before that,
04:33a penalty marker comes in.
04:35And a false start against Cincinnati.
04:38False start for 79 offense.
04:41Five-yard penalty.
04:42Second down.
04:43It's on Andrew Coker,
04:45who's spent the last two years
04:47on the Bengals practice squad.
04:51He's had some other penalties this preseason.
04:54Just a little overanxious.
04:56You know,
04:56when you're an offensive lineman,
04:58you try to jump the count
05:00as much as you can.
05:02You try to anticipate the count.
05:03That's your advantage.
05:06Usually the D-line,
05:07and they're better athletes than you,
05:09your advantage is,
05:10you know the snap counts,
05:12you should be able to get
05:12a slight head start.
05:14Eagles might be bringing
05:16pressure up the middle here.
05:20Here comes the pressure.
05:22Clifford on the move,
05:23throwing on the run,
05:24and it's broken up.
05:30Ambry Thomas
05:32got a hand on that one
05:33for the Philadelphia defense.
05:38So I thought they might bring a blitz
05:40because they had the D-tackles widen.
05:44You see Clifford at the end of the play
05:47takes a shot
05:48as he delivers the ball
05:51from Gabe Hall.
05:54The two D-tackles for the Eagles widen.
05:57I thought they were going to come
05:57with a linebacker blitz,
05:59but they widened
05:59because they wanted to run a stunt.
06:01They're pretty wide here again
06:02on third and nine.
06:03Now they shift.
06:06Clifford looking left,
06:07throws left incomplete
06:08in the vicinity of Keyshawn Williams,
06:11but Cincinnati will punt.
06:15Clifford's a little banged up
06:16after that shot he took.
06:18You can see
06:20he is laboring.
06:30First punt tonight
06:31for Ryan Rico.
06:36He was second in the NFL
06:37a year ago
06:38with a 50.5 average.
06:41And Makai Lemon
06:42looks like he's back
06:43to receive the punt.
06:44He hasn't played on offense
06:45in a while,
06:46but the rookie first round pick is deep.
06:48He's been practicing
06:49returning punts
06:50before and after practice
06:52all week long.
06:52Did it a little bit at USC.
06:54Drops it,
06:55picks it up,
06:56and now he
06:57is dropped.
07:00You look at last year,
07:02Lemon returned six punts
07:03for the Trojans.
07:06Well, let's take a look
07:07at some offseason headlines.
07:09John Harbaugh hired
07:10as the new Giants head coach,
07:12one of ten coaching changes
07:13in the NFL.
07:14Aaron Rodgers
07:15is going to run it back
07:16for one more year,
07:17and Andy Goldberg,
07:20our director,
07:20got married this summer
07:22with his beautiful bride,
07:24Jennifer,
07:25and Andy had no idea
07:26this picture was about
07:27to be on television.
07:29It was a wonderful wedding.
07:31Congratulations
07:32to Andy and Jennifer.
07:34It's the only way
07:35we can sneak it in there.
07:37We had to bury the wedding
07:39behind Harbaugh
07:40and Aaron Rodgers.
07:42How many broadcasts
07:44do you think
07:44have pictures
07:46during the game
07:47of two separate weddings?
07:48Could be a first.
07:49Might be a last,
07:51actually, too.
07:55Clifford
07:56is shaking up,
07:57as Ross pointed out
07:58on that last play.
08:01Appears to be okay
08:02on the bench
08:03as Andy Dalton
08:04is back to work
08:04for the Philadelphia
08:05offense.
08:20He's caught by
08:21Stone Smart.
08:22The tight end
08:23has had a nice summer
08:24here with the Eagles.
08:25He picks up six.
08:27Stone Smart's
08:28had some good games
08:29when he played
08:30for the Chargers.
08:32Lemon talking
08:33with Devontae Smith
08:34after he kind of
08:35muffed that punt,
08:36was able to recover it,
08:38but still not
08:39clean feeling the ball.
08:41You know,
08:42the Eagles must have
08:43some idea
08:43that there's a chance
08:44he would do it.
08:45They would not put him
08:46out here at the end
08:46of the third quarter
08:47to do that
08:48unless they thought
08:49they might need him
08:50in that role
08:50at some point
08:51this year.
08:53And that's going
08:54to be the end
08:55of the third quarter.
08:56So one quarter
08:57to go
08:57in the 2026
08:59NFL preseason
09:01here in Philadelphia.
09:04Bengals 16,
09:06Eagles 13
09:07on CBS.
09:14Start of the fourth quarter
09:16here in Philadelphia
09:17on a beautiful
09:18summer night.
09:19Cincinnati leads
09:20by three
09:21and we set it
09:22right off the top.
09:23Last chance
09:24to impress
09:25and either make
09:25the roster
09:26or maybe make
09:27the practice squad,
09:28Ross.
09:29Well,
09:29and that's a
09:29significant difference.
09:31Look at the
09:31monetary difference
09:32between the roster
09:34and the practice squad.
09:37And then
09:38I think these guys
09:39would tell you
09:39the even bigger difference
09:41is practice squad
09:43and nothing
09:43and trying to figure out
09:45what you're going to do
09:45next in life.
09:46And there's a lot
09:47of guys out here
09:48right now
09:49that are hoping
09:49that's not the case
09:50for them.
09:51Dalton throwing
09:52on the run
09:53and it is caught.
09:55Good catch
09:56by Danny Gray
09:58in a gain of 12.
10:01Gray a little slow
10:02to get up
10:02but he's now
10:03made a couple plays.
10:05He's staying
10:06in the game.
10:08Even though
10:09it looked like
10:10he was pointing
10:10to his chest
10:11he dove
10:11and landed
10:12on the football.
10:13that can be
10:13super painful.
10:17Dalton fumbled
10:18the snap
10:18and multiple flags
10:19come in.
10:20And some movement
10:22before the snap.
