Roger Goodell recently announced that the NFL will “No Doubt” expand to Europe and have a few teams over there. Do you think it’s a good idea for the NFL to add more teams, or will it dilute the already perfect product?

00:00So Roger Goodell says sometime soon the NFL is going to have a team
00:05playing outside of this country.
00:08I mean, is anybody surprised by it?
00:10We've seen the international expansion just going crazy.
00:13It's probably going to be Jacksonville.
00:15Jacksonville's probably going to move to London.
00:17Or is he talking about expanding, expansion?
00:20I think it's talking about expanding overseas,
00:23not just moving a team overseas,
00:25but potentially having multiple teams overseas in different markets.
00:30Jacksonville's building a new stadium.
00:33In Jacksonville.
00:34Yeah, they're not moving.
00:35Oh, okay.
00:37But they do love to go over to London.
00:40They do love to play overseas.
00:41They try to expand their brand and market into England.
00:45I don't think it's imminent.
00:47I think we're a ways away.
00:48At some point, there will be NFL teams outside the USA.
00:51I have no doubt this will happen one day.
00:56Goodell told Marcus Kuhn in an interview.
01:00He said teams, multiple teams, plural.
01:03So what if it's a division?
01:06Could be.
01:07What if they have an international division?
01:08I mean, it could be.
01:09That wouldn't surprise me at all.
01:10I don't know how the logistics of that are going to work.
01:13I don't either.
01:14But that wouldn't shock me one bit.
01:16Do you think there's enough support internationally?
01:20I know they play these games, and often there'll be good crowds at these games, but they're one-offs, really.
01:27It's not like a team has eight or nine home games in pick whatever city that they've been at.
01:36In London or Paris or Munich.
01:39Right.
01:39I think so.
01:40But I think that's their long-term goal, is for it to become popular enough overseas to sustain a team
01:48in cities like that.
01:49I think so.
01:50The NFL's big enough.
01:51As long as you're having the stars.
01:54If you create your own league, like a world league, but you call it the NFL, and it's a new
02:00division, but it's different.
02:02It can't be that.
02:03No, no.
02:03It has to be part of the whole thing.
02:05You're playing the Cowboys, and you're playing the Steelers, and you're playing the Packers.
02:09I think, yeah.
02:10I think it could.
02:11People go, though, like when the Commanders are in London, people are going there for a trip.
02:16Yeah.
02:16I don't know how many people in London care about the NFL product.
02:20Yeah, but I don't think that game is filled with American fans.
02:25I think that's a minority.
02:26I don't know the price down.
02:27You're saying week to week.
02:29Yeah, so what I'm saying is, if you had nine games, home games, or eight home games in Munich,
02:37I'm speculating that it's going to be pretty empty.
02:41I don't think people in Munich, and I've never been there.
02:44Well, maybe they would never see it.
02:45This is based on my limited time.
02:46Maybe it would be London, Madrid, Paris.
02:49I don't think they care.
02:50I'm sure they're doing the research.
02:52Maybe they don't in Munich, but I'm guessing in some of the other spots.
02:57Now, maybe Mexico City would fly.
03:00I've seen that as a possible place, but I don't know that they really care in Mexico.
03:04Well, I think that's part of the deal, right?
03:06They're just trying to grow it.
03:08But I think eventually, I think they'd be able to support it.
03:11I'd be surprised if they weren't.
03:131-800-636-1067 if you want to chime in.
03:16Domestically, do they just flat out don't support the team?
03:20Where the attendance is poor?
03:22Yeah.
03:23For a US-based team?
03:24Flat out, year in and year out, they don't support the team.
03:26I don't know that there's really...
03:28You'd have to look up the attendance records.
03:29Maybe Jacksonville, as he's brought up, but that might change with the new stadium.
03:34I'll tell you what, it would suck for the players to have to go over there.
03:38Yeah, it's a lot more.
03:40There's a lot more to it.
03:41The travel would be ridiculous.
03:43Why do we have to keep growing?
03:46Money.
03:47Well, I mean, that's what every business wants to keep doing, is keep growing and expanding.
03:51It's already making money hand over fist.
03:53I know.
03:53They want to make more.
03:55The owners want their values to go up even more.
03:58They're taking advantage of our addiction to football.
04:01That could be part of it, but there's not one business on the planet where if you met with all
04:05their top brass,
04:06where they're going to say, we don't need to grow anymore.
04:09We're good.
04:10And the NFL is no different.
04:11Yeah, but it could be a danger zone where you dilute the product and less people get into it.
04:17Often bring up Chicken Out.
04:19Chicken Out was one of my favorite places to go.
04:21They expanded that menu so much.
04:23You're comparing Chicken Out to the NFL.
04:24Well, if you expand your menu...
