00:08Precognition is a sci-fi horror project coming to you from the minds of Sam Barlow and Brandon
00:15Cronenberg. You play as a character called Diana. She has had an implant put in her brain and a
00:22marvelous side effect of this implant is she's now receiving visions of her own future. Making a game
00:29like Precognition has been a natural evolution of what we did on Immortality but we've really been
00:37trying to test the limits of nonlinear storytelling. We have a real focus on the game feel and player
00:47agency and freedom so in Immortality we have this magical match cut feature so it allows you to
00:55almost put together your own film and create this narrative where you jump from point to point
01:01you're jumping around time and space finding these connections. The same magic that powers this lens can
01:07also grant you what you wish. If you sit someone down to play one of our games within the first
01:13few
01:13minutes five minutes ten minutes everyone is off in a different direction and with Precognition we
01:19want to kind of take that to the next level. From the very beginning you are seeing through Diana's eyes
01:25and then once the experiment begins and Diana starts receiving these visions which for her she
01:33essentially organizes as memories right these are memories of the future she hasn't yet lived.
01:41She is able to experience this vision and then focus and concentrate on a moment and commit that to
01:48memory. And immediately on doing that the future changes.
01:55If you're not familiar with our previous games Immortality, Sam's game Her Story, Telling Lies,
02:02this might look very different from what you expect of a video game. You might have a notebook
02:07on your desk as you're playing. You might be furiously trying to cross-examine clips and understand
02:13what am I really seeing and what am I missing. That really is the experience of playing something
02:19like Precognition.
02:24My name is Brandon Cronenberg. I'm a primarily horror film director. I've made three feature films,
02:31Antiviral, Possessor and Infinity Pool. And I'm the filmmaker outsider who was brought in kind of for fun to
02:37collaborate on the writing. So I was involved with Sam and his team on the story and I wrote some
02:43of the scenes.
02:43With us wanting to kind of plant a flag in this being like a really pure sci-fi horror, we
02:49were like
02:49who out there would be a good collaborator for this? And so we kind of did this process of speed
02:55dating
02:56horror directors. And I think Brandon was the one who, straight out the gate, we sparked with. He'd already
03:01played her story in immortality. So he kind of understood the games. Horror films I have made up
03:09to this point tend to be very subjective. You know, they're very experiential where you're really rooted
03:14in one character's perspective. And that's part of the experience of the horror. The world is warping
03:22and it's warping dependent on their psychology. And so it kind of slotted neatly into this game because
03:29again, it's a very subjective experience. We've proven that there is an appetite for these things
03:35that are a bit more complex, a bit darker, a bit stranger. But also the idea of it's always about
03:42the freedom that you as a player have to explore the story, to feel like you're making the story
03:48happen in a way that's unique to you. Have that be the mission statement. To keep up to date with
03:52precognition, follow us on bluesky at halfmermaid.co or even better, wishlist the game on steam today.
