U.S. stock futures were mixed on Thursday, as the Dow Jones index slipped, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 indices rose, following Wednesday’s lower close.

On the economic front, initial jobless claims fell by 4,000 to a seasonally adjusted 203,000 for the week ending Aug. 22, pointing to continued labor market resilience. Meanwhile, Census Bureau data showed July’s advance U.S. goods trade deficit widened 17.2% to $118.8 billion as exports fell and imports surged, while advance wholesale inventories rose 1.3% to $959.1 billion and retail inventories increased 0.7% to $838.5 billion.

Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani is traveling to Tehran on Thursday to spearhead mediation efforts aimed at reviving negotiations. While the pause in fighting has held for nearly a month, no diplomatic breakthrough has been reached; the U.S. reimposed a naval blockade against Iranian ports last month and enacted fresh economic sanctions following alleged violations in the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, the 10-year Treasury bond yielded 4.66%, and the two-year bond was at 4.22%. The CME Group’s FedWatch tool projections show markets pricing a 36.1% likelihood of the Federal Reserve hiking the current interest rates during its September meeting.

The SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:SPY) and Invesco QQQ Trust ETF (NASDAQ:QQQ), which track the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100, respectively, were higher in premarket on Thursday. The SPY was up 0.38% at $769.00, while the QQQ advanced by 1.00% to $718.50.

00:08All right, we've got a mixed bag here ahead of Thursday's open on the back of the NVIDIA earnings.
00:14We have S&P futures up by 0.41%.
00:17We have the Dow futures actually down by 0.02%, although that is basically at unchanged.
00:23So we're going to be real close to a potential red-green move if that trades up at all here
00:28in the pre-market
00:28or past the open.
00:30The NASDAQ is leading the way higher.
00:32That's higher by 0.92%.
00:34Now, this is off the overnight and morning high.
00:37So there is still some range to the upside here.
00:40Again, a lot of stuff going on with NVIDIA's earnings, CrowdStrike earnings, CRM earnings, Okta earnings,
00:46all of those stocks trading higher, and that is bringing the NASDAQ with it.
00:49So we'll see how that holds into the open and then how it trades here today.
00:52But so far, we've got green arrows there with the exception of the Dow, and it is barely red to
00:59begin with.
00:59Also worth checking in, crude is up slightly here today, up 0.3% plus 0.34%.
01:06We're back in an 82 handle.
01:08That briefly dipped into a 70 handle yesterday.
01:12We'll see if oil rebounds here today or if it maybe retests some of those lows.
01:18Now, let's take a look at some cues from last session as well as what we have on deck for
01:22you today.
01:22We also have stocks in focus for you, as we always do.
01:26Healthcare, communication services, and consumer discretionary stocks recorded the biggest losses on Wednesday
01:31as most S&P 500 sectors closed lower, though industrials and utilities bucked the market trend to finish higher.
01:38U.S. stock futures were mixed on Thursday as the Dow slipped a bit while the S&P and the
01:43NASDAQ indices rose
01:44following Wednesday's lower close.
01:48Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin al-Rahman al-Tani is traveling to Tehran on Thursday
01:55to spearhead mediation efforts aimed at reviving negotiations.
01:59While the pause in fighting has held for nearly a month, no diplomatic breakthroughs have been reached.
02:04The U.S. reimposed a naval blockade against Iranian ports last month
02:08and enacted fresh economic sanctions following the alleged violations in the Strait of Hormuz.
02:14Meanwhile, the 10-year Treasury bond yielded 4.66 percent and the two-year bond was at 4.22 percent.
02:21The CME Group's Fed watch tool projections show markets pricing a 36.1 percent likelihood of the Federal Reserve
