04:50Pakistani Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif expressed sorrow and ordered an investigation.
04:58European countries are among those hardest hit by additional fossil fuel costs caused by disruption in the Middle East,
05:05according to the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air.
05:08Italy faced an estimated €12.7 billion in extra costs between March and August,
05:14followed by the Netherlands at €11.5 billion, France at €10.8 billion and Spain at €8.8 billion.
05:24Together, the four economies absorbed almost €41 billion in additional fossil fuel costs without importing any new energy.
05:32Globally, the crisis added more than €282 billion to fossil fuel import bills without oil accounting for €140 billion.
05:43Diesel and petrol prices also rose by 59%.
05:47Beyond the cost shock, CREA said Europe's investment in clean energy is helping reduce its exposure.
05:53Clean power capacity installed since 2020 saved importing countries 36 billion euros in fossil fuel purchases during the first five
06:02months of the crisis.
06:03Spain alone saved billions, although oil-dependent transport, aviation and industry still left each person facing an additional €181 in
06:13fossil fuel import costs.
06:15Meanwhile, more than 100 organisations urged European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to announce a plan to phase out
06:22fossil fuels in her State of the Union address on September 16th.
06:32Lake Ontario, one of the North American Great Lakes.
06:36It borders both the Canadian province of Ontario to the north and the U.S. State of New York to
06:42the south.
06:43On Tuesday, President Donald Trump suggested he wanted to rename it Lake America, escalating the ongoing feud between the two
06:52countries.
06:53In a post on his own social media platform, Truth Social, he said,
06:58we don't expect to be doing much business with Ontario any longer.
07:02These Americans living near the lake reacted to the proposal.
07:05I think he should take care of things that matter the most to the country and quit being a baby.
07:14He's getting people to look at the name Lake Ontario, but I think he wants people to, he wants to
07:21open up the bigger discussion of what's going on with the negotiations.
07:26You know, is Canada not taking advantage of us? What's going on?
07:31Over the border, Canadians made their thoughts clear on Mr. Trump's comments.
07:36It's been like that for so long. So, like, why do we need to change it?
07:40Seems to work for Canada and I think probably works for the U.S. too.
07:44It's meaningless. It's just more hyperbole and more of an irritant for the Canadian people.
07:54He's not doing anybody any favors, especially himself.
07:59It's the latest escalation in the ongoing trade war between the two countries, with billions of dollars worth of tariffs
08:06imposed by both sides.
08:08This is not the first time Donald Trump has tried to redraw the map.
08:12In May last year, Trump signed an executive order to rename the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America.
08:25In Belgium, the world's top exporter of frozen fries, potatoes harvested this year are smaller than usual, reaching barely the
08:33size of ping pong balls.
08:34Farmers' harvests have been hit by a devastating combination of weather extremes, including heavy rain and storms at the end
08:42of spring, before an exceptionally hot and dry summer.
08:46We see that the soil is super dry. It's dry in the form of blocks, so it's dry.
08:55We're just able to get out of the ground from the ground.
08:58We see that they're all small for the date. We're coming to the 15th of August.
09:02Normally, they should do at least four times the size of what they're doing here.
09:07At the moment, we don't know how to make the fruit with the ground.
09:09But the Comyn family, who grows 500 hectares of potatoes, still has supply contracts to meet.
09:15Growers and processors negotiate delivery volumes and prices ahead of the harvest.
09:20The Comyns will use stocks from last year, when the harvest was exceptionally abundant.
09:26In Brussels, the owner of La Maison Antoine Freikiosk tries to adapt.
09:30What's the best is a long ground beef and a big ground beef. That's what's the best.
09:38But now, as the seasons vary very, very strongly, it's difficult to find the perfect fruit.
09:47With a town full of supply, fry prices are likely to increase.
09:54Meta has agreed to pay $17 billion and introduce new child safety measures on Facebook and Instagram
10:00to settle claims brought by 47 U.S. states over teen social media addiction.
10:06The settlement cuts short a landmark trial in California, where Meta was accused of deliberately designing features
10:13that made children addicted to its platforms and contributed to a youth mental health crisis.
10:20Under the deal, Meta will introduce daily time limits and pauses for young users,
10:25remove push notifications during weekday school hours and strengthen aid checks and parental controls.
10:32Beyond the settlement, the company was also accused of collecting data from children under 13 without parental consent
10:39and hiding internal findings about the impact of its platforms.
10:45The $17 billion payment is a fraction of Meta's $201 billion revenue in 2025.
10:57British actor Tim Curry has passed away at the age of 80.
11:01Curry became a global star as Frank and Further in the Rocky Horror Picture Show,
11:06the 1975 cult musical that remains a classic of cinema.
11:09He was also remembered for playing Pennywise the clown in the 1990 miniseries It, terrifying a generation of viewers.
11:20Beyond film and television, Curry enjoyed a major stage career earning three Tony nominations,
11:25including for Amadeus, My Favourite Year and Spamalot.
11:30After suffering a severe stroke in 2012, Curry moved into voice acting,
11:35appearing in projects including Star Wars The Clone Wars and Ferngully.