10:23Ball start
10:24number 63
10:25offense.
10:26Five-yard penalty.
10:27First out.
10:29on Zeke Corral
10:32second year center
10:34out of NC State.
10:36Watch the snap.
10:38Yeah.
10:41Double double clutched it.
10:44Zeke Corral was a guy
10:46they signed
10:46midway through
10:47the pregame walkthrough
10:49last Friday
10:50before they played
10:51with the Patriots
10:51who walked out
10:52and was introducing
10:52himself to his teammates.
10:54Now he's out there.
10:56Second Eagles penalty
10:57as that pass
10:58is caught by Smart.
11:00Dejan Anthony
11:01on the tackle
11:02for Cincinnati.
11:03Well that's a positive.
11:04He said only
11:05the second Eagles penalty.
11:09The end of these games
11:10they're trying to see
11:11okay what are the pros
11:12what are the cons.
11:13They'll be very happy
11:14about Jake Elliott
11:15making those field goals.
11:16They cut down on penalties.
11:18When we asked Nick Sirianni
11:19how he knew
11:21whether or not
11:21they were making progress
11:22he said they track
11:23all types of things
11:24mental errors penalties
11:26and they're getting better
11:27in all of them.
11:28Dalton pump takes
11:29now throws
11:31completes it for a short
11:32pickup.
11:33Talk about the penalties
11:34as Quez Watkins
11:35reeled that one in.
11:36First two preseason games
11:38Nick Sirianni's team
11:39averaged eight penalties
11:40in 73 yards per outing.
11:45Third and ten.
11:46This is where Andy Dalton's
11:48trying to earn a job
11:50somewhere in this league
11:51and maybe even here in Philly
11:52as the number two.
11:54We'll see if this third
11:56string offensive line
11:57can hold up
11:57and give him enough time
11:59to try to fire a strike.
12:01Lady, let's have!
12:10Dalton incomplete.
12:11Was chased on the play
12:12by Landon Robinson.
12:14The rookie defensive tackle
12:16out of Navy
12:17and out comes the Eagles punt team.
12:21Got to be kind of weird
12:23for Bengals fans
12:24to see Andy Dalton
12:25playing in the fourth quarter
12:26of a preseason game.
12:28I mean, he was their starter
12:29for eight or nine years.
12:31Nine years.
12:32And had a lot of success.
12:35Probably didn't play a whole lot
12:37in most of those preseason games
12:38and now here he is
12:39for the other team
12:40playing in the fourth quarter
12:41trying to keep his football
12:42career and life going.
12:44His 16th year in the NFL.
12:47Williams on the return
12:48for Cincinnati.
12:49Running start.
12:51And he's hit just shy
12:52of the 25-yard line
12:53and that's where
12:54the Bengals' offense
12:55will go back to work
12:57early fourth quarter
12:58here on CBS.
13:02Back in Philadelphia
13:03early fourth quarter
13:05Saquon Barkley
13:06will begin his third season
13:07with the Eagles
13:08and he's down on the sideline
13:09with A.J. Ross.
13:10That's right.
13:11His ninth season overall.
13:12Third with the Eagles.
13:14I don't know if it feels
13:15like it's been
13:15nine seasons for you.
13:16How are you feeling
13:17with your body?
13:18Did you do anything
13:18different this offseason
13:19to get ready?
13:21Yeah, definitely don't feel
13:22like nine already.
13:23It's flying by.
13:24My body feels great.
13:27Our strength staff,
13:28our coaches did a really good job
13:29but created a game plan
13:30for me in this offseason
13:33and camp
13:34and just been
13:36staying true to that,
13:37working hard
13:37and feeling super ready
13:39for the season.
13:40Got a new offense,
13:41new offensive coordinator
13:42in Sean Mannion.
13:43I know you had some
13:43conversations with
13:44all-pro Todd Gurley
13:46who's familiar with
13:47some elements of this offense.
13:48How much more comfortable
13:49did that make you feel?
13:50Definitely a lot
13:51comfortable.
13:51It's cool to be able
13:52to go directly to the source
13:54when you watch a film
13:54and growing up
13:56being a big fan of Todd
13:57and seeing how he was
13:58able to produce.
14:00But yeah,
14:01just getting familiar
14:02with Sean's offense
14:03and that's what we're
14:04doing right now
14:05in camp.
14:05We're grinding,
14:06taking it day by day,
14:07getting 1% better.
14:09We know Sean
14:10and all the coaches
14:11have put a lot of hard work in
14:12and they're going to put us
14:12in a great position.
14:13And we got to go out there
14:14and make the plays.
14:15Speaking of making plays,
14:16Carson Steele made yet another.
14:18You just immediately lit up.
14:20You were one of the first guys
14:21along the sideline
14:22to dap him up
14:23when he came over.
14:24You are by far
14:25the king of hurdling
14:26in the NFL.
14:27How would you rank
14:28his hurdles
14:29and his play?
14:30I wouldn't say I'm the king.
14:32I would give it to Todd Gurley
14:34and Ezekiel Elliott.
14:35Those are the ones
14:36that did it before me.
14:37But I think he's doing
14:39a great job
14:40of making plays
14:41and not just hurdling people
14:42but making plays.
14:43And Carson,
14:43he's a bright light
14:44in our room.
14:45He's a heck of a guy,
14:46a heck of a player.
14:47I call him a little door.
14:49He looks like Thor to me.
14:50That's why we're catching
14:52the hammer
14:53when we do our little handshake.
14:54But it's cool
14:55and it's what the preseason's about.
14:57You're out here,
14:58you're trying to make a team
14:59but you're also performing
15:00for 31 other teams.
15:02You want to see guys
15:03go out there
15:03and make plays
15:04and be able to get on the team
15:05and provide for family.
15:07Carson's an interesting guy
15:08off the field.
