00:00Hi there, my name is Susannah Hardy and I am a journalist at The Senior and I am not an
00:04EV driver.
00:05I've never had one, I don't have much experience with EVs, I've never been an EV passenger.
00:10But just recently, I got the opportunity to test drive the new Toyota BZ4X Touring.
00:16And since EV sales have absolutely skyrocketed in the last couple of months, I was pretty keen to see what
00:21all the fuss was about.
00:22I mean, was this a car that was going to fit into my life?
00:24I mean, literally, some of them are quite big and boxy and I live near the city where there's not
00:28much parking.
00:30And well, how would I charge it? Would I get range anxiety?
00:34Now, I had a few questions.
00:35Thanks to Toyota, I was travelling to Burradu in the southern highlands in New South Wales to have lunch at
00:41Three Blue Ducks, a restaurant renowned for its paddock-to-plate approach.
00:44It was about 100 kilometres away.
00:46Now, the Toyota BZ4X Touring has a range of 400 kilometres, so I knew we were going to get there
00:52and back pretty safely.
00:53Once I got in the car, it was immediately so quiet and smooth, especially navigating the city traffic.
00:59And very comfy, very spacious, lots of room above head, leg room and a fabulous fixed panoramic roof that you
01:07could see the sky.
01:08So it gave a really lovely open feel.
01:11And with the dual zone climate control, very comfortable temperature, especially as we approach the cooler weather in the southern
01:17highlands.
01:18Once we got out of the city, I got to have a go and it was super easy to drive
01:23and very powerful.
01:24I was straight to the speed limit of 110 kilometres in no time at all, without even noticing it.
01:30Even though it is very spacious and a really great boot size, very good for families.
01:35From the outside, it's actually quite compact.
01:38I was surprised.
01:38I feel like it would be good for day-to-day driving as well as long-distance travelling.
01:44So after my test drive, I feel like this is a car that would work for me.
01:48And the thought of paying less for power and cutting down on petrol costs is really attractive.
01:55But even though it has a good range, you do have to charge your EV.
01:58And I don't have off-street parking.
02:00I barely get to park out the front of my house.
02:02And we don't have that many charging stations in our local area.
02:06So it would be a challenge.
02:08But I feel like there are so many EVs on the road now.
02:11Surely this has got to change.
02:13So hopefully, by the time I'm ready to upgrade to a new car, I will be able to consider going
02:18electric.
