00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're taking a look at 10 of the most obscure and forgotten
00:18enemies in the Legend of Zelda series.
00:20But before we dive in, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and

00:37Rupee Wraith, The Legend of Zelda Four Swords
00:47This game introduced a host of new mechanics and enemies, and one that's often overlooked
00:52is the Rupee Wraith.
00:54Four Swords as a whole often gets less attention than its console game counterparts, which contributes
00:59a lot to the Rupee Wraith's obscurity.
01:02Once one appears, it'll chase Link and attempt to steal his Rupees.
01:11Outside of Four Swords, a single Rupee Wraith also appears in the Minish Cap, where it's
01:16referred to as a ghost, and can be found haunting Greggle of the Wind Tribe.
01:21Because of its very few appearances in only two hand-held games, the Rupee Wraith has been
01:26mostly forgotten.
01:27Cukeman, The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past
01:37While A Link to the Past is beloved for its classic enemies, there's one particularly strange and easily forgotten foe, the Cukeman.
01:45Of course, these blob-like creatures weren't naturally occurring, they were the unusual result of sprinkling magic powder on a buzz blob.
02:06Turning buzz blobs into Cukemen would enable them to speak to us, although mostly nonsense.
02:17They can also be found in Link's Awakening, Oracle of Seasons, and Oracle of Ages, but their
02:22niche role and unique transformation gimmick probably contributed to them now being forgotten.
02:28It seems like a weird choice to leave them in the past when they're so cool conceptually.
02:39Daira, Zelda II, The Adventure of Link
02:48Zelda II has several enemies that only appear here, including the menacing Daira.
02:53These alligator-like soldiers wield axes that can easily chop through Link if he isn't careful.
02:59There are two variations of them, the orange ones will charge you while wildly swinging their axes,
03:04and the red ones are more ranged and throw axes at you.
03:15The red ones are much more rare and considerably stronger, but both can only be found in and around Death Mountain.
03:22While even their primary appearances in Zelda II are pretty obscure, they have arguably even more obscure appearances in the CD-i titles.
03:31Link, The Faces of Evil, and Zelda, The Wand of Gamelon.
03:34The Legend of Zelda, The Minish Cap
03:41The Minish Cap is one of the most charming of Link's adventures, and introduced us to many new creatures.
03:43But one that might have slipped your mind is the Keaton.
03:47These tricky, fox-like enemies aren't to be mistaken for cute.
04:03They're clearly holding daggers of some kind, and if they spot you, they'll charge at you like spear moblins.
04:09In terms of gameplay systems, they serve mostly to make you drop some of your rupees relative to how many you're carrying.
04:22This is an interesting evolution, seeing as how Ocarina of Time introduced the Keaton mask based on a popular in-universe children's character,
04:30and Keaton appeared as a mythical creature in Majora's Mask.
04:34But as far as the enemy goes, they've fallen into obscurity.
04:39Anti-Kirby
04:45Link's Awakening
04:53Link's Awakening is known for its quirky characters and unique enemies based on other Nintendo properties.
04:59Most of them are Mario-themed.
05:01But then there's Anti-Kirby being a complete standout for its sheer oddity.
05:06This incredibly rare enemy is essentially a shadowy, darker version of classic Kirby.
05:15There's only a single Anti-Kirby in the game found in Eagle's Tower, a late-game dungeon.
05:23While the classic version usually inhales enemies, Anti-Kirby will attempt to inhale Link to damage him.
05:29But outside of the various versions of Link's Awakening, Anti-Kirby has no other appearances, making for an obscure cameo.
05:37Faka
05:45Zelda 2 The Adventure of Link
05:48Undeniably one of the toughest enemies Zelda 2 has to offer is the Faka.
05:59These birdlike humanoids can be found exclusively in The Great Palace, the game's final dungeon.
06:05They're strong, agile, and can feel pretty relentless to deal with.
06:16They leap around, shooting sword beams, making them both hard to hit and avoid.
06:20Much like many other enemies at this point, you've got both red and blue Fakas, with blue ones having twice as much health.
06:27You would think, based on their difficulty and actual capabilities, that they'd be a bit more memorable.
06:33But it looks like their fire sword laser beams couldn't save them from being completely forgotten outside of this single NES title.
06:40Iron Knuckle
06:47Zelda 2 The Adventure of Link
06:57Sticking with Zelda 2, we've got one absolutely brutal enemy that stands out for, at least being relatively tough in comparison to its peers.
07:03These heavily armored knights are incredibly slow, but possess devastatingly powerful attacks.
07:11Not to mention their thick armor makes them resistant to most of Link's strikes, forcing you to master your dodging and learning how to find openings in their defenses.
07:20While they did technically appear again later as more famous mini-bosses in Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, those operate a bit differently, and still haven't been featured since.
07:39Nintendo has instead narrowed its focus to Dark Nuts, similar knight enemies that are much more commonly occurring.
07:55Deku Toad
07:56The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess
07:59Twilight Princess is especially full of memorable bosses and enemies.
08:13And many, if not most people, seem to have forgotten about the Deku Toad.
08:18Found within the Lakebed Temple as a mini-boss, this massive toad will try to crush Link from above with its impressive weight.
08:25Though, it will also summon a horde of smaller, tadpole-like forms called Todos, which attempt to swarm Link with damage.
08:40Interestingly, the Deku Toad is the thousand-year-old form of the Toad Poli, two-legged frogs with water and fire variants that, you guessed it, only appear in this game.
08:51Totos, Toad Poli, the Deku Toad, this whole family line seems to have escaped most people's memories, including Nintendo's.
08:58Aquamentis The Legend of Zelda
09:12The Legend of Zelda
09:20Hopping all the way back to the first installment, we have an early-game boss that often gets overshadowed, Aquamentis.
09:27This horned dragon-type creature was actually the very first Zelda boss, guarding the Triforce piece of the first dungeon, and later reappearing in level 7.
09:37The Legend of Zelda
09:41Due to the technology at the time, he doesn't do much other than walk back and forth while shooting fireballs at you.
09:47He did actually make a return as a boss in Oracle of Seasons on the Game Boy Color, but he's a great example of a solid idea they could've taken further,
09:56only for it to be forgotten by not only the devs, but most of the players.
10:00Vyre, The Legend of Zelda
10:07Vyre, The Legend of Zelda
10:15Many enemies from the first Zelda game, like Moblins, Octoroks, and Wizrobes, have been brought along for multiple more popular adventures.
10:25But do you remember the Vyres?
10:27These winged demons were pretty obnoxious, and defeating them would simply split them into two keys, which could also be annoying.
10:35Vyres also appeared in Link's Awakening, Oracle of Seasons, and Oracle of Ages, and yet they seem to be one of the most easily forgotten enemies.
10:51This might be due to their relatively generic appearance and behavior.
10:55In comparison to most other enemies, Vyres have been left behind in the Zelda history books.
11:10Of course, there are plenty of other obscure enemies throughout the Zelda canon.
11:15Let us know what some of your favorite long-forgotten foes are in the comments, and we'll see you next time.
11:20How about a kiss? For luck?
11:25You've got to be kidding.
11:27Squadala! We are off!
