Super Mario 64 is a 3D platformer in which Mario explores the worlds inside Princess Peach's castle to collect Power Stars and rescue her from Bowser. The game features large, open-ended levels filled with enemies, obstacles, secrets, and different objectives, giving players considerable freedom in how they approach each course. Mario has a wide range of moves, including long jumps, backflips, wall jumps, swimming, climbing, and ground attacks, all controlled using the Nintendo 64's analog stick. Special caps found throughout the game also give Mario temporary abilities, such as flying, becoming invisible, or turning into metal. Super Mario 64 was one of the launch titles for the Nintendo 64 in North America and was the first Super Mario game to use fully 3D gameplay.
