00:00PAS President Abdelhadi Awang says the party is assessing UMNO's strength in Melaka
00:05as it mounts an alliance with Barisan Nacional for the state election.
00:10Hadi explained that PAS had taken different approaches in previous state elections,
00:15depending on the strength of the parties involved.
00:18Hadi acknowledged he was unsure whether UMNO was strong in Melaka,
00:22but the matter would be discussed.
00:24The Marang MP also urged PAS members not to worry about seat negotiations
00:29and to abide by the party's decision.
00:33Hadi cited the Johor election where PAS helped UMNO and other BN parties
00:37in seats that Perikatan Nasional did not contest.
00:40He noted that BN ultimately retained control of Johor, winning 48 of the 56 seats it contested.
00:47Hadi compared the arrangement to a football match where PAS played goalkeeper and allowed UMNO to score.
00:54He remarked that UMNO ultimately won while PAS did not score any goals, but said it was all right.
01:01PN lost all 33 seats it contested in Johor.
01:05Hadi explained that PAS took a different approach in Negeri Sembilan
01:08by playing a more direct role alongside UMNO,
01:11and the alliance saw PAS included in the state government.
01:15On Friday, Hadi claimed that BN's leadership was divided over forming an alliance with PN for the Melaka Poles,
01:22but he was confident an agreement could be reached.
01:25BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi initially said the UMNO-led coalition would continue its alliance with PN for the Melaka
01:33Poles
01:33following their victory in the August 1 Negeri Sembilan election.
01:37However, Zahid has since insisted on defending the 21 seats BN won in the 2021 state election.
