Huaguoyuan in Guiyang, located in Nanming District of Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, China, is known as "Asia's largest community" and "China's densest residential complex." It spans over 18 million square meters in planned construction area, with total investment reaching hundreds of billions, currently housing 400,000 to 500,000 residents, and foot traffic peaking at over 1 million daily.
The entire Huaguoyuan stretches from District A to Z, comprising over 200 high-rises mostly exceeding 40 stories, resembling a vast concrete forest from afar—often called a "vertical city." Within the complex are shopping malls, office buildings, hotels, parks, schools, hospitals, metro stations, and street-side shops, allowing residents to eat, shop, work, and seek medical care almost entirely within the cluster.
Huaguoyuan originated from Guiyang's largest shantytown redevelopment project, relocating tens of thousands of households to create this controversial yet iconic "urban wonder." High density brings convenience but also crowding, noise, and oppression—many residents jokingly call it "Asia's largest pigeon cage."
