Toyota Camry is in its fifth generation. This segment bestseller in markets like the US is gradually phased out from Western Europe. The 2025 Toyota Camry XV80 is still available in Central and Eastern Europe, where it is appreciated due to its reliability and economical hybrid powertrain. I check how the improved hybrid technology affects performance and real-world fuel economy, and if the refreshed design and modern cockpit can hold its own on the few European markets where it is offered, despite a lack of direct competition!

In this video, you will find out:

What new features does the fifth generation of the Toyota Camry offer compared to its predecessor?

How does the improved hybrid system affect driving dynamics and comfort?

Is the Camry still the leader in reliability and fuel efficiency?

How do the new digital cockpit and infotainment system perform in practice?

Is the new design fresh enough to attract customers in the E-segment, where the Camry stands as one of the few available options?

The Toyota Camry has long been synonymous with the sensible choice. The new model combines the best of Japanese engineering—durability and low running costs—with modern styling and

00:00this is the new toyota camry which looks almost identical to the previous generation model
00:06but it's got a new model code xv80 so it must be new then while the outside changes are few
00:13and
00:13subtle there's a lot going on inside and also some of the differences are invisible to the eye
00:20now i don't want to boast but i feel as if toyota has watched my 2019 camry review
00:25and then changed everything i said that needed changing well almost everything so let's see what's new
01:10the exterior changes are indeed modest the car has grown three and a half centimeters in length
01:15to 492 centimeters but this is due to extended overhangs as the wheelbase remained unchanged at
01:23282 and a half centimeters the width is also the same at 184 centimeters but the truck has grown
01:30from just under 160 centimeters to just over 160 centimeters height remains unchanged at 144 and a
01:39half centimeters but the roofline slopes down a bit earlier towards the rear there are also new
01:46headlights and tail lamps along with resulting minor cosmetic changes
02:11the most significant change is the introduction of the fifth generation hybrid powertrain which is even
02:17more efficient than in the model i reviewed in 2019 back then fuel consumption was around five and a
02:24half liters per 100 kilometers oh somebody took a corner wide anyway it was five and a half
02:31wltp and 4.8 nedc currently it's 4.8 liters per 100 kilometers wltp and that's achievable without much
02:39effort the camera now delivers power effortlessly the car has more grunt though i can't say it's mid-range
02:48because it's an ecvt anyway it's brisk before you hear the annoying engine whine i assume this is due
02:57to the increased power and efficiency of the electric motor and the traction battery at the same time the
03:03power of the entire system has increased by 12 horsepower to 230. the only thing that doesn't check out is
03:15the
03:15acceleration time toyota claims the camera will do 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 7.2 seconds i got
03:217.7
03:22regardless of whether the gearbox and the power train were in sport or normal mode
03:33around the city when the car is running more on electricity the camera is actually quite quiet
03:42it's becoming noisy under heavy acceleration and when you drive on the expressway but it's better than
03:48other smaller toyota models where soundproofing has been sacrificed to minimize emissions the suspension
03:57has been improved compared to the previous generation where it seemed to be focused solely on comfort
04:02here i feel it's a bit firmer and it works better with the improved steering something must have changed
04:09with the suspension geometry because now i feel like the steering and the front wheels
04:15are actually connected in the previous generation this connection was um exceptionally loose
04:30driver assist systems have also been improved both compared to the older camry and other toyota models
04:36from two three years ago finally they assist rather than annoy they no longer intervene at the last moment
04:43when it's too late as was the case in various toyota models for many years all is good now even
04:50the driver
04:50attention monitor goes off very rarely a couple of years ago all i had to do was check my blind
04:56spot and
04:57the thing would bing and bong speaking of blind spots visibility is decent and if there are particularly tall
05:04passengers or the rear sunshade is up you can always use the virtual mirror
05:19briefly about changes in the cockpit the analog gauges with a display between them have been replaced
05:26with a large driver display that can imitate analog dials
05:31the interface isn't great but it's not a criticism of the camry but toyota in general
05:36on the other hand it's a massive improvement on what we've got in the previous camera
05:42furthermore we have a new infotainment system with graphics which no longer resemble
05:48an early 90s computer game it's still not a market leading solution but at least android auto
05:54and apple carplay are now available so apart from disabling isa which you do with a little click up
06:01here there is really no need for you to use the oem infotainment because toyota has kept a lot of
06:09physical buttons both on the steering wheel and below the central display all the climate control settings
06:15seat heating steering wheel heating they're all controlled with buttons as they should be
06:22and there are new buttons on the doors previous generation didn't have seat memory function
06:28and this one does also toyota added automatic folding mirrors again an improvement over the previous
06:34generation model the seats well i remember complaining about the short cushions and therefore
06:41insufficient thigh support unfortunately i don't have the dimensions of the previous generation seats
06:47but these are fine the door pockets and wireless charger have also been improved there are also
06:56three usb-c ports and good cup holders the storage compartment under the armrest is large as is the glove
07:03box
07:04no changes in the rear once again i got a test car in top trim with this fancy
07:12rear seats arrangement where you have a control panel in the armrest and you can control the
07:20backrest tilt you can control the ac the radio and even the rear shade
07:30we still have manual blinds on the rear side windows
07:34the usba ports under the air conditioning vents have been replaced by usb-c ports
07:40there is still a large tunnel running through the center and the rear passenger still can't
07:44move the front passenger seat forward to create more legroom
07:48but i still have plenty of legroom and headroom at least behind the driver's seat set to my driving
07:53position i'm 175 centimeters tall
07:57in this generation toyota doesn't provide official cargo space figures since the current camera is
08:02practically identical in dimensions to the previous generation i assume 524 liters for the version with
08:08folding rear seats and 500 liters for the version with power adjustable second row backrests remain
08:14valid however according to my measurements the cargo capacity could be as much as 600 liters i remember
08:21toyota also significantly underestimating the cargo capacity in the lexus es i should add that this
08:29figure doesn't include the underfloor storage compartment which houses a full-size spare tire also
08:37they could have done a better job finishing the floor it's almost as if the boot wasn't an important
08:43factor in this model
08:46if you're watching this in western europe you're probably wondering why isn't the camera available
08:51in your market non-premium sedans seem to be a hard sell these days unless you're a slav with a
08:58big
08:58mustache in which case you think this car is way overpriced since it's offered in poland and southeast
09:04down to about bulgaria i'll give you the conversion to euro from polish zloty today the camera starts at around
09:1141 000 euro in poland this test example costs about 50 000 euro so you tell me if it's worth
09:19it and what
09:20would you choose instead
09:25toyota cambra may look the same but it has undergone many tweaks which make it a much better car and
09:32most
09:33of its competition is gone now so if you are looking for a large non-premium sedan preferably non-electric
09:42at least in europe you don't have much of a choice and how do you like the new-ish toyota
09:47cambra
09:48perhaps you own one of the previous generations or maybe you own this one how is it to live with
09:53let me know in the comment section below
