00:06Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're looking at the rarest enemy appearances across The Legend of Zelda.
00:13We're only looking at regular enemies, though.
00:15No bosses or mini-bosses unless that specific appearance is as a regular enemy.
00:21Some of them tend to swap roles from time to time.
00:30But before we dive in, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring the
00:34bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:39Lanmola, The Legend of Zelda.
00:48Although these giant sandworms are usually a boss or a mini-boss, Lanmolas were regular enemies in the original game.
00:55Still, you don't come across them often.
00:57They only appear in level 9, the game's final dungeon.
01:01Although there are two variants, red and the faster, stronger blue, only a pair of each can be found on
01:06your way to Ganon.
01:08Perhaps Nintendo felt their design was best suited in the boss or mini-boss role moving forward.
01:12Regardless, Lanmolas have only made a handful of appearances since.
01:21Red Iron Knuckle.
01:23Zelda II, The Adventure of Link.
01:25Across many Zelda games, certain enemies scale in power as you play, signified by their color.
01:31In Zelda II, The Adventure of Link, Iron Knuckles were introduced with three color variants.
01:36Orange, red, and blue.
01:44The middle child in the power scale, the red Iron Knuckle, only makes three natural appearances,
01:50all in the fourth dungeon, the Maze Island Palace.
01:53I say natural because, from the third dungeon onward,
01:57the trick of hitting one of the statues found in palaces to produce a magic potion
02:01now has a small chance to produce a red Iron Knuckle instead.
02:09Chain Chomp.
02:10The Legend of Zelda, A Link to the Past.
02:13One of the biggest of many Mario references made across the series,
02:17the Chain Chomps have appeared in several games.
02:19However, whether they be an enemy, an ally, or an item,
02:23they're shown to be pretty rare.
02:33The first time they showed up in a Zelda game was as enemies inside Turtle Rock,
02:37the penultimate dungeon of A Link to the Past.
02:40Only two of them appear as invincible guard dogs for a small key
02:44that lunge at Link as he solves a puzzle.
02:51Giant Goponga Flower and Anti-Kirby.
02:54The Legend of Zelda, Link's Awakening.
02:56And now we see the Chain Chomp in a friendly role.
03:04One of the earlier areas of Link's Awakening is Goponga Swamp.
03:08It features a path of hazardous Goponga flowers, which hurt you on touch,
03:12as well as two giant Goponga flowers blocking your way forward
03:16and being able to shoot fireballs.
03:18So, it's pretty nice taking Bow Wow the Chain Chomp for a walk here
03:21so he can gobble all the flowers up.
03:24Sharing the spot with the giant Goponga flower is a late-game enemy
03:27and a reference to a different Nintendo franchise, the Anti-Kirby.
03:32Only two appear in the dungeon The Eagle's Tower, sucking up Link if he gets too close.
03:43Club Moblin, The Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time.
03:47Although technically a group of Moblins appears, stalking the path leading to the Sacred Forest Meadow in Ocarina of Time,
03:53a single one of them is quite different from the rest.
03:56Down the final hallway before the Forest Temple, Link faces a larger Moblin wielding a club,
04:02producing strong shockwaves with each whack on the ground.
04:12Still, once you get past his attacks, he goes down fairly easily.
04:16For what it's worth, Master Quest did increase the number of club Moblins to two,
04:21as an additional one appears in the Spirit Temple.
04:31P-Hat and Takuri, The Legend of Zelda, Majora's Mask.
04:35The P-Hat is a classic Zelda enemy, and they usually appear in big numbers.
04:40Not so in Majora's Mask.
04:42There is only one, which can be found inside a hidden grotto in southern Termina Field.
04:52Defeating it gets Link a piece of heart, and then you never have to see it again.
04:56Its rarity is shared with an original enemy, the Takuri.
05:00This bird can be found by the entrance to Milk Road, and can steal valuable items from Link.
05:05Killing it takes some time, but it's a great source for farming rupees, as it drops 200 upon death.
05:19Pole's Voice, The Legend of Zelda, Oracle of Ages.
05:23Another classic enemy from the original game, the Pole's Voice is either common or rare, depending on the entry.
05:29While they show up more frequently in Oracle of Seasons, they barely appear in its sister game, Oracle of Ages.
05:41Bunny-like and not much of a threat, you can find two pairs of them inside the moonlit grotto dungeon.
05:46Although they respawn upon re-entering a room, these are the only four, making them much more rare than any
05:53other enemy in the game.
