00:02A Tasmanian hospital about to get a new owner.
00:05The competition watchdog has given the green light for Healthscope to sell the Hobart
00:10private hospital to Calvary Healthcare.
00:12But the sale to an organisation that follows rules set by the Catholic Church has some
00:17worried.
00:18We've got deep concerns about the services that will not be continued under Calvary's
00:25administration.
00:26Those services include vasectomies, gender affirming care, surgical terminations, voluntary
00:32assisted dying and fertility treatments including IVF.
00:37Equality Tasmania plans to appeal the sale approval.
00:40We believe that the ACCC had another option.
00:43It could have allowed this sale but with conditions that Calvary provides the services that are
00:49currently available from Hobart private.
00:52The Tasmanian government says it's already found an alternative provider for IVF services
00:57and is working on the others.
01:00There will be absolutely no gap in these services.
01:04They are valued services.
01:06But the state's peak medical body says the public system is already stretched.
01:11Our concern then is how busier are those alternative services, which bits can't have to be going
01:17into the public system which we know is already incredibly stretched and what does that mean
01:23as a flow on effect.
01:24We are putting record investment into our public hospital system, over $10 million every single day.
01:31Equality Tasmania has written to the anti-discrimination commissioner asking her to conduct an inquiry into
01:38whether Calvary's refusal to offer gender affirming care violates the state's anti-discrimination laws.
01:44As Tasmanians, we deserve the same healthcare options as other Australians.
01:54To pay attention, I rise up because you know the people that are dumbbells and one of the