15:09Have you met Crocky J?
15:10I haven't.
15:11I think because of state rules
15:13he can't bring his pet
15:14and crack him out here.
15:15So I look forward to
15:17in the future
15:17maybe meeting him.
15:18I definitely will be
15:19keeping my distance
15:21when he brings him around.
15:22But yeah,
15:23I think that's pretty cool
15:24that he's able to have
15:25a pet crocodile.
15:26It's pretty cool
15:27that you always find a way
15:28to give back.
15:29And you hosted
15:29and coached
15:30a youth flag football tournament
15:32earlier this summer.
15:34What was the best part
15:35about pouring into those kids
15:36and them pouring into you?
15:38One,
15:38it was my first coaching experience.
15:41I got a little too involved
15:43in a little bit
15:43but it's just fun to see
15:45where the game is going
15:46and I'm happy about
15:47flag football
15:48and what flag football
15:49is able to bring.
15:50One,
15:50I was able to do
15:51a flag football event
15:52against USA Today
15:53so seeing how
15:55the level that they're
15:56taking it to
15:57and how global it is
15:58and then the game
15:59is able to bring
16:00women involved into it
16:01and I was able to coach
16:02my daughter's flag football
16:03team this year.
16:04But it's great.
16:05It's just great for the game
16:06and I'm all about
16:06growing the game
16:07and flag football
16:08is another way
16:09people can get involved
16:10so it's pretty cool.
16:11Thanks so much,
16:11Saquon.
16:12We're looking forward
16:12to you this season
16:13and your daughter
16:13being a star one day
16:14as well.
16:17That's good stuff.
16:18Thank you so much,
16:19AJ and thank you
16:19to Saquon
16:20for the time.
16:22Always giving back
16:22to the community.
16:24This is Jamal Haynes
16:25who has shown a burst
16:27so far in this drive
16:28for Cincinnati
16:29a gain of nine
16:30right there.
16:35Haynes was a receiver
16:37in college
16:38for Georgia Tech
16:39earlier in his career
16:42which is interesting
16:43given his height.
16:44that he was a receiver
16:46and he kept those legs
16:47churning.
16:49And right about now
16:50Andrews when I'm looking
16:51at a lot of these guys
16:53and wondering how many
16:54of them are playing
16:56their last football game.
16:58Some of them might know it.
17:00Most of them probably don't.
17:02But that's one of the
17:03unfortunate realities
17:04of pro football.
17:06He was undrafted
17:07out of Georgia Tech
17:08and tripped up there.
17:10There's no doubt
17:10about 90 guys on a roster.
17:1253 make the team.
17:13Practice squads.
17:15Spots available.
17:16But there's going to be
17:17a whole lot of free agents
17:18over the next 48 hours.
17:21Both coaches said
17:22you know that this could be
17:24the difference between
17:24two or three guys
17:25on the roster.
17:27And Zach Taylor said
17:28maybe even half
17:29of the practice squad.
17:30He'll get together
17:30with Duke Tobin
17:32who heads up
17:33the personnel department
17:34for the Bengals.
17:35They feel like they do
17:36it the right way
17:37as collaborative
17:38as any team
17:39in the league
17:41to try to figure out
17:42which guys get to be
17:43part of that 16-man
17:45practice squad.
17:45It was five
17:46when I was a player.
17:48Clifford Friar sideline.
17:49He's got a first down.
17:54Kendrick Pryor
17:55bringing that one
17:58in for the Bengals.
17:59A gain of six.
18:02Pryor's coming in motion.
18:03Going to be at the top
18:04of your screen.
18:05He knows where the stick is
18:07and just runs the
18:08comeback route
18:09right at it.
18:10If you're Ambrey Thomas,
18:12he's one of those guys
18:13that's trying to keep
18:13his football career
18:14going.
18:15You cannot give
18:16that much of a cushion,
18:17especially third
18:19and whatever that was.
18:20You know he's probably
18:22running around
18:23at the sticks.
18:26Play action for Clifford.
18:29He'll take the check down.
18:31Good sign that Jack
18:32Injuries is back in there
18:33but he loses the football
18:34and Philadelphia has it.
18:39Picked up by Brandon
18:40George and then he's
18:42tackled.
18:42Now we have flags down.
18:44Remember it was Injuries
18:45who left earlier
18:46with an injury.
18:47Number 38 defense.
18:49Five-yard penalty.
18:50Automatic push down.
18:51And all for naught
18:52as Ambrey Thomas
18:53is called for the penalty.
18:54And the Eagles
18:55are celebrating.
18:56A lot of these guys
18:57still didn't hear
18:58what the officials said.
18:59They're all excited.
19:01They don't know.
19:01Hey guys,
19:02you're still on defense.
19:03Watch Ambrey Thomas
19:04on the deep cross there.
19:06You see just enough
19:07of a tug of the jersey.
19:09And that's something
19:10that DB start to do
19:12when they start to lose
19:13their confidence a little bit.
19:15He got beat deep
19:16for a touchdown
19:17by Kyle Williams last week
19:19and these guys on defense
19:22are totally gassed, Andrew.
19:24They ran all the way
19:25down the field
19:25to celebrate the turnover
19:27and now they're still out there.
19:28You got to check
19:29for the laundry.
19:30Check for the flag
19:31first before you do
19:32the big celebration.
19:33This is the chance
19:34to go deep.
19:35Burn them deep
19:36because they're tired
19:37and still they run.
19:39Good run here
19:40by Kentrell Bullock.
19:41First down and more.
19:43Bullock, nice cutback.
19:44Still on his feet
19:45at the 25.
19:46Cuts back again.
19:48Kentrell Bullock
19:49with a beautiful run.
19:51The undrafted rookie
19:52out of South Alabama
19:53goes for 25.
19:55And he got an awesome block
19:56from Javon Foster
19:58who started the game
19:59and has been playing
20:00the whole game
20:01at left tackle.
