00:01The ongoing drought affecting Western Europe has caused the water levels of numerous Italian rivers,
00:08including the Tiber River, to drop to exceptionally low levels.
00:12In the stretch of the river that flows through Rome,
00:15the remains of an ancient bridge dating back to Roman times,
00:19built during the reign of Emperor Nero, have re-emerged from the water.
00:23The re-emerged structure is located near Castel Sant'Angelo,
00:28not far from the current Vittorio Emanuele II bridge.
00:32Two millennia ago, this bridge allowed people to cross the Tiber,
00:36toward what is now the Vatican area.
00:39This is not the first time that in the summer, when the river is at particularly low levels,
00:44the remains of the Ponce Neronianus have re-emerged.
00:48In fact, they were once used to more structures equipped with mills,
00:52powered by the current of the Tiber, though these were demolished in the late 19th century.