06:00Golden Monsters, The Legend of Zelda, Oracle of Seasons.
06:05Oracle of Seasons has a more interesting rarity, since the enemies are encountered through a side quest.
06:10There is a single gold variant for four of the game's enemies, which appear at specific locations during a specific
06:17season.
06:17A Golden Darknut, Lionel, Moblin, and Octorok.
06:26Since there is only one of each, that makes this a four-way tie.
06:31Defeating them all, which is naturally much tougher than the other variants, gets Link the Red Ring, doubling his sword
06:36damage.
06:37And this would not be the last time the series included the gold variants.
06:44Ball and Chain Soldier, The Legend of Zelda, Four Swords.
06:48Deciding on the rarest enemy for Four Swords is a bit tricky.
06:53The game features procedurally generated elements, so exact numbers for any enemy can change from playthrough to playthrough.
07:00Of them all, the one that seems to make the least appearances is the Ball and Chain Soldier.
07:11You have to fight one in the Chambers of Insight, essentially the tutorial area.
07:16But from there, it only has a very small chance of appearing in the Talus Cave.
07:21Usually on harder difficulties, when you're going for the hero's keys.
07:25Dexivine.
07:26The Legend of Zelda, The Wind Waker.
07:29Most of the regular enemies found across the Great Sea of the Wind Waker are either usually fought in big
07:35numbers, or appear on a fairly regular basis.
07:38The only exception, really, is the Dexivine.
07:48Although they also appear in groups, these plants only make very brief, forgettable appearances in the Forbidden Woods and the
07:55Wind Temple.
07:56They try to grab hold of Link to drain his magic, but are easily sliced through so he can keep
08:01moving.
08:02They're such a minor threat that even Karlov won't sculpt a figure of them at the Nintendo Gallery.
08:11Chain Chomp.
08:12The Legend of Zelda, Four Swords Adventures.
08:14While the previous Four Swords turned the Chain Chomp into an item, the GameCube installment took the Mario foe back
08:20to its roots as an enemy.
08:29Unlike A Link to the Past, only one appears in Four Swords Adventures.
08:33You can find it chained up just north of Kakariko Village as the area around it burns.
08:38Although you might feel a little bad for it, it's still invincible, and we'll lunge at any Link that comes
08:44near it.
08:54Golden enemy variants made their second appearance in the Minish Cap, and are still exceptionally rare to come across.
09:00Just in a different way.
09:07There are three you can find, an Octorok, a Rope, and a Tektite.
09:12Up to three of each can appear in the game, but will only show up after random kinstone fusions with
09:17NPCs.
09:18They're much stronger, faster, and take a lot more damage to go down than their regular counterparts.
09:24Still, with three each across the game, that makes them the least common enemies.
09:33Green Chew
09:34The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess
09:36Here we have another rare color variant, but of a different nature.
09:44In Twilight Princess, Chews, this game's version of Chew Chews, can blend to mix different colors.
09:50A green Chew never naturally appears in the game, but can only be seen when a blue and yellow Chew
09:56merge together.
09:57Except, the only place where a blue and yellow Chew appear together is on the 19th floor of the Cave
10:03of Ordeals, a completely optional combat dungeon.
10:07Much like others of its kind, Link can scoop a green Chew's jelly into a bottle after he defeats it.
10:12However, drinking it has no effect, and is thought to be a leftover remnant from when the game featured a
10:17magic meter.
10:22Pull's voice makes its second appearance on the list, and is even more uncommon here.
10:30In Phantom Hourglass, it can be found in the Temple of Courage.
10:33However, there's only two of them.
10:41It's been beefed up a little bit.
10:43It can now leap on top of Link and takes more damage to die, but you can also blow into
10:48the DS's microphone to stun it.
10:50This is a callback to their original appearance.
10:52Although not a feature on the NES, the Japanese Famicom's controller featured a microphone, which players could talk into to
10:59defeat the enemy.
11:06Urg-Torok, The Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks
11:09A bit less common than their watery counterpart, the Octave, the Urg-Torok is only found in two rooms inside
11:16one location, the Sand Temple.
11:25They hide in the Sand, waiting to attack Link, but can be easily stunned with the Sand Wand, and then
11:31disposed of.
11:32What's interesting is that there is a different enemy called the Garun, who also only appears in the Sand Temple
11:37and has a similar appearance,
11:40yet appears far more frequently and poses a greater challenge.