20:02number 73.
20:04Take a look at Foster here.
20:0573.
20:06He's going to feel
20:07the defender go inside
20:08and let him drive him
20:10in there.
20:10Terrific job by the receiver
20:11as well.
20:13But Javon Foster,
20:15the diehard Bengals fans
20:16that are still watching,
20:17they know how important he is.
20:19Right now,
20:21he's in the lead
20:22to be the swing tackle.
20:23So he's a play away
20:24from protecting Joe Burrow
20:27on either side.
20:29Whether it's for
20:29Orlando Brown Jr.
20:31or a Marius Mims.
20:35Cincinnati has called
20:36a timeout with 820 to go
20:38and certainly that was
20:39one thing that Zach Taylor
20:40told us he was keeping an eye
20:41on today.
20:42That swing tackle position.
20:44Foster and Jalen Rivers
20:45in the mix.
20:47There you see Rivers.
20:48Yeah, Rivers started the game
20:49at right tackle
20:50and now he's playing left guard.
20:52Started a bunch of games
20:52at guard
20:53for the Bengals last year
20:55and most of the offensive line
20:57for Cincinnati
20:58is playing the whole game.
21:00They know who's battling
21:01for roster spots.
21:03They know who their backups are
21:04and they've decided
21:06we just want those guys
21:07to get as many reps as possible.
21:09We don't need to put other guys in
21:10or guys we're going to cut.
21:12Let's leave the guys in there
21:13that might have to actually play
21:15in football games for us this year.
21:18Why not?
21:19More film,
21:20more things they can evaluate
21:22before 6 o'clock on Sunday.
21:24Yeah, they're all young
21:25and they don't have
21:26all that much experience
21:27so the Bengals
21:28trying to make sure
21:29this young court
21:30listen,
21:31if you're paying
21:31so many guys
21:32as much as they are
21:33at the top of the market
21:34you got to have backups
21:36that are cheap
21:36and these guys are on
21:37their rookie contracts.
21:40Well look again
21:41inside the 20.
21:43Caught from behind
21:44on the play by David Bley
21:45this day after a run of five yards.
22:01359 yards of offense
22:02tonight for Cincinnati
22:03to 192 for Philadelphia
22:06and Clifford looking for more.
22:08He's five of eight for 53 yards
22:10and a touchdown.
22:11Feels like this Bengals
22:12offensive line is really
22:13starting to wear down.
22:14They're Eagles counterparts.
22:18Back to Bullock.
22:20Gets to the 15.
22:26T. Higgins saying
22:27earlier this week
22:28that he feels that this is
22:30on paper
22:31the best Bengals team
22:33that he's been on.
22:35And certainly
22:35as we talked about
22:36right off the top
22:37with some of the words
22:38Joe Burrow had
22:39and the moves
22:40that Cincinnati
22:41made in the offseason
22:42feels like
22:43as we said
22:43a big year
22:44and Cincinnati's
22:46going to be a team
22:46that is going to make
22:47some noise in that AFC.
22:49There's no question.
22:50I think a lot of people
22:52are picking them
22:53to win the AFC North
22:54and
22:55I might be one of them.
23:01Third and two.
23:04Clifford here comes
23:05the pressure
23:05throwing deep for injuries
23:07incomplete.
23:09Pryor was cutting
23:10across as well.
23:11Clifford took a shot
23:13by Zion Wilson
23:15the undrafted rookie
23:16from East Carolina.
23:19Clifford is not afraid.
23:21He'll throw it
23:22even though he knows
23:22he's about to get hit.
23:25And Zion Wilson
23:28is a unique story
23:30in and of itself
23:30but we got the Bengals
23:31going for it here
23:32on fourth and two.
23:34At a minimum
23:35this would be a great place
23:36for a hard count
23:37to try to get a free
23:39five yards.
23:44Clifford does have
23:45pretty good mobility
23:46if he needs to use it.
23:49Fourth and two
23:49they are going
23:50Clifford on the slant
23:51broken up on the play
23:53but a flag is down.
23:55Ambry Thomas
23:56again
23:58got his hand on it
23:59but this one
24:00is going to be
24:01pass interference
24:02against Philadelphia.
24:05Man he's having
24:07a rough drive.
24:09Pass interference
24:1038 defense
24:12spot foul
24:13automatic
24:14first foul.
24:16Top of your screen
24:18in breaking around
24:20he's okay there.
24:26the initial stab
24:27with his inside hand
24:28was good
24:29tough to see
24:30from that angle
24:31where his right arm
24:32was.
24:33He might have been
24:33hooking him
24:35from behind.
24:39You know I'm a big fan
24:40Andrew of when in doubt
24:41let him play.
24:43You're right though
24:44but a tough drive
24:45for Ambry Thomas
24:45after his tough game
24:46a week ago
24:47against New England.
24:48Here is Bullock.
24:51going back you said
24:52Zion Wilson
24:53a unique story
24:54is that because
24:55you began
24:56as an offensive lineman
24:57in college
24:58and now is playing
24:59defensive line
24:59or you got something
25:00else for me?
25:01No that's it.
25:01I've never heard of that
25:03before.
25:03The guy for four years
25:05in East Carolina
25:07was not able to get on
25:08the field
25:08as an offensive lineman.
25:10Did not get playing time
25:11was a backup.
25:13For his fifth year
25:13they said
25:14let's try him
25:14at D-line
25:15all of a sudden
25:16he has a breakout
25:18ends up having
25:19six sacks
25:20and plays
25:22so well
25:23that
25:23you know
25:24a lot of people
25:25wanted him
25:25he actually tried
25:26to go to Virginia
25:27and had a lawsuit
25:28that didn't go through
25:29and ended up
25:29signing with the Eagles.
25:31Bullock to the outside
25:32and he is in
25:33for the touchdown.