04:26Yes, I am.
04:28Expand your menu so much, you get away from the strength.
04:32You're comparing a regional restaurant to an organization that now routinely has teams valued at north of $9 billion.
04:44Yes, I am, Cakes.
04:45All right.
04:46It's the principle.
04:47It's a little bit of a stretch, but okay.
04:48It's the principle of getting away from your strength.
04:52I mean, the Premier League would never put a team in the U.S.
04:57I don't know that.
04:59Maybe you think that eventually they wouldn't want to expand into the United States?
05:04An affluent, fertile market?
05:06I don't know.
05:06That's rabid about their product?
05:08They're already doing nine international games.
05:11Mm-hmm.
05:12I don't think it's anything imminent.
05:15I think it's...
05:15But it's nine international games spread across how many countries?
05:19Well, Australia's getting one.
05:20I think you'll be in hospice by about the time this happens.
05:24Well, unless you're in hospice really early, I think...
05:27There are probably nine countries.
05:28Probably nine different countries.
05:30At least one team playing overseas within a decade.
05:34And hopefully...
05:34I'll take the bet.
05:35I'm not in hospice within a decade.
05:37I'll take the bet.
05:38Put it in.
05:39Take another 10-year bet.
05:40Put it in.
05:40What is it?
05:42Shakes thinks it'll be a British Columbia, whatever, Bulldogs within 10 years.
05:49There'll be an international team up and running.
05:51You mean...
05:51I'm just saying anything.
05:53Just any place.
05:54It wouldn't be...
05:54That wouldn't be international.
05:55That would be a Canadian team.
05:56It wouldn't be Canada.
05:57That would count overseas.
05:58It wouldn't be overseas.
06:00I mean, anywhere.
06:01Canada counts.
06:01It would probably start in London, I'm guessing.
06:05I'm guessing.
06:06That'd be the...
06:07International team.
06:08Just for the travel.
06:08Boots on the ground.
06:10Within a decade.
06:11$20 bet.
06:12Sure.
06:13Let's go.
06:14I'm making a lot of bets today.
06:15Yeah.
06:16I'm maybe overextending myself.
06:18I don't think we're close at all.
06:19I think we're pretty close.
06:21I mean, it's not imminent, but I think it's within a decade.
06:24Whenever they announce it, there's going to be another five years.
06:28I like my chances.
06:30I like my chances.
06:31Yeah.
06:32All right.
06:33Let's go real quick.
06:34But Goodell says, I have no doubt, so I would probably believe him.
06:37One day.
06:38Yeah, yeah.
06:38The key quote is one day.
06:40Yeah, he didn't say 2030.
06:41That's a long ways away.
06:43One day, eight years from now.
06:44All right, let's go to...
06:45You missed that little part of the quote.
06:47Let's go to Anna in Sterling.
06:50Hey, Anna, you're all with the Junkies.
06:51How are you?
06:52I'm fantastic, guys.
06:53Thank you so very much.
06:54I wanted to let you know that I thought your show yesterday from training camp was one of
06:59the absolute best shows I've heard in a long, long time.
07:02I just wanted to let you know.
07:04Look at this.
07:04It was so lighthearted.
07:05I was really hoping when Bish said he was going to do the 15-minute commute again today
07:09that you all were going to be there again today.
07:11But I just wanted to let you know.
07:13What did you like about it so much?
07:15She said it was lighthearted.
07:16I mean, the interviews that you all did, you all seemed so relaxed and having so much
07:22more fun than...
07:23I mean, I'm sure you all have been having lots of fun for years.
07:26But yesterday, it was like...
07:28It sounded like little kids just living their best lives.
07:31Really?
07:32All right.
07:33I mean, it was awesome.
07:34I just wanted to let you know.
07:35Awesome.
07:36Awesome.
07:37I haven't been listening for 30 years, but you're the group that got me through the pandemic.
07:43That is when we started listening to you.
07:45Well, thank you.
07:45We appreciate that.
07:46Thank you, Anna.
07:47I really appreciate that.
07:48Just keep up the great work, guys, and thank you so very much.
07:51You don't know how many people's lives you all have changed.
07:54Oh, look at these sweet ones.
07:55Wow, she's starting to get emotional.
07:57I mean, I'm just letting you know.
07:59I mean, you are the group that got me through and my family through the pandemic.
08:02She's going to make us cry.
08:03She might make us cry.
08:04No, but she seems like she's a little bit choked up.
08:07Anyways, keep up the great work, guys.
08:09Thank you so much.
08:10All right.
08:10The voice is trembling.
08:12See that impact that we have on people?
08:14This is amazing.
08:15Let's go back to Commander's Camp tomorrow.
08:17No.
08:18I'm good.
08:18No, you're good.
08:19I'm good.
