00:00There are two significant risks that we do need to make sure the public have at the front of their
00:06minds. The first is the risk to health, particularly of older and vulnerable people. We would ask
00:12people to check out the advice on the NHS app, particularly about the importance of staying
00:18hydrated, and the advice would be to check in on elderly friends and relatives who may need
00:25support at this particular moment in time. The big risk in terms of risk to the wider
00:34regions across the country is the risk of wildfires, and what we are seeing is multiple
00:41serious incidents across the country. Fire services, by and large, are supporting each
00:48other through mutual aid to deal with those incidents, but we are keeping a very close
00:53watching brief on them. But there is advice to the public here not to use disposable barbecues.
01:03We have today confirmed through the National Fire Chiefs Council that the framework restricting
01:11the retail sale of those disposable barbecues is being extended. And now I would ask all retailers,
01:21big and small, to adhere to that framework. Longer term, we will look at whether a temporary ban in the
01:28summer months
01:29is justified, but for now we are calling on all retailers to observe that ban particularly.
01:36So you would say to people at home, don't go out and use barbecues at all, and to retailers that
01:42you should
01:42basically not have them on sale anymore. And what will happen if retailers are still selling them?
01:47We would say to retailers, do not put disposable barbecues on sale at this
01:52at this moment in time. They have been the cause of significant fires, and there is one thing that can
02:00be done that everybody should be doing. People shouldn't be using them out in the open
02:06where there is a significant risk of fire, but also we would ask retailers not to sell them to.