25:35Kentrell Bullock
25:36with a six yard
25:37touchdown run
25:38and Cincinnati
25:39increases its lead.
25:49Eagles lost
25:50contained
25:51right side
25:52of the screen
25:52Coker 79
25:54against
25:55Weru
25:5646.
25:58Weru's
25:59one of the
25:59international
26:02pathway players
26:05that just learned
26:06another lesson there.
26:07He knows
26:07he needs to be
26:08the contained player.
26:09He needs to set the edge.
26:11He did not do it there.
26:12He did not do it there.
26:14Easy touch
26:14down for the Bengals.
26:15Nick Pearson's
26:17extra point is good
26:18with 559 to go
26:20in the game
26:20in Cincinnati
26:21after an 11 play
26:2377 yard drive
26:25that took up
26:26over 7 minutes.
26:28Goes up by 10
26:30here in Philly.
26:34Wilson all excited
26:36in the promo.
26:37Nice to have him
26:38on the team
26:39this year.
26:40I think it's crazy.
26:41I had Kyle Long
26:42on my show recently.
26:43they played baseball
26:46and football
26:47against each other
26:48when they were
26:4812 and 13 years old
26:50and now they're
26:51on the NFL
26:52today together.
26:54Very cool.
26:56That is incredible.
26:57I need as many
26:58pictures and videos
27:00from those baseball
27:01and football games
27:01as possible.
27:03Kyle said he was not
27:04able to ever
27:04actually touch this.
27:07Tosh Washington on the
27:09return and stopped
27:10at the 20.
27:11But how about this
27:11week one slate
27:13on CBS?
27:15How about Buffalo
27:16at Houston?
27:17Could be a
27:19AFC playoff preview.
27:21Baltimore at Indy.
27:22New head coach
27:23Jesse Minter.
27:24You got Deshaun Watson
27:25starting for the Browns.
27:26Robert Sala
27:27against his old team.
27:29Kyler Murray
27:30now starts for Minnesota.
27:31and some new
27:33coordinators
27:33including Mike McDaniel
27:35with the L.A. Chargers.
27:36Yeah, I'll be in Houston
27:38and very much
27:39looking forward to it.
27:40We talked tonight
27:41about these two teams
27:42having Super Bowl
27:43aspirations.
27:44That's absolutely
27:45the case
27:46for the Houston Texans
27:47and the Buffalo Bills.
27:48Meanwhile, Carson Steel
27:49just keeps catching passes
27:50and getting yards.
27:53Well, you're with this team
27:54all summer, Ross
27:56calling the preseason games
27:57going to practices.
27:58Give me the Carson Steel odds
28:00for what lies ahead
28:01this weekend for him.
28:03Well, you know,
28:04Tank Bigsby did such a good job
28:06for the Eagles
28:07as the backup
28:09last year.
28:10He didn't play tonight
28:12which we really haven't
28:13touched on, Andrew
28:14but the guys that
28:15didn't play tonight
28:17that's a good sign.
28:18Great sign.
28:18You know, I mean
28:19for both teams
28:20both teams
28:21basically sat out
28:22their top 30 guys
28:24for the most part.
28:25The guys that have
28:26real roles for them
28:27like Dallas Goddard
28:28right there.
28:29So, neither Tank Bigsby
28:31nor Will Shipley
28:32played for the Eagles
28:33tonight.
28:34That's a great sign
28:34for them.
28:35So, that's three running
28:36backs right there.
28:38So, if you're the Eagles
28:39it really comes down
28:40to do you keep
28:41a fourth or not.
28:44And if you keep
28:45a fourth
28:45I think Carson Steel
28:46has a good shot
28:47but I also thought
28:48Damian Pierce
28:49you know, did some
28:50positive things
28:51when he was out there
28:52and it's kind of
28:54a crazy chess match
28:56over the next 48 hours
28:58because teams don't
28:59always necessarily
29:00keep the best 53.
29:02They're trying to keep
29:03the best 69
29:04with the practice squad.
29:06So, some of it
29:06has to do with
29:07who is most or least
29:09likely to get
29:10claimed off of waivers
29:12if you try to put them
29:12down in practice squad.
29:14On third and two
29:15Drew Dalton's pass
29:16is incomplete.
29:19And it looks like
29:20Nick Sirianni will keep
29:21the offense on the field
29:23with 4.51 to go.
29:24And I approve
29:25of that decision.
29:27Punning down ten
29:29with less than five minutes
29:30to go in the last preseason
29:31game on fourth and two
29:32helps nobody.
29:34But you see
29:35Harry Roseman
29:35down there on the sideline
29:36now having a conversation
29:38with Nick Sirianni already.
29:45Discussions have begun.
29:476 p.m. Sunday
29:48is the deadline
29:49to get down to 53.
29:51On fourth and two
29:52flag is down.
29:53Dalton's hit as he throws
29:54and it's incomplete.
29:56Let's see what
29:56this penalty is.
30:00And it's going to be
30:01against the offense.
30:07Illegal shift
30:08offense.
30:09The penalties decline.
30:11Fourth down
30:11passes incomplete.
30:12Change of possession
30:13on downs.
30:14First down Cincinnati.
30:19Cincinnati defense
30:20gets the job done.
30:21Yeah and those
30:21are the type of penalties
30:22that really drive
30:23Sirianni nuts
30:24because that's a
30:25pre-snap
30:26motion penalty.
30:30We talked earlier
30:31in the game
30:32about both these
30:33teams wanting to
30:34go under center
30:35more this season
30:37and they both
30:38have shown it
30:39quite a bit
30:39tonight.
30:40First it was
30:40Josh Johnson
30:41and Andy Dalton.
30:42You'll see the
30:43linebackers step up.
30:45They got it
30:45onto the run
30:46initially.
