00:00It's been a week since Drake completely set the internet on fire with this one viral moment.
00:05And while the comment section is busy accusing Drake of being a total simp,
00:09you are famous. What the f*** are you doing? Barking for some f***ing goth.
00:13We're seeing something much bigger behind the scenes. Was this really just an organic viral
00:17dating clip or is Kik using its hundred million dollar star to pull off a massive corporate
00:22rebrand? If you asked Drake, participating in a 20v1 speed dating stream was nothing more than
00:28just mindless entertainment. Oh my god, can we get a shot? The superstar has since laughed off the
00:32critics calling the stunt corny or beneath him, insisting that nobody's ever too old to have
00:36fun and make content. And plenty of fans rallied behind him. I'd have hit her with a
00:43pointing out that staying tapped into current internet culture is exactly why Drake stays
00:47relevant. Because remember, this wasn't totally out of left field. Where do you find them?
00:52The Comic Con. Drake famously told Bobby Althoff, I really, I really feel like my destiny is
00:58to end up with like a goth. Shut up. Baddie with just, that's absolute. Give those two words.
01:04So when viewers saw a young woman walk onto the Kik set in full goth attire, the internet instantly
01:09recognized the setup. And for the streamer involved, a cosplayer and creator named Pinkchoo,
01:14the payoff was instant. One thing, anything in the world and I'll buy it for you. Behind the
01:18life-changing promise of a new home for her mother, her metrics exploded across social media
01:24overnight. As viewers fell in love with her surprisingly wholesome reaction when Drake
01:29offered to buy her anything in the world. The viral moment even spawned fake AI generative
01:34images of Drake on a leash, forcing Pinkchoo to step in on X and clarify that someone else was
01:40behind those images. So on paper, it looks like standard viral noise. Drake meets his dream girl,
01:45Pinkchoo gets massive clout, fans argue over Drake being corny, and the clips rack up millions of views.
01:50But while everyone was fixated on whether Drake was being degraded or cool,
01:54Kik was quietly executing a massive play behind the scenes.
02:06Reports state Kik is officially turning on ads in an effort to learn mainstream Gen Z advertisers.
02:11It's a natural progression straight out of the playbooks of platforms like Twitch,
02:15where roughly 70 to 75% of users are under 34.
02:26There's just one massive problem. Kik is basically asking Fortune 500 companies to place ads on a
02:32platform widely regarded as the dark web of content creation. So while Twitch built its ad
02:37infrastructure around strict terms of service guidelines, Kik launched in late 2022 as an
02:43unregulated wild west built to directly challenge Twitch. And with higher revenue splits and
02:48intentional loose guidelines, Kik became the ultimate haven for creators banned everywhere else.
02:53Today, critics point to it as the most volatile platform on the web, fueled by heavy promotion
02:58of stakes crypto gambling and a culture that constantly rewards toxic shock value behavior.
03:07And that brand safety headache comes directly from the creators pulling in their biggest watch time
03:12and scandals. We're talking creators like Chud the Builder, who built his entire following off
03:17aggressive IRL harassment streams,
03:22until his online antics escalated into real-world criminal charges. Or Clevacular, who blew up
03:28pushing dangerous look-smaxing stunts and hazardous behavior, triggering bans across multiple platforms.
03:34And even Nina Lin, who keeps her streams hooked on non-stop chaos, constantly sparking outrage over
03:40viral stunts like live stream shoplifting. These scandals and more create a brutal advertiser
03:45dilemma for Kik. Because corporate sponsors don't just care about raw Gen Z numbers,
03:50they care about adjacency. No major brand like Nike, Samsung, or Coca-Cola wants its pre-roll ad
03:56appearing directly next to bannable or illegal behavior. But even if Kik does succeed at bringing
04:01Gen Z advertisers over, they still face an internal incentive problem. One that the ambassador of goth
04:07baddies may be able to fix. Kik originally lured creators away from Twitch with a massive 95-5 revenue
04:14split, direct state gambling sponsorships, and an unmoderated ad-free environment.
04:19So injecting 30-second interruptive ads now creates immediate friction with creators and viewers who
04:24joined Kik specifically to avoid them. Which leads to the ultimate question, why is Kik changing
04:29everything now? Beyond the ad money, timing couldn't be more critical.
04:33Well, there's an honest answer, and I think most of you probably can appreciate this. Like,
04:38if it was opt-in, nobody would opt-in.
04:40While Kik is currently struggling to clean up its act, Twitch just handed them a golden
04:44opportunity on a silver platter. Twitch recently sparked massive creator backlash after quietly
04:49auto-opting streamers into letting Amazon train generative AI models on their video feeds and voices.
04:56Now streamers are terrified of surrendering their identity and likeness to corporate AI models.
05:00But as commentators in the industry are pointing out, jumping ship isn't as simple as moving to
05:05YouTube or Kik overnight. Especially when Kik still carries that dark web reputation.
05:10Which brings us back to our theory on Kik's master plan. To capitalize on Twitch's mistake and pull
05:15over top creators, Kik can't just be an unregulated gambling platform anymore. They need brand-safe,
05:20mainstream-friendly viral hooks. Which is where Drake's dating life comes in. By taking their biggest
05:25mainstream asset and turning a raw 20v1 stream into a feel-good viral news story,
05:31Kik gets to prove to Fortune 500 advertisers that its platform can generate clean, brand-safe
05:37Gen Z headlines. Because at the end of the day, Kik knows it can't just fix its image by running
05:42corporate PR campaigns or banning its core shock jock creators overnight. That would destroy the wild,
05:48unfiltered identity that brought millions of viewers to the platform in the first place.
05:52Instead, they may be using Drake to execute a top-down brand halo strategy. One that allows
05:58Kik to host flagship events featuring mainstream icons like Drake. Where Kik can build clean,
06:03ultra-viral content blocks that Fortune 500 advertisers can comfortably run pre-roll ads on.
06:09Which can help reframe creator opportunities. Because when a creator like Pink Chew goes from
06:13a niche cosplayer to getting her mom a house paid for by Drake, Kik sends a signal to mainstream
06:18creators everywhere. One that says this platform offers exclusive, life-changing clout and corporate
06:25sponsorship opportunities that other platforms can't match. It also paves the way for tiered ad
06:30placements. Because in the future, we see major brands like Nike or Samsung safely running ads on
06:35vetted, wholesome streams, leaving the wilder, unmoderated content for lower-tiered sponsorships
06:41or completely ad-free. Because do we really believe Drake would just bark on command for
06:46any woman? So do you think Kik can pull off this mainstream ad rebrand? Or will its dark web
06:52reputation hold itself back?
07:11Kik will then go on. And take a example, I'll just wait for this in the future. But if we're
07:16moving on to the
07:17future, it'll be okay with me.
07:17Kik will be aware of the best, guys, and you can see a couple of the great intentions of
07:17saying that he might not be invited to the future. But I will do everything really well.
07:17So I will have to take care of him. So that's why he's being taken away from Radio Kik can
07:18as well. And you can see his own friends, too. So he'll have to take care of him.
07:18And he's been able to take care of his own friends. So you can see him in the future where
07:19he's been
07:19familiar with his own friends and like his friends and family. So I will be able to get a Tuver,
07:21have to talk to that, and then you can see him in between the future.