08:20We're going to talk to my man, Frankie Louvoo.
08:22Yeah, Jason wanted to stick around for an hour and go talk to you.
08:25You can do that, buddy.
08:27So, for some reason, when we're talking about attendance, I can only see total attendance data.
08:32I'm on pro football reference.
08:36Yeah.
08:37And who was the worst?
08:39Well, AT&T Stadium, the Cowboys, had the most total attendance for the season at 1.36 million.
08:46Mm-hmm.
08:48The Titans only had 1.068 million.
08:51That still sounds pretty good to me, bud.
08:53You know, they would have, game by game, like they ended the year with 66,000.
08:58They had one game with 54,000, 58,000.
09:03And that's one of your bottom tier teams.
09:05They're still packing 50 plus thousand in a down year.
09:09Yeah.
09:11Yeah.
09:12I mean, they all kill it.
09:15I mean, they all kill it.
09:16I think that they would be able to...
09:17I don't think that's the issue, per se.
09:21The issue is, how are you going to fundamentally change the structure of the league if you have, like, four
09:26or six teams over there?
09:28How is that all going to work, logistically?
09:30I don't know.
09:31That's for them to figure out.
09:33Well, I mean, they would just be a ton of travel.
09:35I mean, tons of travel.
09:36A ton of travel.
09:37Yeah.
09:37And Kyle Shanahan would be pissed.
09:39Yeah.
09:40I'm sure he's happy he's traveling to Australia.
09:42He's not.
09:44With his head full of cobwebs from his concussion.
09:48He's back in the mix, though, right?
09:50He's back doing his dance grind.
09:52Yeah.
09:53Yeah.
09:54That guy looks a lot older than he used to.
09:58I mean, everybody does, but all of a sudden, when I looked at him this year...
10:02Well, trust me, trying to avoid those.
10:05When I saw Kyle Shanahan recently, I was like, whoa.
10:09Well, he's working 20-hour days.
10:11Yeah.
10:12I mean, that's going to take its toll on you.
10:14I mean, coaching profession will kill you.
10:15Brutal.
10:16I mean, yeah.
10:17Coaches.
10:17There's no way coaches...
10:20Like, guys that are lifetime coaches live as long as, like, I don't know.
10:24Morning DJs?
10:25No, those guys die, too.
10:27I don't know.
10:28Like, teachers.
10:29I would venture to say, teach a stressful job, too.
10:32It is stressful.
10:32Give me a job that's not super stressful.
10:34I don't know.
10:35It's like average stress.
10:36Because every job, everything has stress.
10:38What's, like, a moderately stressful job?
10:42Sure, I know.
10:43How am I going to know that?
10:44A moderately stressful job?
10:46A moderately stressful job.
10:46I can't relate to real jobs at this point.
10:48I asked somebody last night what they did for a living.
10:50Can't even remember what he said.
10:52It was something about recruitment, international.
10:55I don't know what you said.
10:55Over my head.
10:55And maybe it was human resources.
10:57Yeah.
10:58Yeah.
10:58Okay.
10:59Human resources job.
11:00Moderately stressful.
11:02I don't know.
11:02Sean McVay looks as sexy as ever.
11:05Marv Levy's, like, 110.
11:07Marv Levy's an exception.
11:09Marv Levy is, is he, like, 98?
11:10Is he over 100?
11:11He's, like, right around 100.
11:13He's 98.
11:14Right around 100.
11:15I think he's 100.
11:15Is he really?
11:16Hold on.
11:16He's right around it.
11:17Marv Levy is.
11:18He was born.
11:20Let's see.
11:21And he looks pretty.
11:22He's 101.
11:23He looks pretty good, too.
11:25Wow.
11:25It's amazing.
11:26He was born in 1925.
11:30He's called an outlier.
11:31He was born before the Great Depression.
11:33I think that Kyle Shanahan, I don't know how old he is.
11:36He's probably mid-40s.
11:38I would guess, yeah.
11:39I think it's just the gray, because he's got more gray in the face.
11:42Yes.
11:43That's what makes him look a little bit older.
11:46If he's shaved, he'd be looking fine.
11:47Mike Shanahan looks old.
11:49I haven't seen him lately.
11:50He looks old.
11:50Does he look bad?
11:51Is he 70?
11:52He's got to be.
11:5373?
11:56He's born in 52, whatever that is.
11:5873.
11:58Kyle Shanahan now 46.
12:01All right, so you think he looks, what, 56?
12:04He just looked weathered the last time I saw him.
12:07Well, he went through a bad accident.
12:09Yep.
12:10Coming up next, you'll hear from Terry McLaurin, one of the stars of your Washington Commanders,
12:15here on The Junkies.
12:16All right.
12:16Thanks, guys.
12:16All right.