30:46That's why the
30:47play action pass
30:48is wide open
30:50behind them.
30:51That's the biggest
30:52thing you'll see
30:53a lot more
30:53from both those
30:54guys.
30:55Joe Burrow
30:55on the left.
30:56Jalen Hurts
30:56on the right.
30:57When you're
30:58under center
30:58not only do you
30:59have a bigger
30:59menu of available
31:01runs but it
31:02takes longer
31:03for the play
31:04fake so the D-line
31:06and the linebackers
31:07have to honor
31:07the potential
31:09run longer
31:10and usually leads
31:11to bigger holes.
31:13Like this one
31:14for Jamal Haynes
31:15still going
31:16and what a run
31:17for the rookie
31:18out of Georgia Tech.
31:20A 39-yard
31:21touchdown.
31:31I'm not exaggerating
31:32when I say
31:33that guy might
31:34have just made
31:35at least somebody's
31:36practice squad
31:37by this run.
31:38Watch this.
31:39Breaks a tackle.
31:41Makes a guy miss.
31:42Makes another guy miss.
31:44Breaks another tackle.
31:45Makes another guy miss.
31:47That is an incredible run.
31:49I mean somebody's
31:51got to put him
31:52at least on their
31:52practice squad, right?
31:54After that run right there?
31:56Goodness gracious, Jamal.
31:59He tells you he entered
32:00Georgia Tech
32:01as a wide receiver
32:02converted to running back
32:03three years ago
32:04and showing off the moves
32:06right there.
32:07Now behind the play
32:08there's an injured eagle.
32:10It's third-year corner
32:11Isaiah Bolden
32:13being looked at
32:14by the Eagles training staff.
32:20Jamal Haynes
32:215'7
32:23195 pounds.
32:27There's not a lot of 5'7
32:29guys in the NFL.
32:30Good for him.
32:32And there's Bolden
32:34trying to walk back
32:35to the Philadelphia sideline.
32:40Cincinnati is now rushed
32:42for 190 yards
32:43on the ground tonight.
32:45And the latest one
32:46by Haynes
32:47a 39-yard touchdown.
32:49He might have just
32:50changed his life right there.
32:51That might have been
32:52the difference between
32:52being on somebody's
32:53practice squad
32:54or getting called up
32:55to a roster at some point
32:56and not.
32:57Man, I'm happy for him.
33:03Extra point by Evan McPherson
33:05is good, but a highlight
33:07real touchdown run
33:09for Jamal Haynes
33:10certainly worthy
33:12of another look.
33:14I mean, how many Eagles
33:16had a shot at him?
33:17Look at that.
33:19Slipping through tackles.
33:21Guys were whiffing on him.
33:24And to your point, Ross,
33:26he's only touched the ball
33:28entering tonight twice.
33:29He had one carry
33:30and one catch
33:32in the first two
33:32preseason games.
33:33So no one,
33:34other than Cincinnati
33:35at practice,
33:36has really had a good
33:37look at him.
33:38and now they see
33:39this on film.
33:40That is an awesome point.
33:43And if the Bengals
33:45are hoping to put him
33:46on practice squad,
33:47that might not be good.
33:48That's a good point.
33:49That might not be good
33:50after that run.
33:51Sometimes they don't
33:52play you much
33:53in the preseason
33:54or they don't give you
33:55the ball much
33:56because they want
33:57to put you
33:58on practice squad.
34:00But what a great
34:01life lesson there.
34:02You never really know
34:04how many opportunities
34:05you get.
34:06There's not much
34:07you can do about it
34:08other than try to make
34:09the most of the
34:10opportunities you're given.
34:12And Jamal Haynes
34:13just did that right there.
34:14I want as many
34:15of these guys
34:16that are still out there
34:16playing as possible
34:17to make the most
34:19of these opportunities
34:19because these might be
34:20the last ones they get.
34:23Washington on the return
34:24for Philadelphia.
34:25He is tackled
34:26at the 30-yard line.
34:29And we have a new
34:30quarterback for the Eagles.
34:32It'll be the rookie
34:33out of North Dakota State,
34:35Cole Payton.
34:36So I guess that puts
34:38the number two
34:40quarterback race
34:41for Philly to bed
34:42at least for the night.
34:44Andy Dalton,
34:4512 of 19,
34:46102 and a touchdown.
34:48Tanner McKee,
34:4812 of 22,
34:5055 yards
34:51and an interception.
34:52And I think this,
34:53if this was like
34:54a vote or an election,
34:56it seems like
34:57it's too close to call.
34:58I don't know what
34:59the Eagles will end up
35:00doing there.
35:01I do know that
35:02Cole Payton's a fun
35:03player to watch.
35:06His first pass is dropped
35:07over the middle
35:08by Stone Smart,
35:10but Cole Payton,
35:11fifth round
35:11at a North Dakota State.
35:13Some comparisons
35:14over his time there
35:15to Taysom Hill
35:16because he can throw up
35:18but also 13 rushing
35:20touchdowns a year ago
35:22in his only year
35:23as the starting quarterback.
35:24Well, that's because
35:25they had Cam Miller
35:27who got drafted
35:28by the Raiders
35:28last year ahead of him.
35:30He knew he might only
35:31get one year
35:32but he told me
35:33one year was all he needed
35:35and he was right.
35:36Ended up getting drafted
35:36by the Eagles.
35:39Payton chased by Howard
35:40across the third
35:41and now Foskey joins the fight
35:43and that one is thrown away.
35:49And now it looks like
35:51Foskey is hobbling
35:53after that last play
35:55in his second season
35:56with the Bengals
35:57and the officials
35:59will stop the clock here
36:01as the training staff
36:02comes over to look
36:03at the fourth year
36:04defensive end
36:05from Notre Dame.
36:10Bengals have a couple
36:11of Notre Dame guys
36:12on that defensive line.
