00:00NASA's James Webb Space Telescope has spotted something extraordinary near our galaxy's black hole.
00:05The star, known as IRS-3, is shedding huge amounts of material into space.
00:11It sits just 0.6 light-years from Sagittarius Aydind, the Milky Way's supermassive black hole.
00:17That's roughly 42,000 times the distance between Earth and the Sun.
00:22Researchers say IRS-3 is going through an extreme phase called a superwind.
00:27The star is losing material equal to Earth's mass about every 18 days.
00:32That material has created an enormous envelope around the aging star.
00:37The envelope stretches about 10,000 astronomical units from IRS-3.
00:42But Webb made another surprising discovery.
00:45Water molecules are present inside it.
00:47Scientists once thought the harsh environment near the black hole could destroy such molecules.
00:53The finding suggests molecular material can survive much closer to Sagittarius A than expected.
00:59Astronomers now plan deeper observations to uncover how this remarkable star is evolving.
01:04Disclosure.
