00:00Many believe AI overlords are coming to take our jobs and spy on us.
00:04But many are also worried they might manipulate the way we think.
00:07Well now, according to researchers in Singapore, AI might already be able to read your mind.
00:12So after we collect enough training data for you, we can create an individual AI model for you.
00:19And this AI model is kind of a translator.
00:22Well, it can understand your brain activities, just like ChatGPT understand the natural languages of humans.
00:30This is PhD student and lead researcher at the University of Hong Kong, Jiaxin King.
00:35He says the AI can then decode the brain activity into a language that a generative model called stable diffusion
00:41can then turn into pictures.
00:43They do this by showing each individual visual stimuli and then recording their brain activity.
00:47With the AI then learning what each individual's brain activity looks like when thinking about each individual stimuli.
00:53Meaning at the moment, they can only read the minds of those who have participated in the study.
00:58But some believe generalized mind reading isn't that far in the future.
01:01I think we are trying to test the possibility right now.
01:05But I would say in terms of the data set that is available right now, the computational power we have,
01:12as well as the huge heterogeneity or inter-individual differences in our brain anatomy as well as brain function.
01:21This is going to be very, very difficult, right?
01:25So, yeah, it's going to take us at least another five to ten years, I think.
01:30In the meantime, they say the tech could still be useful,
01:32helping those with motor function issues and perhaps the inability to speak, communicate with only their minds.
01:38I think that's going to be a very HoloLens.
