00:00I'm still in shock over this one. A friend and I were walking and we found this hose for free
00:05on someone's lawn. I knew it would be the perfect way to add some whimsy to my garden area.
00:10I spray painted part of it purple and then I cut a small section and spray painted it gold.
00:16When spray painting I was careful to get the top and sides but I didn't worry about the back. I
00:22let the hose dry for a few hours and then I marked with a pencil on my fence the design.
00:28I used these little finishing nails and a hammer to secure the hose to the fence
00:32following along my design. I used these nails to secure its shape. I cut the end with scissors and
00:39then I moved on to the gold hose. I made a small triangle trimmed it and I attached it to
00:44the top
00:45of the purple to make a head. Then I attached two antennas also with a gold hose. It felt like
00:52it
00:52was missing one thing so I added some green hose to the bottom for grass. And that's how you add
00:59a
00:59little whimsy to your backyard or garden area. What do you think? I hope this inspires you to get
01:05creative with an old hose. I want to turn this spindle into something fun for the backyard. I'm
01:11going to paint it this beautiful blue. I'm going to do both sides of the spindle so that it's all
01:16one
01:16color and I want to make sure to do the ends as well. I want to add some additional colors.
01:21I'm going to
01:22add some sage green around a few of the smaller round parts. I find using a little brush for these
01:28parts really helps. I'm going to cover the entire spindle now with this pearl glaze. Once it's dry
01:34it's going to add the perfect amount of shine. I found this piece of dryer venting at the reuse
01:39store recently. I'm going to start by slicing it down the middle. I can do this with just a normal
01:44pair of scissors. Now that I've worked my way down the middle I'm going to go ahead and cut off
01:50a
01:50section. With this end cut off I want to flatten it out. It's actually quite easy to flatten out by
01:56just pushing it down until it lays flat. Now that I have all four sections cut I want to turn
02:02them
02:02into wings. I'm going to make two different sizes so we'll have two larger ones and two smaller ones
02:08when I'm done. To give the wings a little bit of color I'm going to lightly brush on some blue
02:13paint
02:14to the ends. I'm also going to add some sage green to the middles and then some cream paint to
02:20the
02:20tips of the wings. I'm just going to use some small nails and a hammer to hold all four wings
02:26in place.
02:27The final thing I need to do is attach a small head. I've gone ahead and painted a ball with
02:33the blue paint
02:33and pearl glaze and I'm just going to use some glue to hold it in place. I love how fun
02:39this giant dragonfly is.
02:40It adds such a colorful touch to the fence and was so easy to make. I hope this has inspired
02:46you to
02:47make some giant friends for your backyard this summer as well. At my local Walmart I picked up a
02:52terracotta pot, some paint and styrofoam balls and we're going to turn this into some really cool yard
02:56decor. And the first thing we have to do is paint our pot. So I'm going to remove the lid
03:00and simply
03:01just pour the paint right on. Then we're going to take an inexpensive paintbrush and just start painting
03:05the pot. We're going to make sure to cover all of the sides. You can leave the inside natural but
03:10we do
03:10want to make sure that we have an even coverage and sometimes multiple layers of paint so that we
03:15don't see the terracotta underneath. So I did two coats of that Kelly green as a base coat and then
03:20we came back in with a lighter green and that I just used the same Kelly green with a little
03:24bit
03:24of white and we drew the belly and then we also came back in with some polka dots. As you
03:28can see
03:29they're not even, they're not precise but I think it turned out very very cute. So now it's time to
03:33paint
03:33a mouth. Now I have some black paint and then just a more detailed paintbrush. We're going to dip that
03:38in.
