Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo attended the PJ Startup Festival on Saturday (Aug 15) to show his support for the country’s startup community, saying the event reflected growing attention towards startups and efforts to strengthen Malaysia’s startup ecosystem.

He said the annual festival features about 100 booths this year and is expected to draw around 2,000 participants, including members of the public.

00:00We have an event where we bring all the start-ups to show what the product-to-back they are.
00:12We have this event for each year.
00:17We have more than 100 booths.
00:24We have more than 2,000 people from today.
00:32This shows the attention to the start-ups in the way we can build the ecosystem.
00:44I came to give my support.
00:46I often say that in our country, there are many people who have certain ideas.
00:55But the question is how they can help to promote their ideas.
01:05So, we have an event where everyone can be together.
01:11We can see that there are many collaborations.
01:18They can support one or two.
01:21And from there, they can also look at the model-model-model.
01:48So, this is one example of it.
01:52Other than that, we also see that there are many who come here to see what the values are.
01:57And in the way, they can do the research in the market or the idea that we have here.
02:06So, it's also a venue by which people come to look at investing in companies like this and to support
02:14these start-ups.
02:16So, I, as a minister of digital, I gave my support and that's why I'm here.
