Welcome back to the channel! In this follow-up tutorial, we pick up right where we left off to make our chair fully parametric by setting up advanced parameters and driving dimensions.

If you’ve ever had a Revit family break, distort, or throw errors when flexing parameters, this video is for you. We’ll be applying the Golden Rules of Parametric Modeling to ensure every reference plane, dimension, and constraint aligns quickly and accurately every single time.

What You’ll Learn in This Video:

Advanced Parameter Setup: Adding custom length, width, height, and angle controls to complex geometry.

The Golden Rules of Parametric Modeling: Core principles to keep your family lightweight, stable, and error-free.

Reference Plane Logic: How to lock geometry correctly so it flexes seamlessly without breaking.

Testing & Flexing: Ensuring your parametric chair behaves perfectly across all type variations.

Whether you're creating furniture, custom equipment, or architectural components, mastering these parametric principles will drastically speed up your BIM modeling workflow!

00:30here is the trick to keep everything aligning quickly and accurately without a single warning error
00:37you must follow the golden rules of parametric modeling
00:41if you don't know please look our previous videos the link is given in the description
00:48without wasting any time let's jump straight into the model
00:53now we will check this model it's fully parametric chair or not
01:00just click on the family types and change the minor value like six inches
01:09its width and six inches the length of the table part
01:16and we see this is not a fully parametric model because
01:22its back should be moved with the table length
01:28so we need to define the parameters for its back part
01:36so just click on the back elevation now and now we use the reference plans
01:43just click here
01:46now again we will take another reference plan
01:51okay now we will use the align command
01:56click on this edge and press and click on this reference plan
02:01now press the lock button and lock this value
02:05now again click on this edge and click on the reference plan and lock it again
02:13here we will use dimensions of both new reference plans
02:22now we will assign a parameter to these dimensions like back width
02:36but we will use the instance parameter instead of type
02:41because we need to use a formula inside so we will use instance parameter here
02:47click ok now click on a view and now again click on family types
02:59here we will see the back width now here we will here we will assign the length
03:09equal to back width so just type here
03:17equal to length and apply now you can see width has changed but now we need to lock it again
03:37now we will take another reference plan that will connect in the middle of the back part
03:47now we will take another reference plan that will connect in the middle of the back part
03:48so we will use the command rp rp from the keyboard and once more here but it should be
04:00it will be in the center of the back part we will use manage and snaps check none and only
04:12midpoint choose then click ok
04:15now we will use the reference plan rp rp and now
04:30the middle part of the back part just click here now take dimensions
04:50yes it's equal now
04:57and click on equality
05:03and click on equality
05:04now align the middle reference with this one and now you can see
05:17just locks in there
05:19now click here
05:21change the values now
05:24length should be 3
05:27and width should be 3
05:29and check it now
05:31yes it's working
05:34so if its 4 feet
05:37and here is 4 feet
05:39سيكون هناك سيكون هناك