03:38No need to pour this out on a plate or anything and we're going to paint the mouth. So now
03:43I did a
03:43second coat and what we're going to do now is add the little caps on the mouth. So we're going
03:47to just
03:48take our paintbrush and do two little lines. Now we have some pink and of course we've got to add
03:53the frog's tongue. So I'm just going to take our paintbrush, the same paintbrush, a finer detailed
03:57one, dip it in the paint and as you can see it's going to take multiple layers. Now I have
04:02some of
04:02these that I picked up from Walmart. These are just smaller styrofoam balls and they come in all
04:07different sizes as well. So we're going to need two of them and we're going to come back to the
04:10black paint and we're going to create a black circle right in the middle. Just like that. Now
04:16that we have the eyeballs painted I'm going to take a little bit of hot glue from my glue skillet
04:20and apply it to the bottom of the styrofoam ball. And then right on the top which happens to be
04:24the
04:25bottom of the terracotta pot I'm just going to place it right there. And we'll do the same thing to
04:30a
04:30second ball and place it right here. And for the final touch we have a couple black pipe cleaners
04:36and you can find all sorts of pipe cleaners and the cutters we're using today from nickseasonaldecor.com
04:41and we're just going to snip them about an inch or so long. Now I'm going to take our fake
04:46little
04:46eyelashes that we just made and I'm going to place them right above the eyes. So I broke down one
04:50pipe
04:50cleaner and that is going to be more than enough. We don't really need too many eyelashes, just a few
04:55pieces will do. And here's how our terracotta frog turned out and I absolutely love it. What an easy
05:00project you guys. All we used was one terracotta pot, two styrofoam balls, one pipe cleaner, and a
05:06little bit of paint. Some of these ingredients you might already have on home. Next time you're out
05:10at the dollar store don't pass by the garden section. To begin my project I removed the hanging
05:15chain. I don't need it for this one but I can always set it aside and use it for a
05:19different project.
05:20Once I had the chain removed off my wire basket what I'm left with is the basket and the
05:25insert. Next I'm going to take the flat liner that I bought and I'm going to lay it across
05:30some chicken wire and using some wire cutters I'm going to cut around it. But I want to make
05:34sure I leave at least a one inch border around so that I have lots of chicken wire to work
05:39with.
05:40Once I have my chicken wire all cut off my next step is I'm going to fill my round liner
05:44with dirt
05:45potting soil and then I'm going to take my flat liner place it over top and then the chicken wire
05:50as well.
05:51You do want to make sure at this point that you put your liner back in the wire basket
05:54and this will hold it more securely so that you can work properly. You're going to take the flat
05:59liner and shove it in underneath the rim of the round one. Then I'm going to place my chicken wire
06:04back on top. I'm going to do any trimming that I need to do so that I just have little
06:08sticks of the
06:09chicken wire sticking out that I can wrap underneath the edge of the wire basket. So I'm just going to
06:15continue working around and this is why I left the chicken wire a little bit longer so I knew I
06:19would have enough to wrap under the wire basket. Next I'm going to take my four terracotta pots and
06:24I have a little rubber washer here. I'm going to thread some crafting wire around it twisting it tight
06:30and then I'm going to take the ends of the crafting wire and what I'm going to do is I'm
06:34going to slide
06:35them through the whole of the terracotta pot and pull it up tight. Then what I have here is just
06:40a
06:40little anchor that's going to hold my terracotta pot on because I'm going to take these four and I'm going
06:45to
06:46attach them to the top here of my chicken wire. So I'm going to put two close at the front
06:51wrapping
06:52them on around the chicken wire using the wire from the terracotta pot that's holding on with the
06:57little rubber washer. Then for the back I'm going to put the two a little more spaced out. Once I
07:03have
07:03them all wired on I just tighten them up make sure they're nice and tight and then when it's flipped
07:07over
07:08here what I have is a nice little stand. Next for this project what I want to do since I'm
07:13going to be
07:14making this little planter into a cute little turtle. So I'm going to take some chicken wire
07:18and I'm going to shape it around roughly into like a cylinder shape and trying to mold it as best
07:23as I
07:23can with my hands to make a turtle head. Then I'm going to stuff that with some faux moss and
07:28greenery
07:30and then I'm going to attach that using the ends of the chicken wire that are sticking out
07:34onto the ends of the wire basket. So I just wrap those around the edge of the wire basket.
07:40There's lots of wire here to work with and I use the wire because then I can mold the turtle
07:46head
07:46so that it stands up any way I wish. I'm going to repeat this process but a little different shape
07:51for the turtle tail. Next what I'm going to do is I'm going to take some scissors and I'm going
07:56to cut
07:56some holes in the top of the brown basket liner and then I'm going to open it up nice and
08:02wide so I
08:02have the dirt exposed and then I'm going to just push in the plants that I like. So I'm just
08:07working
08:07around making different holes and pushing in all kinds of different plants and making sure I add a
08:12bit of extra dirt to make them stable. And this is my finished adorable turtle planter. This turtle is
08:19so cute. He looks so awesome on my porch and it turned out better than I could imagine. I really
08:24hope