11:43Makes you wonder why the Urg-Torok exists at all.
11:52Ampelus Egg and Magmanos
11:55The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword
11:57One of the rarest enemies in Skyward Sword is an incredibly circumstantial one.
12:02The Ampelus is a common enemy across Lanayru Desert, massive crustaceans with electrified shells that come barreling in your direction.
12:10Its larval form, however, the Ampelus Egg, only makes three appearances.
12:22As Link works to open the area's first dungeon, there are two puzzles that involve turning the evolutionary clock back
12:28on some Ampeluses, with timeshift stones.
12:31The Egg shares a spot with the Magmanos, a giant hand made of lava that also only appears three times
12:37inside the Fire Sanctuary.
12:45Black Lynel
12:46The Legend of Zelda A Link Between Worlds
12:48Regular Lynels are already pretty rare in A Link Between Worlds, only appearing on Death Mountain, but the black variant
12:55is something you won't see on your questline.
13:03There are only three of these, and they're all found in a single location, the 49th floor of the Treacherous
13:09Tower.
13:10This is the game's combat dungeon, which scales in difficulty the further you climb.
13:15Three black Lynels fill the second to last room.
13:18They aren't any stronger than the others, but do come with an extra fireball attack.
13:21Best to just knock them off the ledge quickly, then have to deal with them.
13:30Dark Super Aerolphos
13:32The Legend of Zelda Triforce Heroes
13:39In the base game of Triforce Heroes, you fight two Super Aerolphos right before the final boss, Lady Maud.
13:47These are the only ones in the game.
13:49But then Nintendo released the Den of Trials DLC, another combat dungeon, which featured another, stronger variant of the enemy.
13:57The Dark Super Aerolphos appear on the 48th floor out of 50.
14:02They take twice as much damage to go down, with attacks that can curse you on top of dealing heavy
14:06damage.
14:07There are only two of each version of the enemy, but it obviously takes quite a bit more effort to
14:13encounter the Dark One.
14:14Cursed Bokoblins, Moblins, and Lizalfos.
14:17The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild.
14:20Although there are also gold enemy variants in this game, only found in Master Mode,
14:24you still eventually grow to encounter at least one in a group of enemies fairly frequently,
14:29much like silver variants in the base game.
14:36However, there is a group of enemies in Breath of the Wild that can only be found in specific locations
14:41that you can't normally revisit.
14:43So, even a Blood Moon won't cause re-encounters.
14:46Cursed Bokoblins, Moblins, and Lizalfos are the floating skulls of those enemies.
14:51And they can only be found inside Divine Beasts and within Hyrule Castle,
14:56making them the enemies you're least likely to spend time fighting throughout your long adventure.
15:05Captain Construct 4, The Legend of Zelda, Tears of the Kingdom.
15:10Unlike its predecessor, Tears of the Kingdom has no regular enemies you can't simply find again after they respawn.
15:17But there are still some that are naturally less common than others.
15:28There are two types of non-boss or mini-boss constructs link fights in the game.
15:33Soldiers and captains.
15:35Captains, being stronger, don't appear as often and are usually the only one in a group when they do.
15:41Since the level of enemies scales with how much you've accomplished,
15:44it also takes a while before its fourth, final, and most powerful form appears.
15:50And you still have to seek out the proper ruins and sky islands to find them.
16:01If you love games, be sure to check out WatchMojo's new game, Terrible Influence.
16:05Just launched for purchase at TerribleInfluence.com.
16:08Terrible Influence is a satirical board game about the dark side of fame
16:12from the writer of the most popular girls in school and us, WatchMojo.
16:15Boom.
16:16I can make an apology video.
16:18Oh, you so would.
16:19Click on the link in the description to check out the game and be the first to play Terrible Influence.
16:25Linel, The Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom
16:28Although more of a mini-boss in the Wilds era, the Linel was made a regular enemy again in Echoes
16:34of Wisdom
16:34and was still one of the strongest enemies in the game.
16:38And since you can turn it into one of the strongest Echoes in the game,
16:42there's only one and it's pretty tricky to find.
16:51You have to find and follow scattered tracks inside the Eternal Forest, or else it doesn't appear.
16:57Not only does that make it easy to miss, but it's also ridiculously strong
17:01since the story doesn't take you here until late in the game.
17:08What's your favorite enemy with a small appearance?
17:10And which niche one would you like to see again?
