Human fridge helps workers cool off in Japan summer heat

At a warehouse in Osaka, a novel new tool has been installed to help tackle Japan’s dangerous summer heat: a human refrigerator. The "Do Hiemon Box” looks like a phone booth and blows jets of air chilled to five degrees Celsius onto its occupant for rapid heatstroke prevention. "I’m already using it every day during my breaks,” says a worker at Konoe, an Osaka-based wholesaler of screws and surveyor's equipment that has installed the item. The firm behind the wheeled, stainless-steel personal cooling booth -- Trusco Nakayama -- says it sees potential demand beyond workplaces, with venues like golf courses, music festivals and train stations potential clients.