36:14Foskey and Howard Cross
36:16that played for their
36:18D coordinator Al Golden
36:19at Notre Dame.
36:20So he knows what they bring
36:22to the table
36:22and certainly wanted
36:23to get them
36:24an opportunity
36:25to continue their careers
36:26here in Cincinnati.
36:28And of course Al Golden
36:28no stranger to this area
36:30spending five years
36:31as the head coach
36:32at Temple
36:33as a Colts Neck,
36:35New Jersey native
36:35not too far away.
36:36Payton in trouble
36:37and down he goes
36:39and down he goes
36:39Landon Robinson
36:40in on that stop
36:42along with Antoine Powell
36:43Ryland.
36:44A loss of four
36:45on the play.
36:47Dexter Lawrence
36:48loves that.
36:49Yeah, so does Al Golden.
36:51You see him right there.
36:56You'll see the left side
36:57of your screen.
36:58Both those guys
36:58get in there.
36:59Powell Ryland
37:00with the bull rush
37:01and then Landon Robinson
37:03helps finish him off.
37:06You said it.
37:08Andrew, what Al Golden
37:09did at Temple
37:10was extremely impressive.
37:13When he got to Temple,
37:14there were a lot of prospects
37:16that would rather pick
37:17with FCS schools.
37:19The old one double A
37:20over Temple
37:21and he kind of changed
37:22that whole program around.
37:24Played his home games
37:25here at the link.
37:2849 yard punt
37:29320 to go
37:30and we'll see if
37:31Cincinnati just wants
37:33to run out the clock
37:34and finish their
37:36preseason undefeated
37:37for the first time
37:38in 20 years.
37:42As Payton looks
37:43at the tablet
37:44with Andy Dalton.
37:47Tanner McKee
37:48right behind him.
38:00Clifford,
38:00five of nine,
38:0153 yards
38:02and a touchdown.
38:04Run it with Bullock here.
38:07Bullock picks up
38:08and comes.
38:09Cincinnati
38:10has missed
38:11the postseason
38:12each of the last
38:13three years
38:13and that was after
38:14back-to-back
38:15AFC title game
38:16appearances.
38:18Just the fifth team
38:19to do that
38:20over the last three years.
38:22They're 24 and 27.
38:24And I think
38:25that would surprise
38:26some people.
38:26Obviously Bengals fans
38:27know that.
38:28But if you talk to people
38:29around the country,
38:30it doesn't feel like
38:32it was that long ago
38:33that they went to
38:33those back-to-back
38:34AFC championship games.
38:36It feels like
38:36it was a year or two ago,
38:37but that's three straight
38:39years where you have
38:40a top five quarterback
38:41in his prime
38:42and you're not even
38:43making the postseason.
38:45It's not okay.
38:46And you can tell
38:47Burrow and the Bengals
38:48kill that with their moves
38:49this offseason.
38:53Penalty marker down.
38:5978 defense.
39:00Five-yard penalty.
39:02Second out.
39:05Fifth penalty
39:06against Philadelphia
39:07tonight.
39:08This one on Zion Wilson.
39:13I'm trying to figure out
39:14why Zion Wilson
39:15was ever on O-line.
39:17You know, I mean,
39:17obviously he's a big guy,
39:19but then to move
39:20the D-line,
39:21have a breakout year,
39:24was going to try
39:25to get another year
39:25of college eligibility.
39:26Didn't get it.
39:27And the Eagles
39:28guaranteed a decent
39:29amount of his salary,
39:31over $200,000
39:32to make sure
39:33he signed here.
39:38So you never played
39:40on the defensive side
39:42of Princeton?
39:43I did.
39:43You did?
39:44Yeah, as a freshman.
39:45Okay.
39:45So why did you make the move?
39:47Well, as a freshman,
39:49I started a couple games
39:50at defensive end
39:51and really enjoyed it.
39:53Illegally used
39:54their hands to the face.
39:55Number 77 defense.
39:57Five-yard penalty
39:58at the end of the run.
39:59Automatic first down.
40:00Then I went back
40:02to Redding
40:03for Christmas break
40:04with my high school friends
40:05and really enjoyed it.
40:09And by the time
40:10I got back to Princeton,
40:12I was 284.
40:14I went from 258
40:16to 284.
40:17You see Andre Yosivas.
40:20There's a Princeton guy
40:21right there.
40:21He's having a good time.
40:23Not as good as you
40:24over Christmas break.
40:26Gained 26 pounds.
40:28They said,
40:28what did you do?
40:29I said,
40:29I had an amazing time
40:30and said,
40:32well, you're going to start
40:33either way,
40:33but you could really
40:34maybe do something
40:35on offense.
40:35Thank goodness,
40:36by the way,
40:36I wouldn't have had
40:37a prayer in heck
40:37of making the NFL
40:39on the defensive line.
40:40I know that much.
40:40It worked out for you,
40:41that's for sure.
40:44That should take us
40:45to the two-minute warning
40:46here in Philadelphia.
40:4930-13
40:50in favor of Cincinnati.
40:53Cincinnati.
41:00Just a reminder,
41:02September 13th awaits.
41:04Here's a look at our
41:05NFL on CBS schedule.
41:07All kicks off with the NFL
41:09today on the road
41:10in Minnesota.
41:11And then a great slate
41:12of games
41:13to start our season.
41:17Sunday, September 13th
41:19on CBS and streaming
41:21on Paramount+.
41:26I wonder if Russell
41:28threw that as hard
41:28as he could,
41:29if it would have
41:29damaged the camera.
41:32He clearly didn't put
41:34everything he had
41:34into that.
41:37Probably a good thing.
41:38Yeah.
41:40What a career he had.
41:41Speaking of a guy
41:42in the preseason,
41:44Matt Flynn
41:44was supposed to be
41:45the starter
41:46for the Seahawks
41:46that year.
