00:00Final Fantasy VII Revelation only gives each character four jobs, and the director says
00:05that's because making games has gotten so much harder.
00:08When Square Enix unveiled Revelation's new FITS job system, some fans immediately wondered
00:14why each character is limited to just four jobs instead of dozens.
00:18According to director Naoki Hamaguchi, it's a reality of modern game development.
00:23He explained that,
00:24It did make me realize all over again how hard it is to develop games these days.
00:29When you look at some of the early Final Fantasy games that have job systems, you could put
00:33a lot in there.
00:34Take Final Fantasy V, one of the series' classic pixel art games that let you mix and match
00:39each party member with over 20 jobs.
00:42Games have only gotten way more graphically intensive over time, and every playable character
00:46in Revelation's cast has their own bespoke animations.
00:50A far cry from the days where the pixels that represented an FF5 character all awkwardly
00:55shimmying forward to attack.
00:56These days, wanting to have 20 or 30 jobs isn't really feasible for a standalone game,
01:01Hamaguchi continues.
01:03In fact, it's just insanely difficult, unless you're an ongoing title that's adding content
01:07bit by bit.
01:08As is the case with Final Fantasy XIV.
01:11Will you be playing Final Fantasy VII Revelation?
