00:02Bill Gates warned that artificial intelligence could cause widespread job losses and social
00:08disruption unless governments prepare for the transition, according to the Wall Street Journal.
00:12In an essay published Wednesday, Gates said AI could quickly affect both white and blue-collar
00:19jobs, with entry and mid-level positions particularly vulnerable. He called for stronger
00:24social safety nets, worker retraining, and regulations limiting AI use in some jobs that
00:30require human care or empathy. Gates also proposed taxes on AI tokens and bots to slow
00:36companies' shift away from human labor and fund government services. He warned AI could
00:40worsen cyberattacks, fraud, surveillance, misinformation, and declining critical thinking skills.
00:46Gates urged governments, including the U.S. and China, to cooperate on global AI regulation.
00:52He said his investment profits will go to the Gates Foundation, which will use AI to advance
00:58work in health, agriculture, and education.