41:47They had paid
41:48Matt Flynn
41:48a lot of money
41:49and here comes
41:50Russell Wilson
41:51out of nowhere
41:52and he won the job
41:54in the preseason.
41:55So, another example
41:56for the preseason
41:58is meaningless, folks.
42:00Ask Russell Wilson.
42:01Ask Matt Flynn.
42:04Don't ask Matt Flynn.
42:09Here's Haynes
42:09who had the highlight
42:11real run
42:11and this time
42:12he's pushed back.
42:13A couple of shoutouts
42:14we want to give
42:14as you look ahead
42:15to the season
42:16up ahead for Cincinnati.
42:17Bob Trumpy
42:18and James Brooks
42:19will go into the team's
42:21Ring of Honor
42:22Week 8 this season
42:23and for Philadelphia
42:25Chairman and CEO
42:26Jeffrey Lurie
42:27will be inducted
42:28into the Eagles
42:29Hall of Fame
42:30before the game
42:31against the Dallas Cowboys
42:33in late October.
42:34All of them
42:35well deserved.
42:36I loved
42:38listening to Bob Trumpy
42:39call games growing up
42:41and Jeffrey Lurie,
42:42you know,
42:42I grew up as
42:43we've referenced
42:43a couple of times
42:44in the area
42:44I grew up
42:45a fan of all
42:46Philly sports teams
42:48and I know
42:49what it was like
42:49before Jeffrey Lurie
42:51got here
42:51and he has
42:52totally changed
42:53this franchise around.
42:55He's got to have
42:56like the highest
42:57approval rating
42:58of any
42:59Philadelphia sports
43:00owner I can ever
43:01remember
43:02and deservedly so.
43:07Yep,
43:08that certainly helps.
43:10Mike Banner
43:11here at the link
43:19fourth down
43:20and one
43:2340 seconds to go.
43:31Quarterback seeks
43:32to play in this
43:33situation,
43:33but I don't think
43:34they're going to do
43:34that with Sean Clifford.
43:35I think you'll see
43:36what Jamal Haynes
43:37can be done.
43:37Oh,
43:38he did it!
43:38Wow!
43:40To ice the game
43:41on fourth and one,
43:42Clifford puts it away.
43:44I should have just
43:44gone with it.
43:45I would have gotten
43:45full credit
43:46for predicting that.
43:48And that should do
43:50it from here
43:50in Philadelphia.
43:51Our producer
43:52Jonathan Siegel,
43:53director Andy Goldberg,
43:55statistician Mike
43:56Tuberosa,
43:57our spotter
43:58John Lou McCarthy,
44:00and that will
44:02end the preseason
44:03for the Bengals
44:04and Eagles.
44:05Philadelphia
44:05finishes 0-3,
44:07Cincinnati
44:07completes a perfect
44:09preseason
44:10at 3-0.
44:15Now we wait
44:17for Sunday
44:18at 6 p.m.
44:19to see
44:20who won these jobs,
44:22who's on the 53-man roster,
44:25who's headed to the
44:26practice squad,
44:26who's looking for work.
44:27And I've been
44:28in that situation,
44:30Andrew,
44:31and this is not
44:31a fun 48 hours.
44:34I've gotten
44:34the phone calls.
44:36They only call you
44:37if they're cutting you.
44:38They don't call you
44:39to tell you
44:39you're staying
44:40on the team.
44:40I didn't even know
44:41that my rookie year.
44:44But a lot of
44:45very, very nervous
44:46young men
44:47over the next 48 hours.
44:49I do not miss
44:50those days at all.
44:51Ask anyone
44:52associated with the NFL
44:53and they'll tell you
44:54this is the worst weekend
44:55in the league
44:56because so many
44:57players' dreams
44:58come to an end.
45:0230-13,
45:03the final.
45:04We go down
45:04to the field
45:05with A.J. Ross.
45:06Well, Zach,
45:06a little preseason
45:07history made.
45:083-0 for the first time
45:09in 20 years.
45:11What did you enjoy
45:11most about
45:12their collective
45:13performance tonight
45:13and the entire preseason?
45:15Yeah, how the guys
45:15closed out the game,
45:16the second half,
45:17making plays
45:18in all three phases,
45:19finishing with touchdowns,
45:21finishing with the ball
45:21and offense,
45:22getting first downs,
45:23defense with not
45:24a lot of guys up
45:25for this game,
45:25giving everything
45:26they had,
45:27playing with a lot
45:28of pride,
45:28a lot of energy.
45:29I was really proud
45:30of the way that the guys
45:30handled the whole preseason.
45:31As you look ahead
45:32to the regular season,
45:33what kind of momentum
45:34and assurance
45:35does a win like this
45:36give you?
45:36Well, it's just good
45:37for team camaraderie,
45:38man.
45:38A lot of guys
45:39that have worked hard,
45:40got their moments tonight.
45:41We got a chance
45:42to play everybody.
45:43Everybody made plays.
45:44Now we got a tough
45:44weekend ahead of us,
45:45which is always challenging,
45:46and then we'll move
45:47forward after that.
45:48But spend these
45:49next two guys,
45:50just spend the next
45:51two days thinking
45:51about these guys
45:52that have given us a lot.
45:53Thank you so much.
45:54Congrats.
45:54Appreciate it.
45:56All right, A.J.,
45:57thanks so much
45:58for everything
45:58down on the sideline
45:59tonight.
46:00That'll do it
46:01from Philadelphia,
46:0230-13,
46:03the final score.
46:05So for Ross Tucker,
46:07A.J. Ross,
46:08and our entire crew,
46:09this is Andrew Catalan
46:11saying so long
46:12from Philly.
46:13You have been watching
46:14the NFL
46:15on CBS.
46:22CBS Sports.
46:23Thanks you for watching
46:25this presentation
46:26of the National Football League.
