00:00Good morning.
00:03Today I'm touring the state with my colleague Brendan Boyle.
00:07He's going to be the next chairman of the Budget Committee when Democrats are in the majority.
00:12And we've asked members from SEIU and UFCW, some of the hardest working Californians, to join us this morning
00:20because the focus of our campaign is to bring a new California that lowers the cost.
00:24The Budget Chairman is going to work with us to triage many of the cuts that were made
00:29under the President's big, brutal bill.
00:31And so we're already laying out the plan for how we're going to day one govern to get money back
00:36under Speaker Jeffries with Chairman Boyle to make sure that Californians do not lose access to health care.
00:44However, we are here today because of absolute nonsense.
00:50The country is at war. Gas prices are soaring.
00:55Threats to the homeland have never been higher.
00:58Good morning. My name is Eric Swalwell. I'm a U.S. Congressman.
01:04I'm a candidate for Governor of California.
01:06But above all, I am a citizen, speaking to you in a moment of national peril.
01:11It was once written that, quote, the FBI was created for a noble purpose.
01:18Today it is frequently being directed against political opponents, end quote.
01:24The author goes on to warn that the Bureau cannot, under any circumstance,
01:29lose focus of their mission and, quote, play political games.
01:33You'd think that was etched into the glass at Quantico or maybe spoken by John F. Kennedy.
01:40It wasn't. It was written by Kash Patel.
01:44The brave investigative revelations this weekend in the Washington Post and New York Times aren't just news stories.
01:51They're a diagnosis of a sickness, of a great Washington rot.
01:57They detail an effort by the federal government to manufacture deceit,
02:03to crush a campaign not with arguments, but with bruised purple fists of power.
02:10The president dreams of a servant in Sacramento, a Western White House.
02:16But unfortunately for him, our campaign is winning.
02:21So with early voting starting in about a month,
02:24Trump and Patel are trying to interfere in the California election.
02:28They are desperate to extend their reach until there is a corner of this republic,
02:33no corner left, untarnished by their revenge.
02:36They think that if they can sneak two Republican loyalists past the June 2 threshold,
02:42they can ignore the will of the voters.
02:44But the choice belongs to Californians, and they will never let it go.
02:51Californians, we owe a profound amount of gratitude to the men and women of the FBI
02:57who stepped into the light this week.
03:00When asked to participate in this horrendous abuse of power,
03:04they looked to their creed, fidelity, bravery, integrity,
03:10and they chose the difficult, holy work of telling the truth.
03:16So my ask right now of the men and women in the building behind me working on behalf of the
03:22great people of California and our country is this.
03:26Always speak the truth, even when it's hard.
03:29Come forward. Come forward if you see abuse.
03:32You will be protected.
03:34And I want you to know this.
03:37Democrats will be in the majority in about nine months.
03:40And when we control the House of Representatives after the midterms,
03:45anyone on any level who has done wrong to you,
03:50who has pressured you to do something you know you should not do,
03:54they will be dragged by my colleagues into a hearing.
03:58And you will be protected.
04:02In the long history of our bureau,
04:05Kash Patel is a temporary employee.
04:08But the quiet courage of those agents will outlast him.
04:14And they'll outlast the man that he's so desperate to please.
04:18Donald Trump and Kash Patel can compile their enemies list,
04:22but they cannot command the dawn.
04:25We will do that.
04:26This November, we will begin the great work of closing the curtain
04:31on the deepest, most devastating crisis our American experience has endured since the Civil War.
04:38And let this year, the 250th anniversary of American democracy,
04:43remind us that we have before suffered in darkness.
04:48And let us now be the ones who restore this nation and this golden state to the light.
04:56Yes, go ahead.
04:58Are you concerned about these documents being released, or do you want them to be made cover?
05:04This case is closed.
05:07The bureau said over 10 years ago, all we did was help.
05:11But this effort to weaponize the FBI against the president's political enemy at a time that we are at war
05:18shows a distraction.
05:20It shows an obsession with going after the president's political opponents.
05:25And it also shows anyone, anywhere, who would ever be asked to help their government,
05:30why would you do this if it would be perverted in a way to make you look like you did
05:35something wrong?
05:36We are being asked in the next couple of weeks to authorize surveillance authorities to protect the homeland.
05:41My Democratic colleagues are telling me, hell no, why would we want to give these guys more power if their
05:47eyes are not on the job of protecting the American people?
05:51I also want to update you that we are now working with our council to take further appropriate legal action.
05:58I have the only surviving lawsuit that this president is facing.
06:01It's me and the January 6th officers.
06:04I know the only language this president and his corrupt actors like Kash Patel understand is the language of strength
06:11and being on offense.
06:12And we will continue to make them react before they can have the most vulnerable Californians react.
06:18Yes.
06:19Are you looking at this differently from other allegations from the president?
06:29Yeah.
06:30The question is, how am I viewing this?
06:31Look, I'm not going to be distracted.
06:33My job is to be the CEO of lowering costs.
06:37So the people behind me who work their asses off every day,
06:42that the bargain and the benefit they get out of it is they do better for themselves and they dream
06:47bigger for their kids.
06:49But right now in California, people are scared and prices are high.
06:52Californians are running through the fields and factories where they work.
06:55Women are being dragged by their hair and thrown into unmarked vans.
06:59Troops are in our streets.
07:00Federal research dollar that's supposed to go to UCSF to find cures for cancer has been canceled.
07:07We need a governor who can be a fighter and a protector.
07:10That's why they're targeting me.
07:11I'm the only name in the race that they know.
07:12The only one that they're threatened by.
07:14Because we promise to continue what Governor Newsom has done,
07:17which is to be a fighter, protector for Californians,
07:20and to focus and not be distracted on the number one job,
07:24which this president told us he would do on day one, which is to lower the cost.
07:27Thank you so much.
07:29Thanks.
