00:05Today, I am announcing that Canada will match the United States tariffs dollar for dollar, rate for rate.
00:13Effective September 8, Canada will impose counter tariffs of up to 15%, 25% or 50% on $27.6
00:24billion in imports from the United States of America.
00:27For each product, our tariff would match the American tariff on the same type of Canadian good.
00:35For many of you watching us right now, you may ask yourself, what can I do? What can I do
00:41to help?
00:41This morning, I had the chance to talk with many associations of retailers to really have them on board to
00:49make sure that at your grocers, at your local shop, that you understand what are the Canadian products.
00:55And I have their support to make sure that's the case.
00:59And we will push them to make sure that that's the case.
01:02Because that's really how you can help.
01:05If you see a Canadian product, please support it.
01:08Because what is really important from this new chapter of the trade war is that actually when you choose a
01:17Canadian product, you're not only putting pressure on the U.S.
01:21Right now, you're protecting jobs.
01:25When we're looking at the counter tariffs, we're looking first at protecting the businesses that are affected here.
01:33Because if they were exporting to the U.S., we need to make sure that the competitors don't have access
01:38to the Canadian market in a better way than their own products.
01:42And that's why the retailers need to show that the product is from Canada.
01:48For a second, we're also targeting products that will target states in the U.S.
01:55And so we're being wise and strategic to put political pressure.
01:59And that's why we think it's the right thing to do right now.
