00:00I'm currently at AMC Lincoln Square, and I was coming here to get my Dune Part 3 tickets in IMAX
00:0670mm,
00:07but clearly, I'm not the only person that had this idea.
00:10I thought going in person would make the most sense, because last time I tried this, the app crashed, the
00:16website crashed,
00:16but clearly, it doesn't really make a difference.
00:19With the Odyssey and Spider-Man, AMC, Regal, and Fandango's apps and websites all crashed.
00:25There were virtual queues, and many people got really frustrated and didn't even walk away with a ticket at all.
00:30I'm on the app right now, and you can see there's an error, and there's plenty of people behind me.
00:35The reason we're seeing all this is because supply cannot match all of demand.
00:39There are only 41 theaters worldwide that can show IMAX 70mm and 25 in the U.S.
00:46When an iconic director like Christopher Nolan, someone who's made both superhero movies and a Best Picture winner,
00:52announces that his next movie needs to be seen in a specific format, people are going to rush.
00:56Demand is so high that the CEO of IMAX himself said that people are flying across the world to see
01:02these movies in 70mm IMAX.
01:05And look, I totally understand why Christopher Nolan would film in IMAX and want people to see it in the
01:11intended format,
01:12but IMAX and Nolan have stoked demand to such ridiculous levels.
01:17These premium formats cost almost twice as much as a regular ticket,
01:22and theater apps and websites crash under the traffic the moment the tickets go live.
01:27And now Dune Part 3 in IMAX 70mm is virtually impossible to get tickets for.
01:32I'm pretty fed up with going through all these hoops for a night out to watch a movie or to
01:38go to a concert.
01:40What I really want is more simpler in-person experiences, and there's clearly demand for it.
01:46We're seeing these intimate in-person experiences pop up everywhere.
01:50The internet was supposed to make all of this a lot easier and a lot faster.
01:54But what it's actually done is create too much demand, and there's not enough supply to match it.
