Maximum eclipse is expected at 04:13 UTC, with 96.3% of the lunar disk immersed in Earth’s shadow. The partial phase will begin at 02:34 UTC, as the shadow becomes increasingly apparent. Shortly thereafter, the Moon will take on a striking coppery hue as the sunlit portion shrinks.
The eclipse will be visible from the Americas (excluding Alaska and northwestern Canada), Western Europe, and West Africa.
The event belongs to the Saros 138 series; the previous eclipse in this series occurred in 2008, while the next one will take place in 2044.
