00:07Bonjour and welcome to Paris, the City of Light.
00:11We are living exciting times.
00:15We are starting the second electrification of the world
00:18exactly 135 years after the first electric power transmission.
00:25And you are about to enjoy the biggest venue in this field,
00:31organized by SIGRE, the world's more important organization for electric power.
00:39There are more than 5,500 people attending.
00:42There are more than 1,000 papers.
00:44There are workshops or webinars which will make us together much stronger
00:49to address the issue of the energy transition,
00:52which is absolutely necessary to fight the climate crisis and save our beloved planet.
00:59Welcome again and enjoy the session.
01:10Well, looking at my career, SIGRE certainly had a great impact on my professional journey.
01:17I started in SIGRE a long time ago and I progressed from one job to another,
01:24got promotions, mainly because I was involved in SIGRE.
01:29One thing about SIGRE is that you can actually get a lot of help from colleagues and friends
01:37that actually technically help you through your career.
01:42I would encourage people to get involved in SIGRE.
01:46It's a great organization and it will definitely take you more to places that you can imagine.
01:56Thank you so much.
02:06This program exists because SIGRE and China Southern Power Grid made a bold choice.
02:12We share a common crisis, the climate change and the energy transition.
02:17And we decided to cooperate together.
02:20And the next generation networks are the key to our future.
02:25The response was overwhelming.
02:27Engineers from 19 countries applied and we chose the top 10 to an intense month in Guangzhou.
02:35Through 50 courses and side visits, they master VSE, HVDC, AI, green energy and robotics.
02:45But we do not just exchange technology.
02:48We build real human connections.
02:51This is far more than training.
02:54For many of them, that was the first time they are in China.
02:59And they are living with open-minded, sharper skills and also true friendships.
03:05I think that is the global cooperation actually works.
03:09And we are just getting started.
03:12This program will happen every two years.
03:14And our goal is firm to build a global platform where young engineers can learn from each other.
03:22This is the future and we are building it now.
03:35One promising opportunity with DC technology is to connect clean energies the way power is used today.
03:43HVDC is already used to transmit large amount of our power system over long distance efficiently.
03:49By linking this backbone with medium and low voltage DC networks, it could connect solar, batteries, EV chargers, building and
03:59digital load with more integrated DC grid.
04:03This could be especially valuable for AI data centers, which are becoming more power electronics-based systems with DC rectifiers
04:13and solid-state transformers.
04:16With better DC system design, we could improve efficiency, reliability and integration with renewable energy.
04:24Ultimately, the integrated DC grid will play a very important role in building up a smarter, cleaner and more resilient
04:34energy system.
04:44A working group within CIGRE is at the heart of CIGRE mission, bringing together global expertise, support innovation and sharing
04:53knowledge.
04:54Each working group operates on the one from the 16 study committees and has been created in order to address
05:04a defined challenge, for instance, like increasing renewable energy, improving transformer power reliability on our power station, for instance.
05:15And for a period between two and four years, working group members will address or will share some experience, will
05:27analyze the best practices and will propose some recommendations.
